1969 Mustang 351 Mach1 - DELIVERY DAY!
As anyone will tell you who's ever restored a classic Mustang, it's a journey of love, surprises, learning, delays, and yes, heartbreak too! This car came to us through the Mustang Club of Tampa and a friend of mine who's a member, I'm also a member. We always tell people to be ware of shiny paint and owners should know that this '69 Mach 1 Mustang when it was all said and done had to have almost ALL of the sheet metal replaced! Some surprises included an undercarriage that was so rusted out it was unsafe to drive, replacing the Complete floor from the firewall to the taillight panel. The biggest surprise was the original rusted out quarter panel with Mach 1 stripe UNDERNEATH THE QUARTER PANEL that was now rusted out!! Someone had done some funky body work for sure! Brian actually caught that one early on because the measurements were off a bit. However, as we all know, things work out in the end when you have the kind of expert team we have at GPR who stick with it and do whatever is necessary to make it right! On Saturday Steve was waiting in his front yard when we pulled up to his house, excited and ready! He'll be installing the upholstery himself along with a few other finishing touches, 'cause he's a car guy!! We hope you'll be on the lookout for Steve and his Mustang at a car show very soon because he's ready to show her off! Thank you Steve! May you have many years of enjoyment with your "new" Mustang!

1973 Mustang 351 Restoration
Переглядів 1563 місяці тому
This 1973 Mustang 351 Restoration will be painted back to it's original blue with no vinyl top, and we'll be replacing the automatic with a 5 speed transmission. The car's been in the family for 49 years. It looks like it has had some major bodywork some time after May 2008 because it had a "new" left front fender. It had body damage in both doors, and a new rear valance. The Mustang had been p...

This 1965 Shelby GT350 Mustang Tribute had very shiny black and silver paint when we got it, but you won't believe what is underneath! How cool is that? My dad was the Service Manager at Grant Ford during the time you speak of. Red Redmond. Dad put the Flying Horse together and raced it for a couple of years. I remember a bunch of the guys that worked there way back when. I just bought a 69 Mach 1 I'm restoring (not to perfect...street car with some power 351W roller motor and a tremec 5 speed and rack and pinion). It was a basket case but in very good shape. Almost zero rust. Pete Hannon was my dad's best friend and the two of them built the Flying Horse. I'm a corporate pilot but still have a love of Mustangs. Should warn ya...I have a 99 corvette too...hehe Dad hooked up with a 67 Custom with a 427 daytona motor. Very fast car for the day. They also raced a 65 Mercury Cyclone. I have a 65 404 with a hot motor and 5 speed too. Very quick car. I happened across your vid by accident.

      I traveled with Pete and the Flying Horse C/S Mustang. I don't think Red ever drove it. Bill (worked in service) started driving it and then Rasco (salesmen). That was my 1967 427 Custom, I ordered it and it was delivered December 1966. I blew up the engine with 872 miles on it. Red fixed it and Dad sold it to him. It would go 100 mph in second gear.

      @@gillisrestorations Dad married Pete's daughter Nancy. She was under 18 when he hired her in his office and she just stopped running fast enough. Pete did not talk to my dad for like 40 years. Nancy died a few years ago with dementia. They were married 38 years together. I forgot about Rasco but remember him. Dad did drive the car a few times...nothing permenent. Pete ran a crane and used to unload the hydroplane at lake magori which I took part in. He knew me and it took a long time for him to talk to me. He died with dementia too. I owned Frontrunner Marine for several years....barely kept my head above water. No pun intended. hehe That 427 was a frikin beast man! The starliner was the ultimate sleeper. 3 speed with overdrive. I LOVED it when dad got on it! I was about 13 or 14. I made it on my own without my dad just fine but he never gave me time of day. I got a black belt and got in the karate' biz...big mistake. Got my pilot license and that wasn't a big mistake! hehe My sister went into the Coast Guard for 23 years and then went to work for NASA for 19 years. We've both done pretty well. Eileen lives in Citrus Park near Ocala near my mom. Still love hot cars and motorcycles though! Now I can afford them a lot easier....hehe I've never ran my Comet...I suspect low 13's. If I run it I can't lie about it any more...hehe

    Hi Rusty! Seeing what you did with the stock gas tank, it reminded me of something someone told me back in the 70's or 80's. The story is that you can supposedly separate the tank top and bottom as you did, but replace the top with another bottom, effectively giving you a 34-gallon capacity. Handy for less station stops on a street car; not so much for drag use. You ever hear of this, or seen it done? Engine sounds great! Wix Gold filter? Thanks!

    • @gillisrestorations
      @gillisrestorations Рік тому

      I have never heard that. I suppose it could be done but you would also have to weld up where the sending unit goes plus you would have a problem with the gas filler neck. NAPA but they say it's made by Wix.

    • @413x398
      @413x398 Рік тому

      @@gillisrestorations I talked to my super secret source in Cali. He said that the gas tank thing was done on the '65 R-model GT350's. If you do a Google image search for that car, you can see the setup they ran. Very doable. I think the ticket would be to contact Spectra or Sherman and see if they could attach two new lowers together to avoid the hassle of dealing with used tanks. Nobody seems to repro that exact tank presently. Anyway, keep on with the channel! I have base Montego Q, Cyclone CJ Q, Ranchero GT Q, XR-7 R, and two Cobra R's. Some CJ swaps, too! Keep the faith.

      It's a lot of work to convert one to a fastback but it also worth it in the long run.

    I have a question. I am doing a complete restoration and coupe to fastback conversion. I’ve never done this before. I’ve done engine work but not sheet metal. I saw you put duraglass on the door where that body line was welded. What would be the purpose for that instead of bondo? Would there be areas that I would need to use that on my build? Just curious because I have seen other videos where the duraglass was used and this is all new to me. I’m actually starting to put mine back together so this would be a good time for me to learn the difference. I also seen someone use it on the welds for the roof. Y’all do really good work. I’m really enjoying your videos. What’s really cool is you do a power point and some of the stuff I have questions on I screenshot so I can go back and look at it when needed. Thank you and keep up the great work!

      Bondo absorbs moisture where duraglass doesn't. You don't want any moisture to get in your welds.
