    • @ATLASMoto

      Bottom Kit as long as you're not using Honda Heated grips! If you have the Honda heated grips, roll with the Top Kit. You need 3mm in between the grip and throttle housing for the ATLAS to fit.

      It does work with a variety of non-rubber grips, including Kuryakyn ISO grips! You'll want to check out this video about that. ua-cam.com/video/6MVl8LCKDNA/v-deo.html They are tight, however the metal portion of the grip can be pried over to make more space. 2015 Yamaha MT07. I don't have a throttle tube "stopper arm" it's just a straight tube. Any fixed for this? I just clamped it down on the tube and it doesn't hold place. Especially at a good speed.

    What's the big difference with cheap knockoffs? Since it's just friction neither one really seems dangerous, just push the throttle closed again

    • @ATLASMoto
      @ATLASMoto 2 місяці тому

      Cheap knockoffs are just that. They are made from inferior metals and they knowingly violate our patent. They are an illegal copy and we ask riders not to support them. We've obtained a few of them and they are silly junk. And yes, the ATLAS is a friction and pressure system, so you can still use the throttle as needed. Close it in an emergency, or roll on throttle to speed up.

    I am puzzled because to install cruise control on my bike will cost me £200 and to buy the Atlas £124…🤔

    • @ATLASMoto
      @ATLASMoto 2 місяці тому

      That would definitely depend on the motorcycle. Some bikes may have a factory option available that can be added on (usually expensive) and some bikes may be able to use an aftermarket electronic cruise (usually finicky and not plug and play). The majority of motorcycles will be well suited with a throttle lock setup like the ATLAS.

    Wait! You didn't answer the question! What do you actually do if you don't have the clearance between the throttle body and the the grip flange when your grip is glued down. Now what? Send it back? If I have to do this it's gonna suck! I needed a solution for my planned trip in less than 3 days! It took a week to get it!

    • @ATLASMoto
      @ATLASMoto 2 місяці тому

      It depends on the bike and grip, but if you just have rubber grips glued to a standard throttle tube, these can often be pulled back to make more room. That is to say, you pull on the rubber grip flange to roll it back, install the ATLAS, and roll the grip back into place. You could also use a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the glue, and then slip over the entire grip. You can reach out to our install guru at info@atlasmoto.com, and he will help you with any issues you have with installs!

    • @mikesbikechannel4387
      @mikesbikechannel4387 2 місяці тому

      @ATLASMoto I was able to fit the kit in spite of the lack of clearance. After I tightened the included screw all the way in to a "reasonable" torque, I was able to then back the screw out until the throttle was free floating. This seemed to work without obstructing the throttle free play. Now to test it on an actual ride in a couple of days as the weather clears. One suggestion, the weight of the unit is substantial to the point of slightly slowing the torsional rotation of the throttle return. While that, in and of itself, is not inherently dangerous, you may consider lightening the unit by using aluminum instead of steel.

    • @ATLASMoto
      @ATLASMoto 2 місяці тому

      Sounds like you got it installed ok! It is possible to over tighten the bolt and pinch the throttle tube, but backing off the bolt in tiny increments until the throttle frees up is indeed the solution for that. The ATLAS does add a few ounces to the throttle tube and thus does slightly slow throttle return. We haven't found this to be a major issue, but have considered an aluminum build.

    these instructions are ridiculous. Previous version didn't have a trillion steps

    • @ATLASMoto
      @ATLASMoto 4 місяці тому

      That's because this version is intended to be more comprehensive. Previous versions of the installation video did not consider throttle housing types that are commonly run into, though we have some videos for specific motorcycles that point out special considerations. Many riders won't have to consider throttle housing types because their throttle housing is flat or otherwise doesn't have special characteristics, but many riders also have throttle housings with beveled sections and other such things, so we're trying to cover more bases by providing more knowledge. The actual installation is simple, but setting up the friction pad for some of the throttle housing types takes a bit of consideration and that's what we're trying to cover here. Hope that helps!

      Let us know if you need any assistance! You can reach out to us at info@atlasmoto.com. Bottom Kit or Top Kit. If no heated grips, we recommend the Bottom Kit. With OEM heated grips, the Top Kit is needed (note the OEM heated grips are often tight), and with aftermarket heated grips, you can usually install the grips the way you want to, so choose the ATLAS kit that mounts opposite of the heated grip wire (Bottom Kit if wire is up top, Top Kit if wire is on bottom).

    I've got an earlier model with different friction pads. The current pads I'm using don't work for more than a couple hours of use before they start slipping. It's a 2016 CB500X and the example you show in the video would be "B". There is maybe 1/8" of the pad that makes contact, and it takes a very thin pad. Will the new friction pads work with the older units? I want to like this thing, and when it works the way it's supposed to, I do, but it never works the way it's supposed to for very long. I have a bottom mount and it makes my throttle stick as my 2022 GSXS1000 has a very small gap between the throttle housing and my grip barely enough for the atlas to fit , anyway installed like this but when you turn the throttle it doesn't fully release when you let go like it did prior to install making it very dangerous as throttle sticks on just slightly on my bike. Have you got any advice to ensure the lock stays attached to the lip it's tightened to without slipping off - towards the centre if the handlebar and down into the lower part of the tube? So I struggled with this as well, what I ended up doing was using the extra friction pads as a wedge keeping the throttle lock snug to the grip flange while I was securing it.

    I have no throttoe housing or handle bar buttons, so nothing for the friction pad to rub against..... and I dont like that it rotates with the throttle. On full throttle the buttons will be facing foreward allmost where you are unable to reach them...

      @ATLASMoto Рік тому

      It rotates with the throttle so that the buttons will always be in a spot where you"re comfortable activating it with your thumb. You won't be using it at full throttle, either. It's a cruise assist, and you won't be cruising at WOT.

      @@ATLASMoto ´fair point. But sadly I still can't use it on my handlebars Since there is no surface for the friction pad to rub against.... I think I will have to design and 3d print something myself... Haven't been able to find other alternatives... thinking about something like a round clamp on the handle bar, and then a ziptie style clamp with buttons to tighten and release grip on the throttle handle itself......

    Wish it was stayed in fixed position. Moving with throttle makes it look cheap.

    • @ATLASMoto
      @ATLASMoto Рік тому

      Moving with the throttle keeps the installation simple and keeps the buttons in reach of your thumb. It rides on the throttle tube and so will rotate with the throttle. To have it in a fixed position, it would have to mount to the throttle housing and would be an invasive and time consuming install, plus the buttons wouldn't as easily be reached with the thumb when it's time to engage it.

    I followed instructions and there are two things that must be achieved when installing this style throttle lock. 1. Is it must be tight enough as to not to slip on the throttle tube without binding the tube on the handlebar. 2. The grip must provide enough backing as to not let the throttle lock push over when applied. I suppose if you could tighten the lock around the tube tight enough without binding the throttle to the handlebar then grip backing may not be necessary? This product does not work on my Road Star as intended, if I could find a metal replacement sleeve or thicker plastic one I think it would.

    • @ATLASMoto
      @ATLASMoto Рік тому

      The ATLAS needs to be tight enough on the tube so as not to slip, but when installed properly it does not need a grip flange to support it. When installing, make sure to insert the front section of the clamp arm first, then insert the rear ratcheting portion only 2 clicks. Thread the bolt in max two turns and pull the front tab of the clamping arm against the bottom of the bolt head, then ratchet the clamping arm until all the way tight. Finally, tighten the bolt until the ATLAS is firm on the tube, but not so tight that the tube is pinched. Following the steps appropriately helps to seat the teeth and prevent overtightening or wobbling issues. Reach out to us at info@atlasthrottlelock.com for help with the Road Star!

    The chrome portion of the grip has almost NOTHING to do with there not being enough room for simple installation. The black plastic grip INSIDE the chrome grip is where the Atlas locks down, and almost sticks with NO pad. With the #1 pad, actuating the lock flexes the whole throttle lock out because there is no room. The bike throttle needs disassembled, the black inside portion of the grip face shaved, to move the Atlas a little more outboard of the throttle housing. I bought the Atlas for my XVS1300T specifically because of this video. Just spent an hour in the heat, sweating my balls off, trying to get the Atlas installed correctly, and will have to modify the grip to do so.

    • @ATLASMoto
      @ATLASMoto Рік тому

      The chrome flange needs to be moved over for the ATLAS to fit. The chrome flange "floats" on the tube and is being held in place by the rubber portion of the grip. The ATLAS will not fit and function in between the space where the chrome flange and throttle housing are. without moving the chrome flange. No disassembly of the throttle is required. We did Americade in New York just a few weeks ago and installed the ATLAS on multiple bikes with this exact throttle setup, and have been installing them on these bikes for years. Just pull on the rubber portion of the grip to get it away from the chrome flange so the flange will move. The exposed section of the tube under the chrome flange is perfect for the ATLAS with the #2 friction pad. We were installing the ATLAS on these bikes in 3 minutes.

      This is an old video. The new friction pads have only been out for a month, and due to editing issues they were released ahead of the new video, which is releasing soon. The new, black pads are a slip on design as opposed to a stick on design. Their usage is covered in the instructions you received. If you have a plastic throttle tube then tightening the adjustment on the throttle lock so it will hold it may cause your throttle not to return to the idle position. These work best with metal throttle tubes...

    • @ATLASMoto
      @ATLASMoto Рік тому

      The ATLAS works great with metal throttle tubes, but also is not generally an issue with plastic tubes when the ATLAS is properly installed. Per the instructions, you need to have the ratcheting portion of the clamping arm as tight as possible by hand before tightening the mounting bolt, and just until the unit is firm on the tube. If you do not follow this important step, which helps seat the teeth properly, it is easy to overtighten and pinch the tube. If you have issues with the installation, reach out to us at info@atlasthrottlelock.com!

    It depends entirely on friction against the block to the left of the throttlegrip. Barely any of it engages that block on many bikes and it won't work on lots of bikes reliably like a Honda cb300ra. Had to use it and a bar-end lock combined to get it to work.

    • @ATLASMoto
      @ATLASMoto Рік тому

      The new friction pad we recently released helps to fix this issue. Most bikes work reliably with the old friction pad design, but the new friction pad design works even better, especially for bikes where the full surface of the pad is not in contact with the housing. The new pad retrofits to all 2 button ATLAS Throttle Lock. www.atlasthrottlelock.com/collections/parts-for-your-atlas-throttle-lock/products/atlas-hardware-pack

      @David Winters only an 1/8th of an inch was touching at most and we tried increasing the size of the friction pad with shims. The whole mechanism would angle when engaging the lock, reducing the friction. If we could have put shims between the device and the grip to force it to stay vertical it might have solved the issue. It would push right at the top when engaging the device and we installed it really tight. I just bought these so we should have the latest pads. At $155ea, another $40 to fix it seems odd. Send me the pads and I'll update the review, otherwise, sending them both back.

    If there isn’t the correct rubber size & your TL slips because of vibration/ not enough friction put a piece of skateboard grip tape on your throttle housing. The TL rubber won’t slip. You’re welcome.
