Pat Barker has been speaking to me lately. I want to dive into her work soon! I want to read Hamnet too!! Yes to feminist nuns and too bad it didn’t work for you. Moon Tiger is officially on my radar.
I enjoyed Dreams of Joy by Lisa See. A surprise favorite is Jane Austen, a literary biography by Carol Shields, which I read for Jane Austen July. It's a short, beautifully written book that made me want to read more Austen! Carol Shields is a Pulitzer Prize winner who I had never heard of and now want to read (she passed 2003). I liked Moon Tiger and gave it 4.25. I adored Hamnet and am excited to be on the wait list for The Marriage Portrait. Thanks for the heads up.
Favorite book so far has been A Train to Moscow. I've read so many great books in several genres though, so it's so hard to say just that one. It's really stuck with me though. A recent favorite was The Miracles of the Namiya General Store. Also, Crazy To Leave You was a contemporary romance that had me laughing a lot in traffic while I listened to it.
I had to put The Duchess Countess aside because it couldn’t keep my interest. I think it had more to do with my mental state at the time, so I’m mot giving up on it. Maybe if you have a positive reading experience (no pressure! lol), it’ll motivate me to give it a second chance. Heads up that end notes aren’t included in the book (you have to print them out separately from the publisher’s website), which may or may not have dulled my excitement about starting the book. 😇 You’ve piqued my interest re: Jamaica Inn (I already impulse bought The Duke Undone after watching your last vlog 🤣). It’s been an underwhelming reading year for me so far, but I really enjoyed “These Silent Woods” by Kimi Cunningham Grant, “Peach Blossom Spring” by Melissa Fu, and “Wicked and the Wallflower” by Sarah MacLean (if you’re looking for a snack-y read lol).
Fingers crossed that I get on with The Duchess Countess when I finally pick it up. That is really weird about the end notes, though. I’ve never seen that before. And yay for Duke Undone and Jamaica Inn 😂 I’ve never read a McLean, but I’ll need to check those books you mentioned out.
What has been your favorite and least favorite books of 2022 so far?

Yes! I’d love to hear your thoughts on Pat Barker. ❤️❤️
Hamnet was a four star read for me and I hope you enjoy her latest!

Those all sound great, especially Lisa See. I’m in the minority for not being into Jane Austen 🙈 But I’m so glad that you enjoyed Moon Tiger!
