Haunted Tales of Darkness - Read by Chris Halton
Romania
Приєднався 24 лют 2024
Hi there! My name is Chris Halton, and my main enjoyment is to share and entertain with ghost stories and mysteries from the classic writers of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, plus those stories I have written myself. I am also a documentary maker and narrate all of my work. I hope you enjoy the current selection of stories, with many more on the way and, hopefully, at least two every week. I have previously worked on BBC local radio and enjoyed a career as a police officer with experience as a detective and intelligence officer. I now reside in the Făgăraş mountains' quiet foothills in Transylvania, allowing me to write and narrate. I do hope you'll be a new subscriber and will check back regularly for new readings from the pens of the master writers as well as my own.
August Heat by W.F.Harvey (a premonition of death)
"August Heat" by W.F. Harvey was first published in 1910 as part of his anthology "Midnight House and Other Tales"
It is a classic short story that revolves around an eerie and unsettling encounter between two men, James Clarence Withencroft and Charles Atkinson. The story masterfully builds suspense as Withencroft, an artist, draws a sketch of a man he has never met, only to later encounter that very man, Atkinson, who happens to be a stonemason engraving a headstone with Withencroft's name and date of death.

Excellent as always 🫡
Wow, fresh off the press copyrighted 2025
Another excellent story, loved the plot and architectural references, all very creative and creepy 😮, many thanks Chris 😊 tf
Today, a short story by W.F.Harvey to allow me sufficent time to complete a new story for publication in a couple of days.
The intro is well done and sets the expectation perfectly.
Thank you!
I`ll write another tale tomorrow. 😀
Very excellent unique plot, satisfying character development, perfect amount of concise description of environment & atmosphere. Narration with perfect tempo, pauses, emphasis & volume. Overall better than 18th & 19th century writers
Thank you, Elizabeth. I wondered how well this story will do, and you have answered my concerns. Really appreciated. I will write another this week.
You have the right mix of every element requisite for a gripping story. And I do mean gripping! Have you read a Christmas ghost story simply entitled “The Horror” about a young girl who rapidly ages overnight when encountering a ghost in her bedroom. Ruined by the interminable contemplative rumination by the main character…. Too much introspection & speculation but very little action.
I have to say, I haven`t. I believe that crafting an enjoyable story requires a strong imagination and the ability to go with the flow. When I write, I always immerse myself in the story, and I don't start with a specific plot in mind; I simply let the story develop more organically. Some writers tend to pad out their stories, which detracts from the pace and can prevent a satisfying conclusion.
Very good story . You should write a book containing your short stories. 😊❤
Thanks, Sylvia, really appreciated. Thank you! When I collect another stories I will
Abusive alcoholics rarely get what's coming to them....

Thanks for listening, thank you!
Excellent story! And you are an excellent writer. Thank you for a real treat!
Wow, thank you! Really appreciated, Kathy. 🙂
It's a wonderful story, Chris. Great job, as always. I enjoyed the inclusion of the man writing on parchment at the very beginning. Thank you.♥
Glad you enjoyed it, Lorraine! I`m pleased you like the new intro. 🤗
Lovely, but TOO many ads. I won't continue listening. . .
I have no control over the ads, and they appear on all story channels.
Excellent story. Written in the style of M.R. James, E.F. Benson, LeFanu and the other early authors of classic English ghost stories.
Wow! I am truly honoured to be compared to these literary masters. Another story on Saturday night. Many thanks!
❤❤❤
Thank you, Kristina!
Thank you Chris for another great tale.
My pleasure as always, Kari. Really appreciated as always!
Your new story was really enjoyable, it was well put together, the brothers characters were well defined and the narrative flowed naturally. What is also incredible that you wrote this quickly over Christmas....wonderful. Many thanks and look forward to your 2025 video...Happy New year to you and family...tf
I'm glad you enjoyed it! As a rule, I can write a story in two days. I start without a storyline and let my imagination take over. Happy New Year!

My pleasure, Donna. I enjoyed this story too!
First, I have to comment on how pleased I was to discover a real, human narrator. The narration was superb. Secondly, the story was well written, interesting, and unfolded as a quality period piece. Quite enjoyable. Thank you.
Thank you! I really appreciate the feedback. Another story on Sat night!
GOOD STORY, GOOD ENDING. HAPPY NEW YEAR☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Thankyou, Barbara! Another story from me Sat night.
Just a brief note to letting you kow that I will be not posting here for a couple of days as I intend to write another period ghost story which I hope wil be published by the latest of Friday.

I recognise that music from an Album by Yoko Ono.
It must only be similar as the music is copyrighted by a guy in Ukraine.
This is wonderful channel! 🤩🤩🤩
You are so kind. Happy New Year. 🙂
Great story, Chris. Very well done, and thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it, Lorraine, Happy New Year! 🙂
I listened to the entire story before I realized that you wrote it-I listen to a lot of classic ghost stories and I assumed this was one! It’s very well structured and while listening I felt like I was watching a movie in my head. The characters of the two brothers are clearly defined and the contrast between them gives an enjoyable tension to the narrative. 👍👍
Thank you, Donna. Your comments on my writing are deeply appreciated.
I so love the new story. You my dear friend are a fantastic storyteller. Happy New Year.
