I know this might sound insane, but there are certain applications where using foot switches on stage can be the wrong move! In performances where click tracks are used, it's more beneficial to pre-program all of your preset, scene, and effect switching to create a seamless and consistent playing experience- especially where moving about the stage is a must.
This may not be the "everyday" gig scenario, but harnessing this powerful technology can increase your professionalism and performing ability!

    Hey man, got my FM3 today, and this is the first video I'm on post-acquistion (cheers!). I followed every step however, and I'm running into three issues. I was hoping you could maybe help me? 1. For some reason i cant get USB 3/4 control to effect my FM3 level (it's just controlled by what ever position my physical level 2 output knob is set to). 2. Guitar level is also SUPER loud, i have it barely over zero and it's cranked hard! What am i missing here?! God I feel like such dummy.. appreciate your help!!

    I wish the body on my strandberg was heavier. It’s very ergonomic, but I feel like I alway have to keep my forearm pressed tight to the body to keep the guitar from moving around while playing. Mine is 5 lbs 5oz. I wish it was more like 6.5lbs.

      As to what I liked I thought in short test examples A was the best, B was the second favourite and C was the worst. In the end pieces the walking bass one sounded best with C and the second bluesy one sounded best with B.

      Another thing B sounded the least compressed, A - a bit more compressed and C was the most compressed.

    Non of those 5 things are annoying🤷🏽 You need to adapt to a unique guitar like the Strandbergs! What I think of your 5 annoying things lol👇🏼 1.This is my favorite part of a Strandberg headless guitar not been common. If Someone told me not to play my own pay instrument, I wont play, period! 2.Invisible Headstock(lol) if you look online you will find wall hanger made for Strandbergs and it hang from the invisible head stock. I own two of them and zero issues with those hangers. 3.Intonation on most Headless are the same . How often do you have to set intonation? An if you do its easy if you know what you doing etc. 4. Get a non tremolo Strandberg if its too hard for you to tune it! 5.Use the correct wireless for that specific guitar. I can send you the link of the wireless I use. Its very thing so when you fold it to the back of the guitar you wont feel a thing!!

    Why is your buffer size 512? Isn't that high for recording?

    • @mathew_dale
      @mathew_dale 10 днів тому

      Depends on a few factors. I don't monitor through the DAW (hardware monitoring) so latency isn't an issue and buffer size isn't a big factor in my set up.

    • @michaelklym7043
      @michaelklym7043 10 днів тому

      @mathew_dale I see, thank you for replying. I have one follow-up question that im trying to find an answer to. If I'm monitoring through the FM9, playing along to an audio track in my DAW while recording the fm9 guitar output to a new track, won't the recorded guitar track be slightly delayed compared to the monitored performance because of the buffer size? I ask because I want the recording to be the exact same as the performance I monitored from the fm9.

    • @mathew_dale
      @mathew_dale 8 днів тому

      @@michaelklym7043 It's not something I'd stress over. Try recording and if it seems not to sync, try a smaller buffer size. We're probably taking the sub 10ms of latency with a decent machine. I'm typically about 7ms or so depending on the size of my session. There's a latency meter in the bottom left of S1 you can get a reading of where your are at. Hope this helps!

    Headless guitars are definitely on my richest and Sternberg is one of them. I can see an advantage getting on and off public transport much easier. Also I'm border on board a plane and store it above your head in the cabin in the locker above your head. Also, if you went camping, you could take it with you on the hilltop or on the beach or by the side of a lake or river. If you're having a walkout somewhere, take it with you with pair of headphones or even earbuds plugged into a small effects processor. Hopefully with a looper explore improvise to enhance content. God bless 🙏

    I have a legitimate question. IR should be a representation of the cab. So why do we need low and high cuts added? Makes zero sense . I know it to be true because i use a helix but if the ir cab sim is accurate shouldn’t it naturally have the cuts perfect . Isn’t that the point

    • @mathew_dale
      @mathew_dale 20 днів тому

      Fair question. Keep in mind that an IR isn't simply a "cab emulation." The microphone used in capture plays a huge part. Mics are dumb and don't know what they are listening to or how they should sound. So all the filtering we are doing on the lows and highs would be very similar to what I would put on a channel strip mic'ing a guitar cab. Last live sound gig I ran a high pass at about 200hz on the mic'd cab so he would fit in the mix better.

    Hey, I set this up in studio one for my FM3 after watching your last video on DAW control. I am a studio one user also. I tried to future proof myself, and used up all the CC numbers for everything I could think of on the FM3. I was annoyed that after all that work, studio one didn’t save any of my midi commands. I assumed it would as my FM3 still shows up as an external instrument, but all the midi commands are set back to the studio one default. Is there a way for studio one to retain my CC’s I’ve already added in another project?

    Thank you. Finally a video that has practical tips. I will be playing at the end of this winter and next spring thru a direct pedal board with a Boss IR2 or 200 probably just for my amp and cab tones and then use dual delays and micro pitch from an eventide in the loop. A boost in front of the Boss IR2 or 200 and maybe a chorus and compressor and my morley wah as well and thats about it. I also was thinking about an eq or two just to tone dowm the extra frequncies that the frfr or PA systems can produce that a real amp cant and cut those out, but your tips here are great. Thanks so much man. Where I will be playing amps are either not allowed or it is required that one uses very low stage volume. So, an amp is pretty much out of the the question. Thanks man. Tim...

    Did you try Laney LFR-112? I use it with Quad Cortex but recently, after update on QC, I've noticed that I don't like my overdrive/distortion solo tone even with Neural DSP plugins and I can't dial good inspiring tone for rehearsal/live gig situation via Laney LFR-112 while I'm totally satisfied with my sound via studio monitors at home (at lower volume). Is QSC better than Laney for guitar modelers?

  • @Zwidawurzn
    @Zwidawurzn 28 днів тому

    Hah, the last point is a good one! People and especially guitar players are often kinda narrow minded when it comes to guitar gear, acting like you have to play rockabilly or country on a Gretsch and with a hi-gain amp there's only metal possible, and there's no way anyone could ever plug a Gretsch into a higain amp. I gladly play metal with my Duesenberg Caribou and i also play psychedelic with my 7-string baritone LTD, just because it works since i sort of know what i'm doing and watching people's reaction is fun. I'm totally in the market for a Strandberg, thanks for pointing out the annoying stuff!

    Matt, I can' thank you enough. I was not having much luck finding great tone until I downloaded your Fractal Favorite Amps and Cabs Guide. I can't believe what a difference it made. Cutting through all the factory presets was not getting me there, but your suggestion of presets, some settings and IR's had made the difference between my returning the FM9 vs. keeping it. Aside from the quality of your information shared, I enjoy your demeanor, you present clearly and offer relevant info. Thanks so much. Suscribed.
