Sea lion hunt with the T18s, T30Bs, and T117Bs (Feb 2024)

We headed out to search for whales with our friends at Maya’s Legacy. Thanks to a tip from the ferries, we found the T18s in Swanson Channel. Soon, they made an abrupt direction change and led us straight to more whales: the T30Bs and T117Bs who were engaged with a Steller sea lion. It was an acrobatic and memorable hunt!
T99s Harbor Porpoise Hunt - February 7, 2024

We caught up with the T99s in San Juan Channel on the afternoon of February 7th and saw a little bit of everything: resting, traveling, socializing, and a short but epic harbor porpoise hunt! Please note while the video does not contain blood and gore it does contain footage of the porpoise being rammed by the whales.
First Whales of the Year - 2024

January 17 was a snow day on San Juan Island, but with a whale report in San Juan Channel we ventured out to investigate and were rewarded with our first orca encounter of 2024: the T75Bs, T75Cs, and T77D off Cattle Point!
J-Pod at Point Robinson on 11/5/23

Seeing the Southern Residents pass Point Robinson is a bucket-list whale encounter, especially for viewers in Puget Sound. J-Pod did not disappoint as they cruised past the Point Robinson Lighthouse on Maury Island on the morning of November 5th, the majority of the whales all together in a tight group just yards from shore. Jason captured the encounter in this beautiful video.

Fall is our favorite time in the Salish Sea: the weather is perfect, the wildlife is abundant, and things have quieted down a little bit from the bustle of summer. Where is Hudson Bay?
@@MermaidMusings7 Hudson Bay is located in northeastern Canada, and is so large that it is surrounded by four provinces (Nunavut, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec). We visited Churchill which is located in Manitoba, on the west side of the bay.

Biggs don’t form pods that big .
Biggs don’t really form pods at all, but multiple families do sometimes meet up to form large groups like this that we affectionately call “T Parties”

my mom lives at the north end of Orcas island. Every time I visit I walk down north beach road to the beach. Was this on the north side of Sucia or between Orcas and Sucia?

Wow. This might be your best ever, Jason! Incredible. I was thinking about Monica's post about how unscathed the sea lion seemed when you left. In this footage it looks like the sea lion is ducking under the killer whale each time one comes in to ram him. Kind of the way you duck under a big wave rather than trying to leap over it. Like the sea lion times it just right so he goes under when the killer whale goes over. Looks like a game of who gets tired first. Absolutely incredible. Heart in throat. Thank you!
