I agree that the conversation with Charlotte is the beginning of what made Guts leave. It was right after he he assassinated the generals son. I think he felt very low and nothing equal to Griffith, so hearing that sent him down the road of "What is my dream?" But this is where we see the differences in the two. Griffiths dream was so material he sacrifices anyone to get it. But Guts actually ends up realizing he loved the band. He says this after he left Casca too, he said "why do I never realize what I have before it's too late?". The story is still just starting, Farnese is a great character, I can't wait for them to see Mozgus.

Just binged whole series up to this point and can't wait for the rest! I've read berserk at a very young age and reliving those memories kinda helped me to understand myself and Berserk better. Thank you for your videos 👍

Guts didn't abandon his friends. By Griffith's own words, he couldn't be friends with anybody who made their dreams subservient to his own. The irony is that Griffith probably only ever considered Guts as his friend, but by overhearing his conversation with Charlotte, Guts tried to be worthy of Griffith. It's a spiraling twirl on misunderstandings and lack of awareness between the two of them. Guts always intended to come back, Griffith hadn't ever shown his childishness over being thwarted, but he also had never been thwarted in so resounding a manner before

It's 100% that Guts left because he wanted to be Griffiths equal. He didn't necessarily need a dream, but he didn't want to only be a stepping-stone for Griffith in his goal to rule a kingdom. Guts left because of that attachment to Griffith and Griffith went mad because of his attachment to Guts. Typical case of communication ruining a relationship (and perhaps the world).

Guts realizing that all he wanted, or needed to be, was right there all along.... for the second time. First as a Captain of the band, and then with Casca after the Eclipse. Must've eaten away at him. I personally his motivations from eacapnig each of those were slightly different, but have accunalted to this point.... A conviction to save Casca no matter what. That's an unstoppable force.

When he said momma with regard to the child, it reminded me of the opening song of berserk. “Even mother will show you another way.” Of course that was about the golden age arc and because guts mom died he didn’t know his own way but it kinda applies here too with the infant showing the way to casca. And don’t forget “put your grasses on and nothing will be wrong”
