Home of the Mercury "Mafrauder", my cammed 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis, built for Auto Cross! Some appearances of my 2018 Ford F150, 1984 Ford Bronco II, and eventually (hopefully) my big block powered 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass too.
If you're here for railroad content, be sure to check out my "Railpac Videos"! We'll take a look, and often get inside access and cab rides at different interesting operations and short lines from across the country. There is a big emphasis on ALCO and MLW powered railroads.
I am a Locomotive Engineer for a major U.S. class one railroad, so the railroad rules my time, and although I try to post both automotive and railroad content on a regular basis, I'm not always able to do so. Thanks for your understanding there!

2004 Mercury Grand Marquis Performance Mods and Exhaust (2024). Auto Cross, NASCAR Boom Tubes.
By request, here is the full rundown on the "Mafrauder" at the end of the 2024 season.
I get a lot of questions about the different mods and upgrades done to the Merc, so here is the full video, I think I've covered everything, but as always, if there are any questions, ask away! In reality, it's not a super complicated, or trick build, but just a good combination that works well.

Fix a common problem on Ford EcoBoost engines, the dreaded acceleration hesitation and misfire. This can obviously result in poor performance, but if left unchecked could potentially cause damage. We'll go over the relatively simple fix for this, and the specifics. This issue seems most common on 3.5L F150's, but can arise on various other models with different EcoBoost displacements.

There are several great step-by-step instructional videos on UA-cam about replacing the Ford 4.6L 2v PI intake. But, I thought I'd share a few tips that made my intake replacement much smoother and easier. Plus the end result of gaining back at least 25hp by going back to a factory Ford PI intake (old style, not the new re-release).

Man! Now I'm All Revved Up to mod my car! The Sound Alone is Worth it! Thanks for the Info!
Now That Looks Like a Good Time! Well Done! And to think you made all that Power with a Dorman Manifold. Dorman Manifolds may not be the Best but They are "Readily Available" and won't Break the Bank! You just Proved they won't hold you back if you want to make More Power! The way that Guy riding with you was Giggling says it all! Thanks for an Awesome Video!
My man, you got the plumbing wrong. Leave the drivers side alone as is from factory. No catch can is needed on that side. On the passenger side, run a line from PVC to the IN catch can then run the line from OUT on the catch can to the intake manifold. Everything is sealed. You don't use breathers on these cars or on the catch can.
I have the Doorman for now and it drives fine but for power I will be getting the ford one later on when I have money but the doorman works fine just horsepower lost but the car still drives people watch all these videos and make people worry
Well, this is a performance oriented channel, I stated in the video that the Dorman is fine for your average daily driver commuter car. You notice the difference in a performance application.
I see comments that say they operate after CSX drops off empties in the morning. Any idea what time? I’m trying to catch L791 operating the Clearwater Sub and now after seeing this, I’m definitely trying to see this Alco in operation and catch CSX here as well
It all depends, they sometimes don't show up until the afternoon. The google machine says they run to Tampa on Mon/Wed, and St. Pete Tues/Thurs but doesn't give on duty time.
@ they start at 6am I’ve been told and will head to Tampa around 7am
Dude, you sound like a young Tom Leykis.
Will i compromise the "ram air" effect if I ditch the cvpi airbox? Or would the aftermarket airbox compensate?
That mf sounds amazing. Firm shifting trans, a loose converter, and what sounds like a high compression 4.6. I bet this car is a blast to drive
Will it be able to beat 2004 mercury marauder or 2011 crown Vic interceptor with the grand marquis upgrades.
Well an interceptor vic isn't anything super special really. Aside from heavy duty suspension, extra fluid coolers, dual exhaust and a slightly better computer tune (they only made 11HP more from 03-11), it's the exact same car. I would easily dust a stock P71 or P7B Crown Vic. One with identical mods would be an even match. A Marauder though, has the 4v so you're already making 302 crank HP factory, so the race would be much closer, I'm still making more HP and rev higher. A Marauder with the same mods however, would be much faster than this car.
@ oh
You can get the ford performance intake from LMR i think they were a recent addition to the site… like within the past few months recent. They finally made the coolant passage for the heater core metal. Only took them over 20 years 😂
So whats the deal with all the rings ? You got 10 more on your toes?
I do enjoy rings and jewelry, generally pick stuff up on vacations, I particularly enjoy authentic Native American stuff. Not necessarily expensive though, most is copper and silver.
Wonder if this kit would work to use for a dual caliper setup on my 2003 crown Vic?
Wow what a cool build. I have a 2010 mostly Stock Mercury Grand Marquis: I do have a Marty Tune and Rear Sway Bar, and was going to add a Front Sway Bar soon. What are your thoughts on ADTR vs ADDCO? For just fun road driving, is either one adequate in your opinion?
Either would be adequate in my opinion for just spirited driving. However, the ADTR bar is only slightly more expensive, and a full 1/2" bigger diameter. Depends on if you can get a good deal on the Addco bar I suppose.
Thx
I have to do this to my Lincoln. I paid 258 dollars for the Autotecnica. It has the metal inserts for the coil screws, the damn weather has been to cold to do anything. I wish I had ur garage
They're talking about a real lopey and pointless cam. Man that thing sounds so good at rpm!!
Love that exhaust
How much lower is the new seat versus the old? They look great. I really want to do this also
@@laserbeam1620 it’s not much different honestly, having the power options on the driver side though, allow me to raise and lower it still.

I got a question and maybe you can help me. I’m working on my explorer and the intakes are slightly different. I’m replacing with the new ford performance design cause Dorman is just TOO bad. I know it's not as good as a stock PI, but I digress. The difference is that the heater hose on the exploders go straight to the crossover, and on the mustangs and panther cars it goes to the back of the intake. I can plumb it to the crossover no problem, it goes where the temp season is on your car and the exploders don't have a temp sensor there, but I’m not sure how to block off the "stock" inlet on this style intake. Help is appreciated!
@@bobbymarks2485 personally, I would try something like a rubber pipe cap, a good hose clamp, and lots of RTV. It’s not threaded, so you don’t really have many options for plugging it…
Great vid lots of great information 😎
Really enjoyed the video. Super cool build, thanks for sharing!
Glad you liked it! Of course, there's more to come next season!
Buddy your car is awesome,I would like to do same mods to my ppv interceptor Crown Victoria.Really sharp looking mercury.😎🚔
Hey man, if you don't mind, I have a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis, and I like the way you're car sits. what year are your GT500 springs for the rear? What springs did you use up front
I’m on coil overs up front, being that you’re pre-2003, your suspension is different from mine. Check out ADTR.net , they might be the only ones offering an adjustable suspension setup.
Mustang intake
Great videos. I learn from you. Thank you
Happy to help!
What kind of wheels are those? And specs
GT500's from American Muscle, specs to fit a 05-09 Mustang. I also run a 5/16" spacer in the rear.
I'd like to use some still shots of your ride from this video in an upcoming episode of my own. Is that ok? And I'm happy to link to this video via a card if you wish.
@@Str8sixfan sure, of course there are much better videos/stills from newer videos now too. The car has gone to a full AutoX build…
What is the "tic tic tic" noise?
@@user-wh4wm3mw7l it’s an air pressure relief valve, newer valves have a longer duration…
@@Socoolds455 thanks
03:55 do not remove the EGR valve, no reason to. I have changed 1,000s of these intakes and have never once removed the EGR valve, 10% of guys that do will bust the EGR valve pipe when it didn't even need to be removed. just remove the two 10 mm bolts holding the EGR valve to the TB and lift the TB up and out of the way resting it over on top the pass front tire area, throttle cables still hooked up on 04 and older.
02:46 doesn't matter if the spark plugs are new, make sure all 8 are tight still, every chance you get. they blow out daily on the pages.
02:12 leave the entire fuel system together. No need to pull it apart and risk getting dirt in it and tearing o-rings, just lift the entire fuel rail up and tilt it over and sit it onto the the battery area upside down. You can start the car and trip the fuel pump cut off switch or pull the fuel pump relay to burn down the fuel rail pressure(the car will die after 10-50 seconds) so the fuel injectors will not want to push out of the fuel rail.
It doesn't sound like enough cam to me, i don't hear any lope but your build might not call for such a choppy cam. It sounds good as hell though, probably gap mine😅💯
@@blackfootchata86 I really need to find a nice quiet place lol, the chop can sometimes be hard to pick up through the boom tubes (big space to fill), it’s definitely there, just doesn’t chop the same as a push rod motor. I’m just happy the thing makes power to almost 7k rpm lol
@Socoolds455 oh yeah that'll probably help us hear it but nonetheless you have a bad ass build and power at 7k is insane! I'm sure it's not much of a sleeper but it's probably a little of a sleeper. Thank you for posting, seeing as how the factory rails can be redrilled and cut down to suit a variety of seats, I'm not so worried to try this myself. The important question is, are they comfortable? Do you regret losing the factory couch seat?
@@chrismofer well it’s certainly not a road trip car anymore, but they’re comfortable enough, and are fantastic on the track. I’m sure there are many more comfortable options that could be adapted just as easily…
I love me some Baldwins too. 😊😊😊 Like Vo1000
