If One looks deeper, many times we would only do things we 'like' (emotional rationally like eating ice cream) but if One would 'force Oneself' of not obeying One's Emotions to assert the Will of the mind over Emotions, no doubt will make One feel a bit Shitty. But, after times of these types of Self challenges. Will One see the Victory of the mind over the Demons within Emotions. JamesWhiskey%

Of course suffering is not something that went wrong with life.. Life seems to be what's wrong with life...The level of torment is mind-boggling to simply consider it as something wrong. The default state is suffering and the only certainty in life.. Suffering is the fuel of life.. It is the only motivation we know of.. Everything else is "masked" suffering.. Even the so-called positive motives are simply avoidance of suffering (in one way or another)..

I don't aknowledge everything in this summary - especially the parts about altruism and will. I think that one can very well be altruistic, and still not be "living for others" or neglecting yourself. It's possible to aspire for harmony among all; living for yourself, but still considering and acknowledging others' needs and desires. Frankly, I think most people in societies (must) do this automatically. There's no "pure" egoism or altruism - it's all in the balance. What comes to will in all this, is that a person who understands this, wants good things (optimally) for everyone. These concepts aren't mutually exclusive or conflicting, over a time period.

It's hierchy. We've invented the instrument of hierchy to control men and women 5000 years ago lol. No known philosopher has lived outside of it and none have been able to critique it. Philosopher have always served kings and popes. We were never intended to reach happiness. They found a way to reduce us as much as possible without us revolting. Open your eyes. They don't have shame. Shame was always ment to control you. Shame is dead now. I killed it. Rejoice lol 😆

  • @LucasMakes

The one thing no philosopher in history that I know of has been able to question the biggest system we live under. The concept of hierchy itself. They control you to accept your place on the hierchy by shame. You are made inferior by the presence of a man who tells you to do their bidding. They are all inadequate. You're suffering when a man has his boot on your neck. Shame is dead. I killed it. Be free

It's easier to notice when good people are sad and evil people are satisfied because those cases contradict our (unfounded) expectation of karmic justice. The reality is that there's a lot of good people satisfied with life and many times, evil acts are rooted on deep emotional wounds. I think satisfaction and sadness have nothing to do with being good or evil. Having a purpose, belief system, or a firm moral code and acting in accordance to it is what's actually important. Good people that suffer are generally those who would like (or would've liked) to be a bit more selfish but can't, because of complacency, lack of assertiveness, etc. Same with evil people. As the most prominent example, Mother Theresa might have suffered a lot, but I wouldn't say she was sad. She had her beliefs and acted according to them.

Don't think so. Millions of people value their achievements, and attain meaningful status in their communities. Seeing purpose as "an illusion" is certainly not an experience shared by the majority of humankind. There are many who see their purpose, fulfill it, and live in peaceful contentment. This is not at all unusual among healthy, normal persons. Seems to me that Schopenhauer was perhaps a disturbed individual, who thought that the cosmos offered no real purpose or meaning at all. He was probably a godless man as well. Though I don't know this for sure, it would fit this philosophy.
