1000 Subscribers Special (& face reveal I guess)
I wanted to make this video for some time but I had to delay it a couple of times due to some unexpected library releases and my general hesitation towards talking to a camera. I wanted this 1k subscribers special to actually feel "special", which is why I went with a different presentation style for this one. That said, if you'd rather have me talk to you than reading the text I put on screen, please let me know in the comments! I might do this more often in the future, hopefully with a better camera :)

Due to the nature of my workflow it usually takes quite a bit of time until an orchestral mockup actually sounds somewhat useable. In this video I'm breaking down my workflow for creating orchestral mockups, starting from scratch and ending up with an excerpt from "The Jedi Steps and Finale" after about 30 hours of work.

Exploring the softer side of Beaufort Brass
Переглядів 4023 місяці тому
Orchestral Tools' new brass library was specifically designed for loud brass fanfares. However, the library also includes legato and some features to help with lower dynamics (e.g. modelled soft dynamics and a "niente"-feature that lets you fade to silence without using CC11). This brings up the question: How well do these features work and how flexible is Beaufort Brass really? Can it only do ...
Tone Comparison: ARO Celli and Basses vs Legendary Low Strings

I made a tone comparison video for the 1st and 2nd Violins from Abbey Road Orchestra Symphonic Strings vs Soaring High Strings, so I thought it would only make sense to make another one for the Celli and Basses vs Legendary Low Strings. ARO Symphonic Strings: Basses - dynamic range test

ARO Symphonic Strings: 1st vs 2nd Violins tone comparison

Regarding the Lyrical Legato of the 2nd Violins: There currently seems to be an issue with the volume of the transitions. The midi I used for the example was the same as for the 1st Violins and the settings for both patches were identical, so this is not user error. Spitfire Symphony Orchestra: testing the updated timing for shorts

    • @c-c-laurin-lenschow
      @c-c-laurin-lenschow 2 місяці тому

      There are several reasons why it may be useful to have them recorded together, though if you don't have other options (meaning individual ensembles of Cellos and Basses) it's very limiting of course. However, they clearly explain in the marketing material that the library doesn't feature individual recordings of Cellos of Basses, so if this is such a dealkbreaker to you, why did you buy it?

I use 3 layers (sometimes with more than one soloist per section) for my string mockups: Spitfire Symphonic, Chamber, and Solo Strings. •  3 місяці тому

    At first glance: - The staccato articulation on the AR Orchestra for both Celli and Double Basses has a wider array of dynamics, and has a more smooth transition between forte and piano. In comparison, the Legendary Low Strings goes straight from forte to piano, without dynamic layers in between (that's a guess as A) I don't have it; B) You can't peek inside the patches to see how they work). It's specially obvious when you play a soft note shortly after a louder note (1:22), when the decay of the louder note deafens the sound of the following softer note. - When using the Performance Legato, the note transitions differ between the celli and the basses, so they aren't perfectly in sync (as is expected considering the sections were recorded separately). When you stack both celli and basses, and they play a melody in octaves, it's a bit distracting. As LLS was recorded in-situ, the transitions, in that aspect, sound more natural.

    Can you please make a video with comparison of this basses library with ARO 1 Low Strings - I often use ARO 1 lows to add some spice to my low end of the mix

      Do you mean a comparison of ARO Basses with the lowest notes of the low strings ensemble from Abbey Road One Orchestral Foundations or a comparison of ARO Celli and Basses with Legendary Low Strings? (I'm currently working on the latter, because it makes sense as a companion to my ARO 1st & 2nd Violins vs Soaring High Strings comparison.)

      @@c-c-laurin-lenschowI mean Abbey Road Orchestra Basses VS Abbey Road One Foundations lowest note of the low strings 😊 Main library, not an additional one

      @@cherrysound I think this is a bit too specific to warrant a video, even for my channel. However, I just had a brief look at it and here's my takeaway: The tone of the Basses and AROOF's lowest octave isn't too different. However, you get a bit more grit on the highest dynamics when using the Abbey Road Orchestra Basses, and of course much more control and different articulations. Aside from that the patch from AROOF has the Celli coming in as soon as you go beyond that bottom octave, and you may not always want that.

    Soundwise they both sound similar, but the issue with the legato bumps in V2 makes it stand out. It's incredible what Spitfire achieved with a 49€ lib in Soaring High Strings. The only place where I can see that V1 & V2 AROSS (playing together) can outshine Soaring is in the medium speed legato phrases at softer dynamics.
