      Hi Richard, thanks for your comments & thanks for watching my video! I get more fun from pushing myself than making life easy! I also prefer running in the mountains, and the first few days on the Pennine Way are more countryside (with lots of fields and styles). So, as I could not make the challenge about being self-sufficient it would have just turned into a countryside run (albeit a beautiful one); and that's why I decided to call it a day.

    Yo, I can't belive the distance you covered in these two videos great effort!. I'm doing the Pennine way solo this year in July. Plan is 13 days to a potential 2 rest days. making use of campsites and a around 5 wild camps along the journey. About 10 years ago I attempted it with my dad but we abandoned after the second day as he got severely dehydrated and had to get the ambulance out after he passed out into his own dinner in a pub. Spent half the night at a&e whilst dad was on a drip getting rehydrated and then at 2am after hospital kicked us out we had to find somewhere to sleep. Ended up sleeping in a asda carpark, untill it opened lol fantastic unforgettable holiday! cant wait to attempt it again

    Which sleeping pad was that? In the video you said Thermarest i think,but when i looked at the lighterpack it says it's a Lighttour. Is the Lighttour the one that has like a built in pillow? How comfortable is it for you?

    • @TravelTrekRun
      @TravelTrekRun Рік тому

      It was an old 3/4 length thermarest sleeping pad (514g) in the video, but I have since changed it. I now use a cheap Light Tour pad (295g) from Aliexpress (www.aliexpress.com/item/4001223973136.html). It packs down really small, it's probably not the best quality but for spring, summer and autumn adventures I love it. At £25 / $30 it's an affordable option. Only used it about 10 nights but so far so good!

    Why "kilometres?" We use "miles." Maybe you could use miles on your next attempt, and show "Kilometres" on screen for none UK watchers? Just a thought. I'm not trying to be "passive aggressive," and wish you well, pun intended, in your next attempt. A little advice, take in more fats, and not sugars, and or carbs, that will just give you spikes and troughs. NOT medical advise. 👍😎👍m-E-m

      Thanks for your comments. I use Km's as that's the grid squares on topographical maps here in the UK (both Ordnance Survey & Harveys) they are 1km by 1km. I'll try to use miles as well...I'm already trying to remember to use M / Ft for my heights. My diet is a work in progress and always has been!

    🤔 Having never been to UK, I'm confused as to the cost of entry. The entrance fee was listed as "3 pounds", but three pounds of what? Three pounds of gold, 3lbs of platinum, or 3lbs of plutonium? Can it be 3lbs of anything? I just purchased 3lbs of bologna, will that suffice? If only Britain had a standard monetary system, instead of expecting people to carry around "pounds" of random stuff like plutonium and bologna to barter with..... Sheesh! (Lol) Seriously though, this is a beautiful place. I recall recently watching a video about a group of inexperienced and poorly outfitted hikers becoming overwhelmed by a winter storm in this area, and some of them perishing as a result. That was at least 10-20+ years ago as I recall. Always come prepared, and carry updated physical maps. Don't rely on your smartphone for your guidance, because it may suffer some sort of failure or catastrophic damage that renders it inoperable. Always tell friends or family where you're going, and let them know what basic route you plan on taking, so that it'll be easier to find you if something goes wrong.

      Thanks for your comments. Just to clarify, that '3 pounds' is £3, - three pounds sterling , the currency in the UK, although they would surely accept 3 lbs of gold as well!

    Excellent video that brings back many great memories of days spent in the Cairngorms. I've walked this route a few times in all weathers - usually on the same day!! LOL BTW, the P in Ptarmigan is silent

      Thanks for your comments, glad you enjoyed it. I was more concerned about trying to say 'Stob Coire An t-Sneachda' correctly, overlooked 'Ptarmigan'!
