Pandora's Jar was my most recent 5 star read. I've been struggling with physical books lately because I'm just so tired at the end of my work days that it's exhausting to think about reading lately. I have yet to read any Ann Petry books, but I am interested in them. Edited to add: did you really just get distracted by a squirrel? 😂 Love the heritage blue and the wallpaper. Lining up the words would be challenging and I wouldn't have even attempted the ceiling by myself. I like the contrast between the heritage blue and the modern wallpaper.

Hi Brittany, I agree with your analysis of A Marriage Portrait. I read it about a year ago and really was intrigued by the premise and loved the writing. I still have vivid descriptions of the palaces and characters in my head. However the ending really fell flat. I think I know what Maggie O’Farrell was trying to go for but it came so far out of left field that it didn’t seem believable. I am planning to read Hamnet next month! My favorite book of February was The Mermaid and Mrs Handcock. Its historical fiction set in 18th century London and the writing is excellent.

I'm reading Shining Through by Susan Isaacs. Are you old enough to remember the movie with Michael Douglas and Melanie Griffith? It's about a legal secretary who goes undercover in Nazi Germany to spy on them. Oh, and did I mention she's Jewish? So it's very personal for her - and dangerous.

My favorite read in February was The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese. 📚😄

In February, I finally got to listen to Bringing Down the Duke and it was a lot of fun! I also listened to Pandora's Jar about women in Greek myth and really enjoyed it. It was my first book by Natalie Haynes and I definitely want to read more.

Oh wow, I just read The Fraud in paper and really enjoyed it, but can totally see how an audio would have made it so so much less manageable. :/ I liked its pathos and the parallels drawn of freedom, morality, etc among the classes. Just--cutting!

I’m glad your reading slump continues to appear to be over. Hopefully it continues to stay far away. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on The Gentleman’s Gambit. I still haven’t read it yet, but you brought up several points. It is interesting that Elias’ race and religion doesn’t come up amongst the friends. Between that and Catriona’s piercing, it sounds like a modern rewriting of an older historical romance book. lol I love listening to your thoughts on the books you read. It always makes me wish I had continued minoring in literature instead of changing it to political science.

Your TBRs for this readathon are always flawless! 😍 I’m especially interested to hear your thoughts on Testament of Youth and Truly, Madly (if you get to them, no pressure). Every March, I participate in March of the Mammoths and March Mystery Madness, but maybe I can squeeze in a Herstoryathon book. 🤔

So happy to see you back! I missed your videos. There's so many booktube channels I love but they are mostly fantasy books(which I do love) and there's so few channels that are about literary and historic fiction and I miss hearing about those hidden gems that nobody else is talking about. Don't put too much pressure on yourself though. We're all here for whatever you create. I also purposefully didnt put a TV in the bedroom. I do need to get better at reading before bed and not being on social media as much. Edited to add that the painting is lovely.
