    My Mom has 7 kids and has made bread forever. 50 years ago our neighbour asked Mom to teach her how to make bread because the neighbour's attempts - even though the neighbour read very much about bread making - kept failing. Mom never had any recipe, she did it by feel of the dough. The neighbour - from all of her learning - kept telling Mom that Mom was doing it all wrong. The neighbour never did learn much from Mom, but Mom kept on making good bread.

      @theworkfromhomesteader 2 дні тому

      It's definitely a harder way to learn initially, and I definitely encourage people to use recipes as first to get an idea of how to make it, but I think the best learning comes from veering off of or going without a recipe at all. I'm so glad your mom had a great way thag worked for her and that you were blessed with great bread growing up!

    Thank you! Once you take the dough out of the frig how long do you wait before baking it? Does it need to rise or come to room temp first?

    • @theworkfromhomesteader
      @theworkfromhomesteader 5 днів тому

      @StoneyCreekAcresHomestead great question! I usually take it out shortly before the oven is ready. It's usually no more than 30 minutes. Since we already proofed it, you don't want it to sit out more than an hour or so or you'll risk over proofing. 😊 it will really depend how warm you keep your home as well!

    • @raensaeck
      @raensaeck 3 дні тому

      You can chuck it straight in the oven from the fridge. I find it make scoring easier. Can even put it in the freezer for 30 minutes or so to make the scoring even easier

    It is simple. I want to support local bakers, but I don't want to spend money on something I can do very easily on my own. But a lot of people feel they cannot bake and sourdough may be intimidating for them. I figured those good people would love to be customers ☺️
