PowerSmart Mower Cable Replacement (DB2194SH) Self-Propelled Lawn Mower - EASY
After fighting with my recently acquired PowerSmart lawn mower, I figured this quick video might help someone out.
Due to where the drive cable attaches, I thought I was going to have to remove the whole rear plastic that attaches to the mower deck, but I found an easier way.
Pop your spark plug wire off (hidden under the red top cover), remove your blade, remove the plastics underneath, and two screws that hold the rear axle in and you’ll have yourself just enough room to install the new cable.
Here’s a link to the replacement part for the DB2194SH, which is a two in one drive and engine cable:

While in some training, a few of my friends and I took it upon ourselves to cross state lines for this hunk of junk. I didn't quite realize just how bad it was! Was it worth the effort? After countless hours chasing down worn out front end parts, fighting with the fuel system, snapping off bolts, and restoring plastics and other components, it turns profitable! Such a BEAUTIFUL car!!!🫡
Thanks for watching!
Nice s197👍
Thanks man. She’s a 50 footer for sure, but definitely fun haha
Got a 2017 Ram 1500 3.6 V6 with 33k miles (was trying to get out of a car with a lot of problems) what kind of lift do you recommend to fit on 35s? (I’m new to this)
A lot of guys are running Rough Country. Word on the street is they’re increasing quality recently but are still on the cheaper side if I’m not mistaken. Obviously I went with the Fabtech kit which is kinda bougee up there with BDS and all that. Depends on what you’re looking to do with it, but I’ve had really good luck quality wise with mine… but I sure paid for it hahaha. Best of luck, man!
@@backcountrybuilds ya. I want to put 35s on it but I’m not sure what the right tires are for my truck just yet and how to know what I should choose
@@taylorsampson5434 what a lot of guys do, including me, is when you’re first starting out instead of going for the big lift kit right of the hit, try out a leveling kit. Rough country sells a pretty inexpensive 2.5” or 2.0” leveling kit, which will allow you to fit 33s and have them look right. I know you said you’re looking for 35s, which I’d be the first guy to tell you to go for it, but maybe especially with the V6 it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get some additional clearance for 33s with the leveling kit, try out some nice 33x12.5xR20s and you won’t hate yourself trying to move some heavy 35s with the V6. Then down the road if you want to go bigger, you can upgrade from there. A lot of people sell their used 33s on marketplace and Craigslist too. I think it’d be worth it because it’s safest to buy new tires, but here’s some good brands: Nitto, BFGoodrich, Toyo, Goodyear. Also check out customoffsets website, you should be able to put your truck into their website and see what it would look like with different wheel/tire combos. Hope this helps!
I got a 2013 Premium 5.0 for 18,000$ with 100,000 miles one of my dream cars 😍
What an absolute steal. The 4.6L kept me out of trouble… what color did you end up with?
Mustangs are the noise makers of the car world. Nice little car though
Thanks! Definitely trouble…
I got a 2013 5.0 noise and I’ll take you to grapple bees
Sounds and looks so good
Thanks man
@@backcountrybuilds hang on you only paid $12,500 for this? WHAT?!
Clean bro!! I’m trying to pick up a c6 this year just looking for that perfect one to pull the trigger
Be patient! Love me a C6… my mom actually has a C5 since I was a kid hahaa. I usually buy cars/Jeeps in stock form and put a ton of money into making them my own… turned out this GT CS was a turnkey version of the setup I was looking for. Best of luck!
@@backcountrybuilds oh snap a diamond in the ruff good find brother🤙🏻
How is maintenance and reliability?
Maintenance is not bad. Annoying to get the jack under a lowered car… gotta drive it up on blocks. Other than that, it’s like working on a loud Crown Vic.
🔥🔥
Sound is AMAZING 😮😮😮
I agree. Thanks for watching!
Lmao that's the exact amount i spent on my supercharged 2007 mustang gt-cs!
Daaaaang. How many miles?
Clean set up, sounds nice
Thanks!
Great video! I recently picked up a 2000 RM125 and I am definitely running rich. Lots of spooge. I am trying to lean it out and was wondering if loosening my air screw would help? Loosening it more would bring more air to my knowledge but was trying to see how much to loosen it? I'm in the midwest and it's been quite hot this summer. Any recommendations on number of turns?
Hi, thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed! I’d first try doing some research on injection oil ratios. I’ve always run 32:1, which is pretty rich, but I’d rather have some spooge than a smoked engine! Best of luck.
@@backcountrybuilds I run Amsoil Dominator at 32:1! Bottle recommendation is 50:1 while Suzuki recommends 32:1. Maybe less oil would help spooge?
@@Shooobe it’s a 2smoker, let her spooge!
@@backcountrybuilds you’re right lol. I’ll stop worrying about it. Thanks for the help!
Love it when you cover the speed
No speeding on this channel. That would be illegal. Thanks for watching!
Hej, what kind of exhaust muffler is this, it's sounds great 😮
Vance & Hines 1 into 2. Thanks for watching!
It would be worth more to go back stock
Not shopping for resale value! This project isn’t a flip by any means. Thanks for watching!
@@backcountrybuilds being a 138 car if you go back stock even without the original engine you would be able to recoup and money you spent and a fair amount of the labor. If it was a 69 year car then that would be a different story. Anyway have fun
Good clear explanation, thank you.
Thanks for watching!
I wonder if this is whats going on with my moms jeep. Runs like shit around 1k to 2/5 then once you step on it a little more it will smooth out till it sputters again just replaced a throttle sensor did nothing. now im leaning towards some kind of fuel issue, but now im thinking its just misfiring like a mf lol.
You might be right. How many miles on her? It was definitely worth the spark plugs and coil pack for peace of mind, too. Some guys say the injectors go bad at a certain mileage. Best of luck!
@@backcountrybuildsJust over 240k lol
@@LakeishaMorrow brandy new hahaha
@@backcountrybuilds oh yeah lol. That's what's got me pissed she actually runs like a top for a bout 3 minutes when you first start it up then it will feel almost like the tran slips and it will run real rough and won't accelerate right it just jerks till you give her some more and we'll I already said all that lol
Quick question if you have time, i have a Big Bear 400 4v4 2007, just trying to find where the "neutral" wire plugs in because my neutral light at times is difficult to come on and i think that might be a connection issue.
love your video
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed.
Looks great. I am getting my 2015 1500 lifted 6" this week and like your choice of tires and rims. What tires and rims are you using? All of this is so new to me, it's like learning a new language. At exactly 6:32. Those are 35's? Can you tell me what tires/rim size/name, any offset numbers and anything else I'd need to have that set up of tires and rims? I appreciate this. Thank you again.
6:32 those are 35x12.5xR20 Firestone Destination MTs. I’ve had three different tires on this truck since I bought it. First was Nitto Trail Grapplers, then Firestone Destination (couldn’t get the Trail Grapplers because of COVID), now I’ve got Nitto Ridge Grapplers. The Trail Grapplers are my favorite. They look and perform the best and last the longest but are far more expensive. Good luck with the install! My rims are factory Ram wheels from a black 2017 Tradesman. I have to run at least a 0.25” wheel shim to clear the wheels. I have opted to run 1.5” hub-centric wheel spacers to give it the stance/look I like. Hope this helps.
@@backcountrybuilds Perfect. I rewatched the video and wrote down all of that. I missed the tires thank you for telling me what they are. I am gonna look for the Grapplers. That you show side and front back profiles of the truck helps. It’s perfect. Thank you again. I appreciate your reply. I remember watching your video when I first bought my truck 6 months ago wondering about lifting, and now I’m deleting the air suspension and lifting your video came up first again. You helped me greatly with your info in the video. I’ll link a video when it’s complete to show the result. Cheers 🤝
Love this video just got basically this exact same truck.
Runs really good
Just looking at your build scares me. I just acquired a 1970 Chevy Chevelle Malibu. From the first and only Owner, she got it as a graduation present and handed it down to me now I’m really scared to even just take one bolt off from looking at your video because it’s been sitting for the last 30 years
Haha you’ll be fine! PB blaster…
Let it smoke, keeps mosquitoes away !
this happened to me, i Overfilled to the max, the oil was foaming and white smoking, also the filter for the air entry and the filter was pouring oil out, filter was full of oil, and now that i empty it, is no smell of gasoline in the oil removed, but now the exhaust pipe is leaking black oil when on.
Ok, sounds like if you follow this video you should be in good shape! First step, fill the oil to the proper level (safe line). Don’t be afraid to double check it! Make sure the mower is on a level surface. Also if you just ran the mower, wait a few minutes to let the oil seep back to give you a true reading of the oil level. Remove your air filter, since it’s likely oil clogged like you said! There’s a tube (PCV valve) that dumps excess oil back into the filter housing. It’s worth the $10 for a new air filter! Then, since it was overfilled, it likely clogged the spark plug with oil. Remove the spark plug, pull the pullcord until no more oil comes out. Then put in a new spark plug. Once you’ve got the oil clogged filter removed, oil to the correct safe zone level, oil out of the spark plug hole, and a fresh/clean spark plug, fire it up! It’ll probably smoke until the excess oil burns off, but after a few minutes you should be back in business and the smoke should stop. Once the smoke stops, let it sit for a couple minutes and recheck the oil level! Best of luck.
@@backcountrybuilds thanks I'll buy the spark plug today, but what to do with the black oil that appear to be burning inside in the piston, that black come from exhaust pipe
@@KarlsBerg87 it’s likely excess oil that made its way from the crankcase into the combustion chamber. With any luck after the oil is at the correct level, the heat of the motor should burn the excess oil out of the combustion chamber and the smoke should stop.
So? You put back the stock lights? Or stock looking?
Stock looking! Smoked lenses.
Year of plastics?
I believe they’re off the 09 as well!
I hear ya on the crotch rockets , lots of fun but scary as hell if you’re not careful, just a matter of when ya fall off lol, great seeing you’re doing good bud. Nice country side your at very cool.
That’s for sure. As always, thanks for watching. Definitely a beautiful spot to be at! Have a great day.
Ha I have a drywall and painting company,,the ice sculptures are insane
Dang 300 bucks😢I just paid 400 for some power valves
Hahaha that’s rough, but how it goes
What if I have gas in the lawnmower can I still tip the lawnmower over to drain the excess oil?
Some might spill out. A lot of times I find a plastic container to dump the gas from the gas tank into, then no spills. Best of luck! Reach out if you have any more questions.
Also auto parts stores might have a siphon for a couple bucks to make your life easier. Then throw it in your car in case you or a friend run out of gas in the future! Worth the money hahaha
Is there a way to drain the oil without tipping it over? I don’t want to risk getting gas into the other compartments or vise versa
Does anyone know what taillights he has? Brand and name?
The fastest I’ve gotten my 2000 big bear 400 is 54 mph 😏
Holy smokes
@@backcountrybuildsI rejetted my carb and have a racing muffler with a uni filter and just ride it like a crotch rocket
Appreciate the advice saved me some nagging 😂
Could over filling the oil also cause the cord to not pull? I put oil in it. It started smoking white so I shut it off and now the cord won’t pull 😅😮
Yes, it could cause that. I would take the spark plug wire off of the spark plug, drain the oil out (don’t start it without oil), put the proper amount of oil in - only up to the safe zone line, then with the spark plug out, pull the pull cord over like 20 times. It will feel super easy. Then get a new spark plug and it should fire right up. My fear is also it might’ve been run with too little oil, which can cause engine damage, overheating, and the engine to seize, hence the pull cord won’t work. Hope this helps. Best of luck!
I did initially put oil in it before running and it mowed the yard twice before I added more and the white smoke happened but since it was a used mower 😅 just hoping this is from my mess up and not a previous mess up.
@@amandaduncan6927 ok. I’d follow the instructions above and see what happens. You don’t happen to live in the greater New England area, right? I’d be happy to help hhaha
Got my payout from the dude who pulled out on me a month ago last week, and scooped a 2003 GSX600F with 11,000 on it. Previous owner didnt have much mechanical knowhow, so the carbs were gunked to hell, and the one before that had jetted it, and put a exhaust tip on, but failed to adjust the air/fuel ratio. Just wrapped up cleaning the carbs, adjusting the air/fuel and she runs like a dream, just cant find a choke cable, oh well. Wont need it for the summer. To anyone with maintenance woes, look up katana and playlists on youtube
i just finished a rebuild on my 98 750, the katriders forum is super helpful as well to have a textual reference and then youtube has most things although some of the videos are in spanish but still. Love my 750, the previous owner had done a rebuild on the carbs, stripping a whole lot of screws alot the way, but had the AF 3/4turn too lean along with inproper float heights and the works. Now shes running great, feeling great. Something bout the 90s style bikes just feel good. probably the whole shit ton of extra weight but idk
Thank you for this cuz I had no idea
Thank you for making this video! I'm a single female who made the mistake of putting too much oil in the lawn mower. Got it fixed and saved me some $$$ thank you 😊
Awesome! Power to you for getting it done. Best of luck and thanks for watching.
the gt/cs came with flowmaster mufflers, long tube headers and a k/n intake from the factory. i miss my 09.
Ahh. Honestly just learned something new. Thanks
My mother's mower was blowing smoke and the engine slowly died. I realized it was over filled w oil. I will drain the oil and replace the spark plug but is there a chance any mechanical damage such as oil hydro locking the engine or blowing piston rings?
Yes, chances are with extended periods of time with too much oil can cause catastrophic failure. But, drain it out, fill to proper height and hope for the best!
You can reach the adjustment bolts without removing the console. Just remove the gear indicator plate under the shifter handle and reach in with a ½" combination wrench.
Oh hell yeah thanks
So I just filled my oil, but I overfilled it in my lawnmower and now My oil that just added to the lawnmower is basically almost almost black and like I said it's brand new oil. I just had to overfilled it. It doesn't smell like gas.
Worst case, get it to the proper level in the safe zone between the lines, double check it to make sure it’s enough oil and not too much, then run it for 30 seconds or so, then drain it all oil and refill with new oil. In my opinion, Its worth the few dollars worth of oil for the peace of mind to just do another oil change.
@@backcountrybuilds OK thank you I was just worried because the color of the new oil that I had added was already dark brown when I drained it but thank
