DIY Microlocs Installation Process | Two-strand twists | Freestyled part sizes
Переглядів 7 тис.Рік тому
In this video, I'll be showing you how I installed my DIY micro locs using two-strand twists. I did not use any measuring tools to make my loc sizes even, I just freestyled with the sizes. This entire process took me three days (could have taken less time honestly) and turned out great. Let me know if you have any questions below, thanks for watching! For tip 1, braid and band during wash day or outside of wash day too?
I only do it for wash day!
Update: I've gotten a lot of comments and now I know it's not normal for a loctician to not make sure the rest of your hair is good outside of reties! Y'all I've been bamboozled by these people and I want to fight 😭 since posting this video, I've experienced 2 more locticians and I'm ready to write a book called "Surviving loctician trauma" 😭
Good idea, write the book
How did you comb your locs out? I want to comb mine out for that same reason
I just took a tiny rat tail comb, conditioner, water, and combed it out for weeks. I'm loc'd back up though! ☺️
If my dry clean doesn’t include wash 🧐 we might have a problem.
😂😂 technically it's washed, just not with water
How long was you hair when you loc'd them?
I have no idea! You can see my length on this video, although this was my first set of locs and not the one I have now ---> ua-cam.com/video/jIH-ltbPXOc/v-deo.htmlsi=yJszNhGphVkTOJ4i
I just got mine done today
How exciting! 🥺
Literally same with me, my Loctician was doing reties ONLY . I didn’t have a healthy set of sister locks & didn’t even know until I moved states & went to get a consult before my next retie ….. I didn’t have time to comb mine out so I literally cut my locs off 🥴
I'm so sorry this happened to you. Was the person an official sisterlock consultant?
I’ve got all of the above. Not the frizz but uneven, holes, there’s too small, thinning in certain spots. I just want to do a new set.
Do you think combining them might help the size and thinning? Go have a professional look at your hair first!
Being upset about questions is so weird! You dodged a red flag
Like, that was crazy to me. I guess they assume that if I ask a lot of questions, I might be problem client.
@@astoldbymesosounds like they anticipate causing problems then lol.
It seems most Loctician feel they are doing their client a favour
Which is craaazy, like I'm literally paying you!
Please do we have to braid and band before bed or just on wash days?
Personally, I only braid and band before washing
At what stage should it start to braid and band please, I just started mine now for 4 days ago
You should probably start when you first install your locs but don't stress if you didn't!
Thank you so much for this video... I intend to lock my hair before the end of this year. This was so informative. Thank you ❤
Thank you for watching! ❤️
You had a bad loction...how can she not tell you she can see your hair. That is bad practice smh. She did not have to start your locs to give you advice.
I listened to you because I enjoy your grammar and how you express yourself … ok bye bye loctician 1, 2 on to the 3rd. 😊 wishing you well P on my 6 month mark - sisterlocks.. learnt a lot
Thank you so much! I'm not moving on to another loctician because I'm scared 😮💨 Congrats on 6 months!
The dry cleaning story is just dumb. She's just trying to justify what she's doing and that's wrong.
Now I know it was just a tactic to get more money out of me. I finally walked away from her 😔
My hands were in my hair when you started with number 5. Its not easy yooh😂
Ngl my hands are still in my hair A LOT! When I'm not busy, I put on my bonnet to keep myself from playing with it.
I have 4c hair, and started my locs with braids but they still unraveled.
I think some people are luckier than others 😩 I've only experienced unraveling at my edges, no where else
Looove this video, soooo informative. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching! ❤️
Thanks for sharing! I was wondering what was the difference between the two.
Thank you for this! I was doing it all wrong
Happy to help! There's no one way to do it, it's whatever work best for you
Thank you for your advice. I’m newly loc yeasterday . You should have seen how fast i got up to get my bonet and band my hair.
😂 the bonnet is essential!
Wise words❤
I started my journey on Aug 2nd ❤. I mostly do my own reties 🤗
That's amazing! Do you know how many you have?
Question: why didn’t you have a loctician start your locs?
Great question! Have you seen the cost of these things? I would have had to pay about $1500-1700 for my installation.
@@astoldbymeso woooowww I only paid $500 for mine. I get it now! 😂
Must be nice 😩
I pray you're able to continue your lock journey healthy And aware you're locks beautiful
Thank you so much! I pray so too ♥️
Check out learning about knotted locks.
I looked into it a while ago but the videos I saw (from whoever started the technique(were very vague and heavily filtered
Your Locs look lovely! You’ve done a great job!
Thank you!
Beautiful.
Thank you!
Shame on those locticians!
Hand in hair syndrome and lock jealousy, I'm a big big culprit 😭😭😭 4 months into my journey
You're not alone! 🙋🏾♀️
Don’t add conditioner or oil for the first 6mths when you start your locs you don’t want them to unravel
I agree! Unraveling wasn't a huge issue for me though because of my texture
Less than two months in and I’ve already made 5 of these mistakes 😫😤😱. This video has been really helpful as I now know where I’m going wrong. The loctician I used suggested the two strand twist method for me because I was not 💯 confident that I’ll like my hair in locks as I have feathery 4C hair with low density but high porosity, yeah crazy combo. She initially did gel twists not locked, and I was meant to wear it for 4-6weeks before finally locking, however they started to unravel very quickly and I went back to lock it less than two weeks after. Again this only lasted just under three weeks before some had started to unravel and some strands were breaking off at the tips (due to dryness, she told me not to wash or put any products so my hair was really dry, not sure if this was good advice) and some were thinning out unevenly along the strands. Now I’m going to a different loctician to see how my new locks can be salvaged without combing out and starting all over again 😫
I'm surprised that they were breaking off after actually locking it. Did you interlock the second time around? Or you just put in twists like the first time? The good thing is you're still just a few weeks in so if you hate it, you could comb it out without losing a lot of hair.
@@astoldbymeso Thanks for replying to my comment. Not sure why I’m just seeing it now even though you sent it a month ago. Yes she said she locked it the second time but honestly she did a shoddy job of it as my next loctician revealed. She did the locking properly making it my third attempt. It’s now been almost 6weeks since that third time and I’ll be going back for a retie next week. Can you please advise if I need to moisturise often because the dryness I’m experiencing is too much. I’m going to ask the new lady too but I’d like to know what you think. PS: I’ve always suffered with dry scalp even before getting locks so not moisturising frequently is taking its toll on my hair. Thanks 🙏🏾
Also not sure why I'm just seeing this. Honestly, I would say to go with what your loctician says since she's the one maintaining your hair. Personally, I started moisturizing from the start, but only with water. As time passed, I introduced very light leave-in conditioner like once a week. I don't have issues with really dry scalp so I've been fine. I really feel like loc rules are not a one-size-fits-all and you may just need to listen to what your own hair/scalp needs.
@@astoldbymeso Thanks 🤩
The only great loctician is myself, no loctician has ever satisfied me, they just retit shabily to quickly finish up n grab next client, and true that they don’t care about your hair when they didn’t start it, so needless paying them so much if I won’t even get a great job or a feedback.. I learned to retit by myself and save my money and all the drama at locticians…
Right?!! It's funny that since this video, I've gone to two other locticians and now back to doing my own reties
Yuh full a too much problems!
👍🏾
As a loctician I hear horror stories and it is true that many will just take the money and just give you your service. However that is solely on the stylist every service should be a conversation of the health and general maintenance of the hair.
I think that's why I've been so confused with the locticians I've gone to. It's a shame
I love your looks, they are beautiful. I didn't really catch what the issues were with you asking questions and getting dumped... but good luck on your lock journey.
Thank you! Neither did I! 😩 The main consultant said maybe I overwhelmed the trainee with my questions because she's an older lady who's very new to doing locs. Also, I apparently have way too many locs and that tired her out 🙃 I don't believe they were being transparent with me but I'm trying not to bash anyone
❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching! ♥️
Hey 😊 how many looks do you have
Hey! I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean styles for my locs?
@@astoldbymeso sorry I meant locs
No worries! I actually don't know how many I have 😅
Beautiful locs! My micro twist locs are 19months and there are still a lot of them that have the twist texture in it despite having super coily 4C hair. I actually found that in the beginning I was misting my hair way too often two to three times a week and once I reduced it to once a week and actually let my hair dry out like it needs to i saw much better results. I don't use any products in my hair besides distilled water with essential oils, per my loctitian and others advice. I would advise against steaming them with no braiding, bunching isn't just unsightly it can damage your roots and follicles during reties. I'm happy you're taking your maintenance into your own hands 😊 I wish I could
Thank you! When you say you "saw better results" do you mean that your hair seemed to be locking faster? Also, I wish I didn't have to maintain myself, I'm making this decision against my will lol
I hate that you had that experience with those locticians. Thank you for sharing and this video was so helpful. As a DIYer, I’ll keep this all in mind. ❤❤❤
It's okay! Thanks for watching!
I started my micro locs myself with braids do I need to braid and band my locs?
I think you should! Regardless of how you start your locs
I have braided microlocs and I think your locs would stay well intact afterwards.
@@astoldbymesoonly for washing your hair?
I think the “grid” is important to stylist because it’s aesthetically pleasing..they can post pics and that’s what gets the views… it’s good for business popping locs and finding their right place isn’t that hard with or without a grid the beginning stages frizz and look a hot mess … I’m glad you’re taking your hair into your own hands… I’m the same way. I’ve started locs with and without grids and sometimes not having a grid is best for the overall health of your loc.. different density’s throughout a head play a factor in something like that as well
I meant hot mess as in after a wash day there’s a lot going on with baby locs… not that the actual process was a hot mess.
I know what you mean! At this point, I'm good on the obsession with grids. So far, I just started doing my first retie, and I've been progressing just fine without a "straight" grid
Your locs are cute! What's the name of the song at the end of the video?
Thank you!! It's Ice and Fire by King Canyon. Enjoy listening!
Your locs are lovely!
Thank you!!
I had microlocs for about 2.5 years….i just combined my micros back to traditional locs. Backstory: I had traditional locs for about 15 years prior. My hair grew to about 17-18”. I had length and no volume. I felt that I wanted volume so I cut and got micros. I won’t go into the details but the short story is that the financial investment versus the changing behavior of the loctition was not worth it to me anymore. I gave it up I’m back to traditional locs. I’m loving my babies!!!! I feel better. I’m 4c then banded the bottom with a rubber band until the merge together maybe after my next wash. I thought about reattaching but I spoke with another loctition and she gave her reasons of why she didn’t really care to do it. I agreed. Your video is great! Advice I would give is like you mentioned…. Keep your hand out or your head!!!!!! I’m sooooooooo guilty!
Thanks for sharing your story! I agree, the financial investment vs navigating their behavior is exhausting! I'm about to drop a video tomorrow because I had some more issues with the loctitian.
Great job! I didn't have to keep rewinding to understand! Thank you!
I'm glad!
