Let's examine the accent of a Colombian speaker as she speaks English. Our purpose is to help Spanish speakers learn American English pronunciation, not to poke fun at the Spanish accent. This lesson is part of a larger course on American Vowels and Placement. Find it on Udemy or Skillshare.

    This series is so helpful 😊, as a non native, I think the resonance for American English is at the back half of the mouth, 👄 . So all Americans to me sound to me so warm and rich vs non native voice when they speak English, their voice is so thin and weak. And I think resonance is the core part of the American accent But watching you saying things in other languages with a “bad” American accent really shows me how American English works.

    Do you drop the /t/ ed ending in tapped cause it is between two consansts (p and h) ? Or you just prononce it like an released T to link it smoothly to him or im just in case the h is dropped.

      you can either say tappt him (or) tap dim, where the t becomes a fast d linking to the i in im- h dropped.

    Hi Smooth English, would you like to listen the 2 sentences(ua-cam.com/video/CLaF_gdtRgE/v-deo.html)? my question is "the stress pitch method of "largest" sounds like not same, what's the difference in English?" thanks

    • @SmoothEnglish1
      @SmoothEnglish1 4 місяці тому

      your link leads to a very short video and I don't see how it's related to your question. I'm not sure what you mean by largest sounds. We do have primary stress and secondary stress. Primary stress is a little louder, higher pitched and more energetic than secondary stress, but secondary stress still has a full vowel.

In the video you put up about 6 years ago which is ua-cam.com/video/nX5j2jH7dLE/v-deo.htmlsi=kiHmnU3isEY4RvvD In this old video from 6 years ago you have a different explanation, especially on how to place your tongue tip for the long E. Have you improved on your method over the years? Should I follow the instruction in this new video which came out 1 year ago? Thanks very much in advance.

      good observation. There is more than one way to do the vowels. You can do either but shoot for the new way because it makes your tongue more active and strengthens it. it's also more like a singer would do it- so it will get your tongue out of the way and help your breathing.

    Yes luscious ; very cool ; the nuances of the "they" ; perfect.. I've always been conscious of my breath release on the "th" ; and now this gem ; wow ; the observation of the microsecond it takes for the tongue to dive down.. Enjoyed spotting this ; and having to peer through those perfect, pretty lips, to observe the subtle strike, to get it right.. You're that queen, with the one-of-a-kind content ; a teacher's teacher ; if they only knew.. Mmmwwwahh!!
