The Worst Anamorphic Lens of 2024?
My review of the amazing DZO Pavo 2X Anamorphic lenses. I used the 28mm, 55mm, and the 100mm Pavos for this review. They are a great option if you need a ton of vibe and interest for your project.

How I filmed a documentary with a mobster
Great to watch you putting this in play. Lewis is an incredibly practical and talented human.
I preferred the Vespids for wide angle shots with their smoother/cleaner out of focus areas, makes the shot less distracting, but there's something about the FD longer focal lengths on close ups that's very organic and kind to faces.
Agreed!
Did you show this on AOD feedback hour? Looks familiar.. and thank you for the tips.... Definately feed and hydrate the crew & talent...
Yeah I did show it there a while ago. Thanks for watching!
@@timothy_films I really enjoyed seeing the clip you shared on feedback hours.... Great story... & thanks for the BTS follow up.
A director I worked with was using this on set to take my footage. And I've been having a nightmare recently with a few projects being on multiple ssd's (whoops). So this is needed so I know what's happening with my footage. thanks for the vid!
Thanks!
Where do you get that xlr cable for the 6kpro? Nice video dude
I used both of these cables: amzn.to/47Tc2mv & amzn.to/3TXQPln
@@timothy_films gotcha. Thanks man.
@@timothy_filmsanother question if you don't mind. How did you set up that safety channel? I have a zoom h4n pro and was wondering if we could do the same thing.
@@snead1 I used the Zoom H6 which has a 1/8 Line Out port. I was able to run that to the camera. I'm not sure about the h4n. Check to see if it has a line out that can be gain adjusted.
@@timothy_films cool. Thanks again man.
Whoa whoa wait! Why doest EF mount fit on EF? It should be like that. Have you asked them?
It does fit on EF. I was referring to the speedbooster which has a glass element that prevents this particular lens from working. It’s pretty common for this to happen
the chair he is using sucks. it's like he's learing backwords.
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Come on, man! Just talk, to many jump cuts! It is really off putting. You don't need to cut every 15 seconds. But thanks for the review and posting.
Thanks for the positive feedback 🙏
This is an amazing documentary and really needs a lot more views! Instant subscribe:).
Wow, thank you!
Amazing work!
this is expert level wow and i didnt know that the black magic could look that beautiful wow i only have the canon eos r
Thank you 🙏
dope, thanks!
So good man! I can tell you put serious care into this documentary!
Thank you 🙏
My dream is to achieve fantastic color with this one.
Wow!!! ....this definitely deserves more than 500 views. I am an amateur videographer and I was completely captivated by this production and forgot that it was a documentary and thought I was watching a big budget film. Congrats to you and your crew, you guys did a fantastic job.🍻
Glad you enjoyed it!
I wish there was a side by side
How did you get you pocket 4k images to look like that.
Lots of practice and knowing the limitations and strengths of the camera
Been binging your videos tonight, they’re incredible dude! Love the doc
Awesome! Thank you!
Hey Tim, awesome review! Quick question: would the EF mount work on the Komodo X with the Canon EF>RF 0.71x adapter? You've mentioned on the Speedbooster the element touches the glass of the adapter. Trying to figure out whether it's just a Metabones issue of if it would be for any adapter? Thanks!
Great question! I’m not sure to be honest since I haven’t used that set up exactly, but my adapter is the Metabones XL 0.64x
looks really really nice! would have just added a little catch for the eyes
Looks great man. So lucky wit that sunlight
Nice. It would be nice as well to see the interview video 🙂
Here is the documentary- ua-cam.com/video/O7U7cPv3MIA/v-deo.htmlsi=XX12-WopHJj1S4j8
Amazing breakdown. Loved it thanks for sharing. More of this on UA-cam plz
Thank you! Will do!
I actually like the fd more than dzo.
It seems like you didnt calibrate the back focus. Thats why theyre soft
Yes I did calibrate them. They’re just super soft.
When you say “calibrate” them, do you mean the back focus adjustment ring was adjusted, or do you mean the lens was shimmed, as well? I had a set for a couple of weeks and discovered that the softness I was experiencing was due to the lens needing to be shimmed, as the back focus ring did not have enough adjustment and this was definitely not obvious during tests. Made a HUGE difference. The lens went from being very soft to being absolutely acceptably sharp. I was impressed.
@@morganestill i meant both
@@isaacbedford3644 Copy that. Good to know. Thanks for the info. I wonder if QC, or simply a difference in cameras could account for that.
Great review! Love the DZO Vespids, so I know these have quality behind them.
Thanks! Definitely good build quality
Whats the font you used for your signature in the beginning of the video?
I believe it’s called Gloriant
DZO's are so good. I love the still comparisons you throw in at the end. Really shows the strengthes of the Vespids.
sick setup.
Peace. Beatiful shot! What did you use to haze up that huge area?
Thanks! CHAUVET DJ Hurricane Haze 1DX
what is the monitor used?
Portkeys BM5WR
Hey! Great video. where did you get de Canon FDs?
I bought them locally from the original owner and then converted them to EF mount
I thoroughly enjoted this lens review and how you did it, really nice. The Vespid primes looks good but in my opinion the Canin FD have something to them that I kinda enjoyed. All the lenses look good. Keep uk the good work.
Thanks!
Awesome details! I started as a video editor but not bought my first camera (fx 30) to include video production in my portfolio :)
Nice!
Did you use a speed booster with the 4K?
Yes 👍
@@timothy_films thank you. Loved the look of the 28 and 50mm. Thank you for the video
@@timothy_filmsWhich Speed booster did you use?
@@OwoyemiMichael I use the Metabones XL 0.64x speed booster
Looking at a small iPhone screen I thought everything looked great :) there was a few differences with sharper between highlight with the window, but you’d have to be very concerned with your visual storytelling. I’d say the indoor scenes seemed slightly more pleasing on the FDs, for the outdoor shots no opinion. Maybe should rewatch this on a proper screen and see if there are more obvious differences then :)
ABSOLUTELY WELL DONE SIR,TREMENDOUS SHOUT OF "DIRECTOR RESPECT" TO YOU.
Thanks! 🙏
Color contrast to canon. But so damn close.
I know what you experienced all too well. Wrapping a project can feel wonderful, yet followed by an empty void. The affirming feeling of purpose has left the room with the finishing of the project, but it is only temporary. The "adrift at sea" feeling makes perfect sense as creatives strive to always be creative. When I'm not working it can feel like failure....but it's not. It's just the pause before I start on the next project. Until the next project begins, recognize the feeling for what it is and let it go. Take some time to be "uncreative" and know that you have to refill the well before you take on the next project. Don't let these feelings distract you from being available for your next project. It will come. It always does.
Very well said. Thanks!
I recently got the Vespid 21, 40 and 75 and like them very much. Lots of character, minimal focus breathing and good color matching between lenses. The 21, 40 and 75 set is a great range, and I don't miss a 35mm at all. The 40 does what I normally use a 50 for, as I like a slightly wider focal length. I may add the 28 down the road, but will probably get the Vespid 90mm macro first.
Great choice!
where can i get the slider that you use in this video please
It’s the Dana Dolly in the description 👍
Thanks for sharing Timothy! Very important subject, and a familiar feeling.
Thanks for sharing this. Glad I came across your channel!
Thank you! 🙏
I know what you’re feeling. Not quite to the extent you’ve experienced your depression but when you pour so much in you have to be poured into as well. Praying for you bro! If you need anything just holler. 🤙🏽
Thanks man 🙏
My 2 cents: I try not to tie my sense of self-worth to praise from others. Create what you think matters. OTOH, we all have clients, which leads to creative burnout: ua-cam.com/video/p8abrS7Y4ak/v-deo.html
Awesome cinematography!
Thanks!
