@@Xyspade Yes, this fan was made in a time when common sense was more common and people were smarter and didn't sue over stupid stuff lol. Yes, spindown time is poor measurement of motor health, it's often the fans with new bearings that are tighter and have shorter spin downs and fans with really worn bearings that have long ones. This was one of those cases: worn bearings mean excessive clearance and a little less friction so it coasted for forever. Thanks for Watching!

@@AmeriFanPicker Nope, aside from the dead spots this thing starts and runs like a more modern shaded pole motor would- no start switches, just select a speed and it goes! It's not a super super dark green, definitely lighter than GEs green with the AOUs, maybe it's the lighting or your computer screen making it look darker. I actually quite like the color, but apparently it's not original. Whoever did it definitely did it a long time ago and did a very nice job with it! Not sure about Japan or not, I'll have to ask Rob! Yeah this is one I just haven't gotten around to yet. Hell yeah! I'm the same way! I might only be in my 20's but I miss the days when things were built to last and be serviced. Well it's the combination of cooperate greed and people always wanting the latest greatest new shiny piece of crap product and having no interest in doing any form of maintenance on anything. I do strongly believe that if we stopped this behavior the world would be much better off for many reasons.... Ohh well, sadly the only thing you can really do is boycott the throw away society and repair, use, and preserve the old stuff! Thanks for Watching!

@ You’re very wise for your age, and not just because I agree with you 😂. I only started really getting into vintage items after finding this really cool radio cabinet from the 1940’s - it had this fold out record player, and tiny flip up lid for the volume and stations. It was in rough shape cosmetically, but built very solid (I didn’t even want to use it as a radio anyway) so I ended up gutting, and refinishing it (probably the first time I’ve ever used tools, and was well into my 30’s) then turned it into an entertainment center for a bit, but now I think I want to turn it into some kind of jukebox/audio player with a computer (only because my old stereo setup is too big to fit inside). The only thing is that I’m not handy at all, but for some reason I’m pretty good at refinishing wood furniture, and ended up doing a few projects since that. I’ll tell you one thing, old sewing machines make pretty awesome desks/tables (There are specific ones, I think it’s called a “parlor sewing machine cabinet” where the machine slides straight down into the body of the cabinet, it’s just really cool, and you can find people giving them away every once in a while. Nice to meet you BTW! Oh, and I just tried to take apart my old fan (which is how I found your video) but It might be too advanced for me, I had no idea about the complex wiring or how difficult it would be to even get apart, but the biggest thing that stopped me from going forward was that the thing is caked in grease! You probably said it in the video, but what’s a good first step for getting it off? like spray the whole thing down with some cleaner, or something else? thanks bud.

No they are in fact extremely worn out. The guides are incredibly worn so there's lots of lateral play meaning they don't seat the way they should and the valve seats and surfaces are also pretty worn based on how the valves seat. If it were any other engine in my collection all that stuff would get fixed but again this one is purely a neat display piece because of the conversion I did to it

It was a simpler way to make it into a hit and miss engine that didn't require extensive machining and modification. Makes for quite a show piece too! People can never figure out how I did it LOL!

Well with my engines I always completely tear them down and completely rebuild them before running them. Oftentimes there are plenty that people had been running and the crank pins are worn way undersize and the rods are worn way oversize, the bores are tapered and out of round, and the rings have massive gaps. Sure they might run ok but I just like to go through them and make them right. That's where the fun in it is for me and also I don't want to worry about having them be difficult to start or beating themselves to death internally when running. This engine is really the only one I have that I know is super worn out and run anyways because I made it into a hit and miss engine and run it as a display piece.

Not it was actually from a Waterbury walk behind tractor, not a David Bradley. As far as I know DB only used the larger number series engines like the 14 and 19 on their tractors. Thanks for Watching!

Yeah mine vibrates a little too sometimes. I'd start by checking that the blades are in clock and balanced and that the rubber bushing that holds them on the shaft is still good. If that's not it I'd pull the thing apart and replace the thrust washers and also oil the bearings / regrease the gear box while you are in there. Hope this helps! Thanks for Watching!

Ohh yeah there are definitely shows near by! Hell, if you are in North East Ohio you are probably not too too far from Coolspring Power Museum which is the biggest gas engine museum in the world and hosts some of the best shows you can go to! I went there for an entire week and still didn't see everything! Not sure about anything else in those locations because I'm from the New England area but if you start asking around on some of the engine groups you will find some for sure!

@@colin_5839 I have a 1946 Briggs ZZP that's mounted to a generator that I'm currently messing around with. I noticed with the valve cover off and by turning the engine over by hand the valves rotate. My guess for leaded gas? All I know these ole relics hate this California gas. I had to mix a tad of diesel for mine to run smooth. Don't know if this lead substitute works. If not I'll be hitting up a buddy that works at a private airport for some leaded av gas. And mix it half and half. Either way sounds bitching. Gotta love that Briggs lope.
