5 Types of CPA Canada Exam Cases
When you open your CPA Canada exam case, what format is it going to be? Is it going to be a lengthy narrative with AOs? Is it going to be dialogue format? This "unknown" may be adding to your nervousness for the CPA exam. In this video, I show 5 different types or styles of cases that CPA authors use when preparing cases. Understanding these will help reduce your surprise. Here are 5 most common types:
► (1) The Classic: Common in Core 1, it has a narrative followed by appendices. The narrative includes background info, user info, and requireds
► (2) The Short-form: The narrative is brief, with the first appendix providing background information and AOs. The narrative often takes up only 1/3 of the page.
► (3) Chit Chat: This dialogue format is a discussion between users, with AOs included in the dialogue. It appears in Core 1, Core 2, CFE, and other levels. Day 1 of CFE always uses this format.
► (4) Email format: The narrative is an email with embedded requireds. Authors might include sticky notes, text message bubbles, etc.
► (5) Presentation: This style features a presentation followed by a discussion or additional information.

Is MBA After CPA Worth It?
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Місяць тому
is it worth getting an MBA after your CPA? In this video, I break down whether it's worth it. Bottom line: Many CPAs think an MBA will help with career growth, but for most, it's not worth the investment. Here’s what to consider: ► Why are you getting it? Want to move outside of accounting into VP or operations roles? It might be worth it. ► Planning to open a business outside of accounting? It...

I am new in Canada and I was looking to be a CPA to add it to my knowledge; I think it is a good thing to add to my knowledge because of my company. Anyway, I wanted to ask you about the process and if you have a video explaining what is the best way to get done all the courses. The page says that it can take 30 months. I want to do it in less than that; I have time and accounting knowledge already. So, I was wondering about your recommendation on it. and of course guide me on where to start to buy the review of the courses in your page. exited to hear from you.

    I feel like again any new area showing rapid growth is being slowed down as In the last month or so Canada and US Current CPA companies are for sale as (retirement) bought again, full cloud implementation, new valuation ( usually 50-120percent increase ) to resell again were bigger cpa Corporations consolidate smaller businesses to full acquisition while implementing 2.0 model for future certification. Which requires up to 85 percent less work force (explaining current layoffs were lots rather get over all this liability as quick as possible... increasing the gross profit margins by lots. Creating easily 1M in profits that are completely disrupting not only the CPA industry with every other industry around. By 2025-26 and closer to be determined mandatory date . The global market could be already saturated were the early bird's who are already on it adapting to every updates will be the ones now in control of the market becoming CPA corporate giants , leaving a door to govt partnerships who will attempt to control the industry at best leaving little room then for small businesses or starting entrepreneurs who won't be able to have the same seat . Again breaking them down to stay down.. my 2 cents

      @@abcdedfg8340 stop gatekeeping others to become CPA. I know you are the type that want CPA to remain elite and have as few candidates and members as possible. Hence you are giving dumb advice to people and ask them to defer becoming CPA.

  • @PradeepJohnsonChung
    @PradeepJohnsonChung 3 місяці тому

    Personally, I would never wait for the new program if I were a candidate. Gevorg's advice is - if you don't have an immediate need for CPA you can wait, but I don't think that should be recommended. Just think of the timeline: -Program implemented in 2027 (earliest), assuming no more delays, which could very well happen due to the Ontario & Quebec divestitures. -CFE will likely continue to run until 2029 to 2030 to allow students to finish the old program. -First few years, no matter what, is going to be messy and likely attract a lot of bad reviews. -By the time the program stabilizes would be around 2032/2033. -By then, if you realize the new program is harder to pass, you can't go back to the old CFE. If you are willing to wait this long, I question why you would even be in the CPA program. That's almost 8 years of waiting. My recommendation is to do your CFE ASAP under the old program. There are also a lot of members advocating CPA to be harder and a lot of gatekeeping (see how CFE pass rates have dropped from 82% to 70% in just under 10 years). Some members are pushing CPA exams to be harder and processes to be more onerous for future candidates so CPA can maintain its prestige. And the new program (at least in the first few years) need to appease these members. Your hope that CPA will become easier under the new program is a daydream. Just look at how CFA and the notoriously 20% pass rates during COVID and you'll understand.

    • @michelleyu91
      @michelleyu91 3 місяці тому

      Agreed. Even when CPA pep was implemented for the first time from transcript evaluation to the very first CFE offered in Sept 2015, it was messy. With the current program, there are still plenty of resources you can look into to prep for the exams and experience reporting. Don't forget about the opportunity costs associated with waiting for the new program such as earning and advancement potential. Life events can unexpectedly turn things into a different direction which can impact CPA progression goals too.

    • @abcdedfg8340
      @abcdedfg8340 3 місяці тому

      Cannot agree. Even current cpa members would have a hard time fulfilling pert requirements in many cases. Why punish oneself with unnecessary mountains of paperwork when you could be enjoying your weekend with people you care for? We are only young and healthy once. How would you rather spend that time?

    • @PradeepJohnsonChung
      @PradeepJohnsonChung 2 місяці тому

      @@abcdedfg8340 and you think new program won't be mountains of paperwork...on top of that, you have to do lots and lots of research on the new program which CPA staffs and Gevorg won't know a lot about. Let's be honest, people have the tendency to procrastinate. You are only young once yes, and precisely because of the energy you currently have that you should finish the program right now as opposed to giving yourself more excuses to procrastinate and can no longer study when you are old.

But company made liability of only $87 What if customer came later and Purchase another shoe worth of $ 100 But customer already have loyalty point worth of $95 ..then they will pay only $5 But company provides only $ 87 ...so should customer pay $13??? I hope you understand my doubt ...kindly clarify this. What would be the Journal entry when customer purchase products by using loyalty points at that time??

    Thanks Gevorg for sharing this. May i know what would be the fate of RMA / MRA /MOU between CPA Canada and International Chartered Accountancy Institutes ? What exemptions should Members of such International Chartered Accountancy Institutes / Bodies, expect from CPA Canada ?

    Passing the CPA exams is when you study hard, if you can't study or you don't have time for your studies I'd advise you get yourself a help like Mr Dylan.

    Hi Gevorg, thanks for the video, good stuff. I had a question, How about pursuing USA CPA via a Master of Accounting Degree in the USA and then later gaining experience and then transferring to Canadian CPA. Also would you say American CPA is world recognized compared to the Canadian CPA only recognized in Canada? Also in terms of career growth does US CPA pay more compared to the Canadian CPA ? Looking forward to hearing from you?

      You’d need to look into the agreement between CPA Canada and USA as I thought there were residency requirements and minimum experience needed before Transferring

    I think the best solution is probably to hold a referendum, but inevitably, all CPA Ontario/Quebec members will likely vote to split while the rest of Canada votes to stay. It will likely still pass if Ontario/Quebec members are offered reduced membership fees. The problem is, the admin process is going to be long and CPA Canada will find a way to let the referendum not pass, for example, by setting threshold at 75% or something. To avoid all the bs, Ontario/Quebec just left without consulting members. There hasn't been much objection in the Ontario/Quebec community it seems. However, rest of Canada seems to be worried as the most powerful provinces are leaving, and the prospect of higher fees as Gevorg says. The implication is that we are seeing some members (and this will only grow as time goes on) in Alberta and BC have started to push their provincial bodies to withdraw as well. This is a going concern issue for CPA Canada as the organization cannot sustain itself for sure. If the provincial bodies will not withdraw, the "portability of designation" that is currently promised will be the biggest loop hole, where students and members alike simply transfer to Ontario. I can envision a massive membership transfer (except those under public license) to Ontario. To keep CPA Canada, there needs to be some fundamental changes. Essentially, it is a power struggle where Ontario folks feel like they contributed the most, and did not get allocated enough resources...Ontario is subsidizing the rest of the provinces. A simple way is to nominate board seats according to membership by province. For instance, similar to our elections, Ontario should get 5 seats of the Board, Quebec gets 3, BC gets 2, AB gets 1, etc. And budget wise, Ontario should get the most given they contributed to the most. Obviously, CPA Canada won't let that happen given they want the power themselves. This struggle has probably been ongoing on since 2015. If CPA Canada won't yield, they will cease to exist. A new national body will be required...who has the largest membership base? Ontario. That's why this is a smart move on CPAO's end. I would say that CPAO raises really good points in its FAQ, some really sketchy things were noted on the CPAC side, notably the 2019 CFE and trademark registration. CPAC has a chance to respond to these allegations but their responses were quite unclear, further cementing the assertion that they are not transparent and support for the split.
