Hi I'm Matt from the Manchester area (UK). I live in a town called Oldham just to the north of the city and really wanna get back into skateboarding.
The aim of this channel is to show my progress since getting back on a skateboard and push myself to learn. I also want to try and help others get into the sport, and hopefully meet some cool people who I can skate with and share the love of the sport with.
Your never too old to start or get back into it, so get that board out and keep on rolling :)

Shuvit on the bank to half cab onto the pad 🔥 park looks awesome!! Need to get a session there!
This is one of 2 skateparks near to Manchester Airport. I think the 2nd is better though so keep an eye out. Once the kids go bk to school we could hit both of them in one day if your up for it? They are both different kinds of skateparks but the 2nd one is just made for the older skater I feel.
Rad shuvit on the bank to half cab up the pad 👊🏻
👊 Cheers 🥂
When you are tired, then you are tired! 😀 Good battle!
I think if I would have just gone to the shop and got a drink then come bk I would have been fine but once I left I just couldn't be bothered going bk. Just lazy really and an excuse just to not really kickflip.
I started drooling as soon as you showed the little mani pad/ledge. That’s my favorite type of feature right now. 👍 That one looks perfect.
Its a perfect curb and the quarter just makes it even better as it adds an extra dimension to it.
Small world-I've just discovered the Howe Bridge park, then I watched your video on it ...and now this.I live 30 seconds away and must've just missed you skating Gatley yday!
I skated this place just before the school holidays started so it was a few weeks bk now. Its a cool little park just a shame you can't skate the pad from the long side so you can ollie up and try to stall the quarter. What did you make of Howe Bridge?
Cor I’d love to hit that quarter/pad thing 👊🤌
You smashed it mate, especially in that space. Love the variations on the steps at the end.
I was also thinking of a 180 off the fence when you do the foot plant but didn't really have time to try it. I was actually at my mum when I did this.
@@amskateboards The 180 out would be sweet, definitely give that a go.
Nice..! Enjoyed the video. Been fun watching you all give this a go. Thanks for sharing. Look forward to the next video (and challenge). (Still watching as commenting). That creative change was pretty neat.
Thanks, I would have liked to try a few other variations but I didn't really have time. I had to rush this really. I was at my mums house so didn't wanna b banging about too much.
Usually when I go to a skatepark, I usually will go for one section as well. I was a little skeptical of the mini ramp when you first started skating it, but as long as it's skateable and you get used to it like you said, that's all that matters.
Yeah the micro mini was not the best but it was still fun once you got used to it. This park is not the best but I' sure I will go bk in the winter for a session just as somewhere different to skate to mix it up.
I just worked on this too! The results were interesting. It’s also fascinating how we all approach this challenge somewhat differently. But that’s one of the great things about skateboarding. We do it our way. Nice work. 👊
Yeah I'm looking forward to everyone's attempts and to see what people come up with.
Mate... the down rail and stair set in your garden is an inline skaters dream. Shame there's a house in the way haha. Great work on the trick, you showed how odd it feels at first but then it clicks after a few attempts. Loved the cheeky variation too
This is my mum garden but I always thought this rail would be great when I was growing up. Then I realized how hard skateboarding is and I have no chance lol.
Awesome seeing you finally skate that place! Yes the mini is very whippy, that's why I call it the death ramp as it can really catch you off guard. It's also difficult to keep momentum on it. The ledge is frustratingly high... i love playing with those drops though and great work with the double ollie! Thanks for the shout out mate, would love to get a session here with you
Thanks, I think this will b a park for the winter. Defo get here for a session though. Got a few nice small parks coming up that I think you'd love and we should skate. The one in 2 weeks time is the main one though. Really small but amazing.
Nice one for getting the double Ollie Matt 👌🏻👊🏻
The main thing was having the guts to ollie a little faster on the first one so I could carry the speed into the second.
If anyone wants to participate in the trick challenge, the video can be found here. 😊 Rules and information are located in the video description 👍 ua-cam.com/video/W9dks0gPxU8/v-deo.html
Cant wait to see everyone's attempts.
You did really well! 💪The trick is both easier AND more difficult than one might expect. It can really feel quite awkward in the beginning. I love the creativity! 😀👍
Is it possible to kick up the board, but have it go 180 (so swap the nose and tail) before you grab it? Or, rotate it 360 (spin it after you grab it as you are setting it back down)? I always think shuve-its add a finesse/steeze to tricks. So, either of the rotations noted above might look neat. Anyhow, just a thought. It’s been fun watching everyone’s take. Look forward to seeing this compiled and finding new channels.
@@SkateTastrophe That sounds totally possible, but also more difficult imo. I can totally see myself trying that only to realise that the 180 motion sent my board rotating straight into my shin! 😂
@@fd_skate lol… cracked up. Yup. I’m arm-chair-quarterbacking your tricks. I have no idea what I’m talking about. =) Lol.
@@SkateTastrophe Hey, I don't know anything. 😁Your idea could be totally awesome! 💯
I think this could be a great variation of the trick. My other thought was to do a 180 with my body when kicking off the fence.
Love the creativity with the stairs I might have to give it a go!
If you can caveman and are comfortable riding switch then its an easy trick but if you can't do them I would recommend getting the caveman and switch riding down first.
@@amskateboards I have been working on the caveman but negative on the switch I just barely learned to ride regular, I guess I should give switch pushing a try, just to see where I am at!
Like the ‘to tail’ addition. I enjoyed learning this and its trickier than it looks 🤘🏻
I don't think I've ever seen a skatepark actually INSIDE a leisure centre. Very interesting for sure. And the layout looks like a ton of fun. Lots of good-looking transition!
Until I skated with dad leisure skateboarding I hadn't either. This is the second one I have been too now. The Deeside skatepark earlier in the season was also in a leisure centre.
@@amskateboards haha that's why they call me Dad Leisure 😆 Deeside was great too but personally I think I prefer it here
Well done with the ollies. That's a scary trick (super non ironic) 😊
Yes the Ollie might be the most basic of basic tricks but it is still one of the scariest as well.
I would skate that mini ramp all day. Looks beautiful
I could have done as well and thats why I didn't have long to skate the street section.
Woop woop
👊👍
Love Howe Bridge. Did you speak to Rob (who I saw in the background)? He's a cool guy. Happy to go down and skate with you if you fancy some company?
I only said Hi to the other guy skating nothing much else. He was in the bowl a lot of the time and I stayed away from the bowl. As for grabbing a session together that sounds great just have to wait until after the school holidays though. I don't have a lot of free time while ,the kids are off.
@@amskateboards I'm a teacher so kind of the opposite for me! Will definitely go there a bunch in Winter for sure. I'm at Graystones Mondays and Thursdays so much prefer Howe as a change of scenery on the weekends.
The micro looks super fun,
It was. Its a bit strange at first but after a couple of tricks you soon get used to it.
Nice little. Frontside Ollie 👳👳🏿👳 on the bank + the double 👍 - yes go back
Thanks. I think I will go bk once the school holidays are over.
Park looks real nice I enjoy an indoor, it’s been years since I visited one
Its only small but its still good. I do prefer outdoor parks though, but being in northern England indoor parks are a must and there are not too many near by ones. This is probably the next closest 1 to me after Graystones.
It's not easy to skate when it's too warm! Still a good session!
I just want all funny all of a sudden but I was fine later on that day.
Always phone Howe Bridge up first b4 you go. They sometimes shut the skatepark or have private hires in there during the open times.
Yeah its a bit stupid how they say no need to book just turn up then when you do the park is not open for some stupid reason.
Great commitment to the Fakie big spin! You looked mega ill mate hope you are ok! Enjoyed the freestyle tricks I've never seen that from you
Don't really do freestyle much that is about as good as it gets. I can do primo/rail stand as well but nothing else. As for the illness I'm fine. It was really strange just came out of nowhere but luckily it didn't least long.
Hope your feeling better mate, that Fakie bigspin was fire 🔥
Thanks, I'm fine now. It cleared up right away really was just a quick thing out of nowhere.
Yeah I can tell I have a long way to go! You wouldn’t catch me trying to even Ollie over that nasty crack! Lol!
I think you'd be able to Ollie over that. Your Ollies have improved loads.
@@amskateboards Thanks maybe that’s my problem I need more confidence in myself!
@@VintageSk8 I have that same issue. There is a lot more I could do if I just believe in my own ability more.
Manual pad a couple of curbs and some wax is all you really need!
Yeah curbs are one of the best things to skate.
Carparks are the best little skate spits Kerbs 👳🏿 ledges👳 good shit 👳🏿
Yeah can't beat a nice carpark. Even better if its covered like this one is.
Ah screw it, car park sessions are free and often better!
Carparks are cool to skate and make you get a little more creative. A good skatepark still edges it though I think. Its just finding that good skatepark that is the issue.
Great idea, a lot more carparks than skateparks
Maybe new series after I'm done with the skateparks 😛
When I do 50-50s it's like I get close to the ledge pop an ollie to where I don't overshoot the ledge and when I ollie I shift my board a little bit to lock in parallel. It's probably better felt than explained though. The carves and turns you did on the transition were not bad. You were keeping your speed to a decent extent.
I don't know what it is with the 50:50 one day I get them and I'm fine with them then the next I just can't lock in for the life of me. Maybe its because I try them on different ledges/curbs all the time and I should just try and find one place and do them there till I land them 100% of the time.
@@amskateboards I feel you on that man. I was practicing Axle stalls on the same mini ramp and quarter pipes. I had my front side so consistently on time. Then I went back to go for another session to try it again, and I just couldn't lock in.
Glad you managed to get a backup plan in place after the Howe Bridge disaster. I thought the 5050s were good, looks like my perfect ledge!
Yeah managed to get a little session in here. Would have liked longer but at least it was something. That ledge is really good just wish I had my wax with me.
The little ledge where you’re working on the 50-50 is such a dream. I would skate that all day.
The ledge was defo the best bit about this park.
I like the Intro. I have been going back to fixing my 5050. My first year of skateboarding, that is all I did. But then I stopped and messed them up. Trying to fix them and manuals. Things I had but didn't stick with. Skateboarding 🛹. Stay Rad Sir.
I feel like that right now as well. There are tricks I feel I have just been going backwards at, 50:50 is defo one.
@@amskateboards 💯
Shnail
🤘😛
Nice looking park, is that a little ollieable gap between the 2 small banks behind the rail at the beginning? I clocked the 5 set then noticed the huge bottom step/ pad 😮😂 seems to have something for most people there, enjoyed your edit 🤘🏻
Yeah its an ok park I wish I had little more time there to skate it. This was a little bit of a rushed video this week. I kept looking at the kicker set up with the gap, I just didn't get time to try it. I was thinking of maybe dropping down off one and then a quick ollie up into the 2nd if I could get my feet set up in time for it.
I'd be interested in trying that park, it looks really good... but 2.5 hours is a bit much. Having said that I do enjoy travelling and exploring new parks. It's just over an hour for me so maybe I will get there soon! We need to get more sessions together, the last road trip was awesome!
In a car its a lot shorter of a trip. It was only that long because I was traveling by tram, train and foot. We defo need to go and get some more session together. Shame I don't get more Tuesdays off.
Half cabs up banks are really challening for me. Well done! Half cab over hip is soo scary!
I feel more comfortable doing an half cab than an ollie which is strange I know.
The Shuv on that steep bank you did was sick mate. It looks like a cool park personally, but your right 5 hours is a lot of time to travel and I’d feel I’d need something pretty special at the end of it.
In a car it wouldn't take as long, so if somebody was going with me who drove I'd defo go again. I wouldn't travel up there by tram and train again though. It was an ok park but nothing super.
Enjoyed watching this, park looked pretty decent but I’m pretty lazy with regards to travelling to skate nowadays. The pad/ block that run along the top of the back and down the side looked like it could be fun ✌🏻
Yeah it was a good park but it didn't really have anything stand out that made it worth the long trip. If this park was closer I'd be there a lot but with it being that far away I don't I'll be bk.
@@amskateboards, yer I get that completely. I’m due to meet up with some old 90’s skater mates in Milton Keynes next Sunday for an annual meet up skate which will take 4 hours each way whether I drive or get the train from Devon to Paddington then Euston to MK 😳
Looks like a decent park props to you for making the trip down there
Yeah it was decent but not great, for that reason I thing this is a one off.
Nice Fakie big spin on the bank. 👍 It looks like an interesting park. Some good variety there.
It was a nice park and had most things you would need but didn't have that something special that made it stand out.
I really do need to put more effort into progressing as I'm getting old lol I'm only 40min away from Clitheroe so I might give it a shot in the morning if it's not pishin it down 👍
Good luck with the weather its always raining lol. I would say if it does ever stop raining its worth a 40 min drive. Its nothing superb or stand out but its good and has most things you would want.
Almost any park you go too is better than my local Altho it is new its classed as a wheel park not a skatepark and is aimed more towards anything that's not a skateboard You have been to it last year i think. if you're an advanced skater it would be good for you but as a beginner it's not. Centre Vale Park And yes this park looks great and we'll worth the travel I'm going to Leeds in a couple weeks as I do deliveries there and pass there skatepark Looks great so get there early and hopefully get some quiet time to practice a bit.
Centre Vale is not a bad park but I do thing when you see other parks you always feel they seem better just becasue they are something different. Clitheroe is defo no good for beginners, all the ramps are big.
It looks like a good park. It has everything needed. Worth the trip, probably. I would travel to that park if there was one or two obstacles that I really wanted to skate. Maybe that is the flat bar for you. For me it would be the big box Manny pad with the drop off. The other side to the trip is that you have a few better parks closer. So I guess it has to be about what you want to skate.
I think you are spot on. If the right obstacle is there then its worth the travel. For me I would say this park is worth the journey in a car as it cuts it in half but I don't think I would travel by tram and train again.
@@amskateboards there were a lot of parks like that in Korea. Train vs driving is a factor.
Clitheroe is a classic park I haven't been in over 10 years though. Watching your videos over the last few weeks has been super helpful as Glossop park is my local but I work from Oldham / Chadderton. I had a trip to Chadderton & Shaw last week & had a great day. That Manny pad & hip at Shaw is ace need to go back there soon Hit me up let's go skate!
The hip at fitton hill skatepark is far better than shaw as it lines up nicely with the ramps unlike shaw. The best park in the area though (even if it is a little bit further out) is balderstone. It over towards rochdale but if you have time to go there I would highly recommend.
It looks good . Especially that big bowl. Surley there must ne subscribers that could help you out with transport. Also go skating together. Nice video
There is a guy who has a channel called dad leisure skateboarding who I have skated with before and he drives. The only issue is he is only free on Tuesdays and I'm not always free then.
