    Hmmm... An odd movie -- since BUSHWICK was only made a few years before. BUSHWICK has a couple breakaway states taking on NYC to force a treaty. It was definitely a rightwing army, and what they forget is that though NYC really DOES have stringent gun laws, nobody obeys them so they run into more small arms and ammo fire than anywhere else. Worth searching around for because it came in, made a small splash in a few places, then dropped off the map. So far no one has drawn a line from that small movie to this more expensive one. Even though Dave (DUNE) Bautista shows up in BUSHWICK. The question to me: CIVIL WAR is a very similar movie, made right after BUSHWICK dropped off the map -- I think BUSHWICK came in 2017 so by '20, Garland would have known it would be forgotten by the time his came out. Civil WAR actually has some of BUSHWICK 's weaknesses -- it has somewhat indifferent characters and a weak plot also. At the same time the "enemy" is a bit vague in both too. CIVIL WAR has the advantage of a budget that tries to do justice to an idea, even if the idea is fuzzy. Right now, politics aside, Americans are stuck with a system they don't care much for but know that changing will cause a huge dislocation that would be WORSE than a war. Both CIVIL WAR and BUSHWICK should be seen as two interesting, if unsatisfying, attempts to look past where we are to where we MIGHT be if the wheels come off the wagon. A good way to see the present "stuck in gear" mode as the calm before... whatever comes next

    The sound editing was Oscar worthy. A bomb goes off. Then 2 minutes of post concussive absolute silence. And the Jesse Plemons "What kind of American are you" scene steals the movie.

    This movie is terrible. My God the young and dumb are so naive. The story sucked, the fighting scenes from a tribe destroying the technology advanced from some lasers that appeared out of nowhere. Flat chested 4 out of 10 Zendaya is terrible and ugly with that Nappy ass hair.

    • @Connor8609
      @Connor8609 2 місяці тому

      It's the opposite of a fortune cookie message. This movie literally tells you don't take the leap of faith, don't fall for the superficial small windows these 2 "soul mates " have into eachothers lives.They idealized eachother, because that's easy because of their undeniable chemistry. It preaches a pretty opposite view to the typical fairlytale.

    I want to let you know that "The Boy and the Heron" is not the real name of the movie... The actual name is "How Do You Live," one of Miyazaki's favorite movies that inspired the film. It is also a famous Japanese novel that many Japanese read in childhood. I think many people do not know the novel, so it makes more sense to translate the movie's name into "The Boy and the Heron."

    It's funny. From the comments of several reviewers, seems like modern audiences are uncomfortable with close ups. Some even feel it as an invasion of personal space. Anime is full of extreme close ups, to the point that they make close ups of a titillating light on a pupil, or a single tear. This style originated in part from the restrictions of the limited animation and the resolution that standard definition used to have; old TV sets were small. However, I believe that it is also and effective technique to convey more intimacy with the actors and their feelings. I think it is a must if you are translating anime. Those of us who lived the transition form SD to HD, and to 4K are not bothered at all. It is even refreshing.

    • @AkahigeNoAmo
      @AkahigeNoAmo 8 місяців тому

      even though I experienced the transition(SD-HD), I didn't really care much about it, or paid attention rather... anyways, I never actually noticed it until I heard a reactor, or a OP tuber (I think Merphy Napier first iirc) mention it.... I personally look at it, now that I am aware, as a manga/anime reference and, more importantly, a distinct style for the show... and hopefully the keep using/doing it going forward

    Nice overall review. I agree with most of your points. I just want to mention that the soundtrack was amazing as well. This was my first exposure to One Piece, though I have watched some anime as a kid and a teen. I found it to be very fun and refreshing so I read the first 100 chapters of the manga and they were also pretty fun. I don't want to spoil myself too much for the TV series so I will probably leave it at that for now.
