I was raised by a single mom—the problems I had to fix on my own when I grew up
My experience being raised by a single mom, the childhood trauma it gave me, and what I did to forgive and move past it as an adult.
Growing up in the projects with an absent father and an overwhelmed single mom, I experienced firsthand how childhood trauma shapes our adult lives. In this raw and personal story, I share:
-My journey from anger to understanding - how becoming a father changed my perspective on my own upbringing
-The science behind childhood trauma - how early experiences literally reshape our brains and impact trust, relationships and emotional regulation
-Real statistics on single-parent households, custody arrangements, and the complex factors that create these situations
-Breaking generational cycles - practical steps I took to heal without therapy
-The difference between being liked vs being respected and how this mindset shift changed everything
This isn't about bashing single moms or absent fathers. Instead, it's an honest look at how childhood experiences impact us, backed by research and personal experience.
Whether you grew up in a single-parent home or are raising children on your own, this video offers perspective and hope for breaking destructive patterns.

Children whose parents went to university are most likely to go themselves. It all boils down to the language used in the home whether a child is successful or not. Having both parents under one roof in a healthy relationship really helps also. There are of course exceptions that happen.

How i stay outta trouble: 1.Stay as superficial as possible with woman (it avoids so much stress, drama, trouble and misery) 2.staying sober stands parallel to avoiding woman (atleast with me ongoing 2years now) 3.only pay for sex (i got my needs and they need to be met, everything is capitalized upon so just deal with it...) this also keeps em at a healthy distance, there's a lot variety and you don't think as much anymore with you're Jonson, it ensures you a peaceful life because nobody is getting pregnant and this equals "no child support" . 4.avoid drama at the workplace (This keeps you're financial income intact and gives you a solid financial foundation"+- 2years of income", it's a come and go system this day and age... Just try to stay as long as possible...) 5.workout, fitness and eat healthy to see the threats coming from a mile a part, so you won't get scammed, hussled or folded, especially by law enforcement or government, they're the hardest to bypass their scams, situations or their manifactured problem solving skill's that costs you money....

The idea that it is only ( or mainly ) trolls who will lack their own personal avatar picture because , “ of their looks or lack there of “ , is patently false . Maybe , just maybe , it has to do with the fact that said troll does not wish to be identified and then linked to all said trolls’ “ trolling “ . Just a theory stated by yours truly - a handsome motherfucking troll motherfucka!

While I agree with much of what you have to say about what you learned at the homeless shelter -- partially coming from my own experiences with homelessness/home-insecurity/homeless shelters -- I'm going to counterpoint, somewhat, your point that people use Minimalism as a cope for their lack of "ambition or grit." . . also coming what I've observed and experienced wrestling with housing and/or poverty. Summed up: People waste money on shit they don't need. Constantly. And that's often how they find themselves without savings or credit to help through the 'lean times' if they ever come. I try to live rather simply, but it isn't just about trying to 'save money' so much as it is knowing I have plenty, already, and even the stuff I have to manage is at risk of becoming overwhelming. . . .all this, when I KNOW what makes me happiest is simple things, like reading a book while drinking an iced mocha at a cafe, or doing something like playing catch or riding bikes with my son. When it comes to "ambition & grit". . .well, I'm not going to burden you with the things I'm working for, and have been, except to say they're more than most people even try; and I work up to 70-hours a week between two jobs with these goals in mind. (Again, shit like Streaming TV, cable, large TVs, Playstations, expensive jewelry, or any of the other things people regularly waste their time and money on aren't part of the future I see wanting for myself.) So, trying to live somewhat 'austere', here's what I have to show for it: Own my house with rental property. More job security than most, with backups ready, just in case. A decently sized investment account (which can be liquidated as 'savings' if I really find myself in an 'Oh shit!' situation, though I prefer to just let it grow. . . more cushion for the pushin'). And a couple of days ago I moved around over $10,000 not because I 'needed' to, but because some basic math showed me that doing so would immediately result in greater financial gains than NOT doing so. This is not a 'low key' brag, but presented as greater evidence against the idea that people who try to live simply do so just because they're broke or lazy to live opulently. Truth is, it's quite the opposite: Most of the people I know who lack 'ambition' or 'grit' -- i.e. they only work one job (and maybe it's full-time), don't take any initiative to get better at their job (or work to get a better job), they don't read books to expand their knowledge, they haven't made any attempt at things like traveling, don't try new things like learning a foreign language, an instrument, or even taking up a constructive hobby. . .these are the people who nonetheless call themselves 'hustlers' while occupying themselves with the latest consumer junk they can manage.

7:05 my guess is just as humans we rely on our parents mostly for information and if theyve been well in a shit financial situation its hard to pick up habits or just learn about money the way lets say a child of a ceo would learn about finances and lets not even begin about how mediocre "standard" school systems are at teaching a subject as important as finances or taxes unless you go to a specialised economics course or some shit... point im trying to make i think the school system is just flawed on a fundamental level for most people

If you give people enough money that they can afford a house, I guarantee it will "fix their spending habits" Rich people are constantly given more money, and it totally makes their spending habits worse. Rich people have greedy spending habits. Poor people have needy spending habits.

Great video! My grandpa played the lottery every week and in total must have spent much more than he won. And the one time he won a bigger amount he spent it on an expensive coat for my grandma which was obviously a cute but dumb decision. Also both my grandparents smoked. So much wasted money...

What a dumb comment. Your grandpa buys his wife a gift, and you call that dumb? You sound greedy and heartless. The lottery is dumb, but you're a monster to turn a good story into a bad one.

@Antifan9989 I said it was cute but dumb. He loved her greatly and I loved them, but that money could have been better spent on almost anything else. For that money you could have bought multiple pairs of shoes or coats for both of them. The "dumb" thing about it which aligns with what the video says is that he spent all the money immediately and on one thing only.

Very well spoken. However it takes two, there was a balance of power that no longer exists: women are the guardians of reproduction and men the guardians of commitment/resources. This changed with a number of socio-economic shifts, from women in the workplace to attitudes on s3x, marriage, birth control, and government intervention in markets. It's also generational (we're close in age) so the information and resources available to your mother was way different than the women who have birth after the 2000s. I'm a believer in rights and responsibilities. If a postmodern woman can make the unilateral decision to bear life to term, if all is equal, they should be responsible for that decision, in my opinion.

If you are against legalization just look at Holland, before legalization the drug problem was running rampant, after weed was made legal and hard drugs were administered by nurses in special houses the problem became manageable and violence decreased. Even a Dutch police officer gets behind legalization, that is how effective this change was.

This is a really informative and interesting perspective. As a socialist proponent of Universal Income for any capitalist society, I agree with your perspective that cash doesn't just immediately solve poverty issues. However, you can't begin to cure that damage until you address the cause. Just having UBI also doesn't fix everything. You need affordable housing that is safe and decent that slumlords can't just jack the rent on because everyone gets an extra 1500/month or whatever. Food deserts got to be dealt with. Buses trams and trains need to be put everywhere in cities like in every other civilized wealthy country (making it so poor ppl don't have to own a car to functionally get around and go to work would by itself be a massive anti poverty assistance). All these things go hand in hand and even with ALL that it won't magically solve poverty habits. I was fortunate enough to have housing safety due to roommates and a hand me down hoopty to drive in my 20s because I was living on 500 dollars a month. It took years to unlearn my bad habits. But with proper reform and a system that guarantees no one has to be IN poverty, we can give people a better opportunity to heal and prevent kids growing up from having to live through that same vicious cycle.

4:08 - Nope. They got to do roofing. 11:16 - Still missing what gave you reality. I was M/C suburban kid in the '50s, had a job (for tips) as a teen during that time, did not have to change direction to continue; not yet seeing what got you aimed at being an adult (for which you get a standing "O"). Wife works with a 'program' which hopes to keep kids in school and not shooting at each other. I'd like to provide her a link to your efforts, but I'm having a hard time finding the epiphany you found. What did you find which gave you direction?

Ask you spoke “I SAW MYSELF” first, my only son became a heroine addict and “OD’ed”:5 years ago. I was removed from my son’s life when he was at young age, even though I tried my own son at age 5 told the Jude he hated me. That closed the doors to me seeing him and when I did find him he was addicted and imprisoned for supporting a habit. I can say I am fortunate to have been able to find my only son and at least explain n befriend my son. I learned that my son had a daughter my granddaughter whom I have not ever see nor heard from even though I have asked her mother. All this to say that I did not learn of my son death till a month after by one of my son’s friends, I found the obituary and learned where he was buried. I have been to his grave only once but I have a memorial for him in my favorite place in California where I am from. Like you I suffered from the same condition and did not realized just of phony I really was. Like you I have a deep mistrust of everyone and really had to step back n not explode every time people whom I had to rely on fell short. Like you I was trying to survive I learned about this because I can not remember any of my child hood from teacher to family they can walk by and I would not know them. I am told that this is the mind protecting my from harm. That said I was a terrible person who I admit did NO I HAD NO IDEA WHAT ANYTHING WAS because I was trying to be liked by anyone. I was as hell, I agree I had to learn to forgive my parent and family even though they hated me fiercely. The forgiveness did not undo the learned survival skill that I simulated into it has taken years to to see the layers of fake ass shit I did just to be apart. Today as I found you channel I have watched the life I have lived in survival mode learning the hustle and my revolving run into the jail house. I can say that my own behavior has lead me to be in the gutter more time that I can say or will to admit and I still get up and now today this very moment I can full admit that the skills and lesson learned gave me the ability to navigate the sewer and ride above. My son is gone and I am in total monk mode life style and the child support keeps being deducted from my pay hahah child support enforcement still seizes my account at the bank on the regular. I have learn to work around it and am able to joke with the case worker as I ask for them to release my funds. Haha you know they seize my account but did not take a dime thousands of dollars n they just seize the account for a month n give me the money back. I feel you and I see you have despite the struggle have risen above. I applaud you and I enjoy the content you are spewing it totally real I have. Been there also. Peace

its expensive to be poor. Those 'unexpected' emergencies and expenses can set you exponentially further back. Does your car break down? Regular employment becomes precarious. You cant buy in bulk. You accumulate overdraft fees. They say the avg American has $600 in savings; if so the avg American is $600 away from catastrophe. I like that you talked about 'third world' poverty. Deprivation is deprivation but it looks different in advanced economies. Id say the same structural forces are at play in the poverty stricken projects as they are in Mexican shanty towns. I had a ten year period of extreme instability. I couldn't secure the basics, the bottom of Maslow's hierarchy. I know my brain isn't the same brain as prior to this protracted crisis.

Good point, but if you really want to lose friends, try this (hmm, am I speaking from personal experience??): become a pious Roman Catholic with Rosaries, daily mass and so on; 2) scoff at the nonsense around nine-eleven; 3) refuse the supposed killer of evil influenzas in shot form; [not saying anything by name, so your channel will not be affected)]; 4) Question the moon landing etc; 5) Argue agains the war in Vietnam (I'm not a young man, obviously); 6) Tell your Liberal (now former) friends that Obama is a hustler and a liar; You get the point. Oh, and money. Be rich, poor and in between and somebody will make that important to judge you and your station in life, in other words, a snob, a reverse snob, and a damn fool. I enjoy your podcast but I have to know: you retain your language, including the more colorful street idioms. I am NOT offended a bit and love the sheer sharpness of language tested by experience. Nothing flowery, but always right on the point. A final way to lose friends, and don't forget this, is they die of old age, and there isn't a thing you can do but comfort some of them and pray for the souls of the rest.

"Subscribed" I'm in Malaysia and although there are some differences with the general culture in the US, the fundamentals are the same. I sure hope a lot more people, especially those younger, will watch videos like this. Instead of the many TikTok etc. clips where people do silly things for Likes. I've hit rock bottom and hurt those closest too before finally "getting it" on how to go about in life. I'm so pleased to know that you have turned your life around. No less importantly, sharing your experiences here so that others can learn. I hope you will get the financial rewards you deserve from running this channel.

I had a very privileged childhood compared to what you went through. I remember one day driving by a poor neighborhood, my stepdad said "it's sad, but you can't solve a problem by living in it." I remember I felt disgusted by the remark. A few years earlier Reagan had stood in a ghetto somewhere and said "some people won't be helped". I knew they were wrong and I set out to prove it. Poverty is just about unequal opportunities, I knew. Decades later, including several years living in some poor barrios in Latin America, I've seen that the truth is somewhere in between.

Yean the extremes never hold the truth. It's always somewhere in the middle.

I think some other things worth noting is if they constantly take advantage of you, are very manipulative, don't respect your boundaries, and are selfish. I had a friend who would drop things off in my backyard he didn't have space for (he didn't have a garage) without telling me first, multiple times after I said it was not ok. He also did this to other people. One time he was coming into town (we lived an hour away) and he needed a place to stay for the night. I told him he could stay at my place but he had to be gone by 4 PM the following day because I was having my mother over. I came home around 5:30 or 6, and lo and behold he was having a whole cookout and inviting people over! He also would constantly try to guilt trip people into doing things. Best example I have is he guilt tripped me into watching his dog for days at a time. First time was for a weekend, I obliged because he was in a pickle and I didn't think it would be a regular thing. Afterward though he tried several more times in the course of a month! He actually eventually got kicked out of the frat he was living at because he dropped the dog off without the other guy there agreeing to watch her. The final wake-up call for me was what happened this New Year's. My other friends and I were planning on just having a chill night in but he pushed this idea of doing a bar crawl which we warmed up to. He decided to be the DD for some reason (very unlike him), and everything was going great but I guess around 1 AM or 2 AM he was getting real pissy and just up and left, leaving us behind at the bar without a word! So I had to spend the first hours of 2025 walking back home for 3 hours before I could eventually get a ride from someone else. Even after this I would have forgiven him if he just genuinely apologized after I talked to him about it, but he was totally incapable of it. So I broke things off.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! I definitely struggle with time management…it’s been a struggle for years, but I’ve always made excuses for myself and that’s really been a bad habit of mine. Watching this video though reminds me that I have to do better. Taking that first step though is first admitting that there’s a problem.
