Digital portrait made with just one brush!
very interesting! id like to do something like this
beautifull work as usual, keep it up <3 !!
Magnifique Merci beaucoup🤩🤩
silly question, but do you use different types of pencils for the sketch or just stick with one? (like different HB graphite pencils)
I just stick with the one because the blackwing pencils are pretty versatile! if I was using a pencil set I would normally go with a 2b - maybe a h for the initial sketch and a higher grade like 4b for the super darks. you can do a lot with pressure though 😄
Amo que subas el video con la pista en español, me impresionó y me encantó❤
so beautiful! i loved seeing your drawing process
INGRES!! THANK YOU!! Excellent work like always, I enjoyed watching!
haha thanks! and thanks for sharing the idea 😄
❤❤
I think your lady is more believably human than the original. Fair play to Ingres though - his textiles are astonishing. I do have a suggestion for another study actually, which might tempt you. That's Augustus John's portrait of Wyndham Lewis (an etching), and there's a good image on Christie's website. Many thanks for another fascinating video.
thankyou! and thanks for the suggestion I’ll take a look. I love etchings but have never tried a study of one 😄
Hello. Are you using the same pencil hardness from start to finish?
hi! yes I am - the blackwing matte pencil 👍
Wonderful Study as always!
thank you!
Great job capturing those sculptural facial features!
thankyou!
Beautiful drawing . I greatly admire how much you can capture while working so small .
Thank you so much 😀
The sketch, your gentle voice and the explanation is amazing! Love your content so much!!!!
Glad you enjoy it!
I honestly love your art, could you make a video about how to use oil paints for beginers? Im wanting to try out oil paint but i do not know where to start!
thanks! sure I’ll add to the list 😄
I absolutely love your Chanel. I am also a portrait artist and you encourage me to draw daily now. I have a Wyoming: what type of paper you enjoy sketching on? Smooth/acid free or sketch paper? Thx
thankyou! that’s nice to hear 😄 I use my moleskine art sketchbook - paper is smooth, ivory-colored, 165 g/m², acid-free paper. it’s actually almost a little too smooth - I like the tiniest bit of tooth on my paper. still hunting for the perfect sketchbook 😅
I’ve enjoyed several other of your videos, however, I I’m not very interested in the digital side. Thanks for sharing other media and techniques that reaches more of your fans. 🫵🏽💯
I just found your channel a few weeks ago and really love it. I’m trying to discipline myself to draw in a small sketchbook daily and your videos really help!
I love your pencil, what is it called? Oh, and I forgot to say, this video and all your other videos (I just discovered your channel) have given me endless amounts of inspiration and direction, you are a blessing!
@@dianah7044 it’s a blackwing! and thankyou 😄
@katiemaeveart thank you! :)
Rembrandt, the famous painter of the Baroque period. You drew it so beautifuly.
I’m so confused. I just got procreate and I’m brand new to digital art. I go to my pencils to try and start a drawing and it’s in blue? I go to charcoal and it’s red? Whatever I do, it’s some different color. I watch a tutorial and no one else has this problem. They just choose a pencil and start drawing and bobs your uncle?
Very tallented 🙌
I love that you drew Michael Fassbender, I’ve always loved making drawings of him back in college, he has beautiful features, like those old sculptures we see at museums 💯
Great work!
Plz make some tutorial how to measure drawing
I wolud like that too...
sure! let me see what I can do - overdue an exercise video so if this would help I’ll look into it 😄
I enjoyed the tutorial and seeing at the conclusion how you had caught the likeness really well . However , can you , please , drop the funereal organ background music - it’s not just distracting, it’s depressing !
glad you enjoyed. I ran a poll on the music and the majority vote was to keep the music as is. I hope you appreciate it’s impossible to please everyone. I’m still hunting for royalty free background music that’s more on the relaxing but upbeat side so fingers crossed next one will be less depressing for you!
I saw you on TV!!!
😄🙋♀️
Wonderful video as always! Did you mention Stephen Bauman when you were talking about modelling? I'd like to know about the teaching you referenced.
Ah yes - let me add it to the links in the description. You can check out @stephenbaumanartwork on instagram - he's got a patreon called block in bootcamp I found super helpful.
Please, draw the painting Young GIirl or Another Portrait of a Girl (1640, The Metropolitan Museum of Art), by DIego Velazquez. (the greatest exponent of realism in painting, he surpassed Rubens and van Dick in the mastery of light and anatomy) She is a girl with subtle makeup, black eyes, and short black hair, posing sideways and wearing a cream dress, but only in profile size.
thanks for the suggestion! I'll add it to the list :)
Ooh you used my sugestion to draw a self portrait of Rembrandt. It turned out awesome. I must have drawn this one at least 10 times before but never had anything remote as good as yours. 😅 Now I am really in the mood to draw him in this reference again.
Thanks for the suggestion - it was not easy 😂! Yes do it!
What a wonderful video
Thank you very much!
Your style of editing videos and just showing the way you work genuinely cures my anxiety, I cannot explain it really. They are so comforting to watch imo. Keep up the great work! <33
I have a loose guess as to why people are falling in love with unfinished sketches. I feel like people are more exposed to the process of how art is created, and it feels demystified in a sense. So people are falling in love with the different techniques used to make a sketch, and it’s easier to see that when it’s unpolished. Personally, when I see a sargent sketch I am enamored by the gestural anatomical accuracy and composition. Seeing that is easier in charcoal than in a painting.
Hi Katie, thanks for another great drawing video. If you're curious about the rough texture of the drawing - I believe he acheived this in part by drawing on rice paper (possibly en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xuan_paper?). Would make for a cool experiment!
ooh interesting! thanks for sharing the knowledge I’ll do some investigating 😄
Really enjoyed this tutorial, beautiful subject and expertly handled - but , please turn off the dreadful , mournful piano accompaniment !
aargh no! I love the mournful piano music. I appreciate people might not have the same taste in music and I have tendency to reuse the same tracks because of digital rights - I shall put it to a public poll . Thanks for the feedback Patrick! 😄👍🏻
Making notes on my phone, including pictures of a few key stages throughout the drawing. See Katie put her pencil down, so I think "ah she must be finished, I will take a picture showing the final result :)". She picks up the pencil and adds more detail. "No problem, I will delete and retake :)". Katie picks up her pencil again...hol up.
@@notgaryoldman1178 😂😂😂 it’s never finished! (I just stop filming eventually 😂)
So insightful to see your sketching process, thank you Katie 🙏Hope to see more vids like this
I love following along with you and strive to get the accuracy you get❤ thank you so much for your videos. Do you have any advice on mark making , for example pencil type and pressure? At the end of my piece it always seems too dark. I have a heavy hand I think.
@@Idahadleyart thankyou ! Which pencil do you use? Generally one option is to draw lightly and take your time to build up tone with layers of tones laid in with gentle pressure - it takes a while to build up the control but you will get there. Another option - if you use pencils with various grades - is to start with a 2h/h pencil and move up the pencil grades as you build up tones - ending with 4b only for the really dark areas. That can have some good effects. Last option would be to knock the drawing back if you feel that it’s too dark by rolling over it with a kneaded eraser- that can help with too heavy graphite. Good luck!
I would love to see a landscape sketching video
very nice video thank you
Thanks for share your knowledge! Hola desde Mexico ❤
Great copy , good tutorial, but I am not convinced the original subject of this painting is a woman .
thanks! I think you’re right there - another poster spotted some info in the description of the painting that suggests that the site I found that provided more info on the painting may have been trolling me 😂 I’m probably going to unlist the video in sheer embarrassment in a week or so 😂😂
Impressive achievement-congratulations!
Btw the shadowing is awesome
thankyou!
My jaw literally dropped, what a beautiful piece of art
The wiki article link you give in the “description “ shows your reference photo is of a male model.
ah interesting - I don’t see that on my iPad - only that it’s tagged as lady - I did a bit of an internet hunt and a website I found claimed it as a study of Henry’s wife. it would explain the masculine aspects if it was in fact a male model 😂 either way - beautiful painting
There are two terms: Guys and Gals. But the word 'guys' has been adopted to include both genders. Of the two terms, why has GUYS been adopted? Why not 'gals' ? The answer is that there is a higher societal value to being male than there is to being female. Why are males bothered when addressed as 'gals' but females are assumed not to be bothered when addressed as 'guys' ? Why are women allowed to dress like men, but men cannot dress like women ? Why can women adopt men's names but men can't adopt women's names? There is a higher societal value to being male than there is to being female. It's SEXISM in speech and writing. Drop "Guys". The word ''Folks'' is better. Try it.
Great video! 6:25 I have a similar “issue” where i don’t quite have other skills to describe skin besides those scratchy lines you speak about
Thanks! I think hatching and raking marks they can look quite effective - they just take a while to get to the level of skill where you can control them well enough. I’m definitely a work in progress! Dave Malen is a contemporary artists I can think of who has such good control there - also Hollis Dunlap. The former more illustrative, the latter more painterly. Check them out! Still working on my control on that front 😂
