I'm a piste-only skier who recently got into freestyle, looking for a Ski that would let me ski on groomers & be playful with it (switch/small jumps). Thinking the 1.0 is a reasonable choice?

Carbon and fiberglass require significantly different core thicknesses, and carbon in particular needs additional vibrational dampening. It's like asking why cars aren't all built out of aluminum, (or carbon fiber) you can do it, but it isn't necessarily better.

Yeah thanks, this is the most long-form video we attempted when we had the business and I learned a lot from it. Would like to do more at some point, have been mulling bringing the channel back in some form and maybe eventually the shop as well. A lot of comments on this vid are valid, and honestly I should have included a "recommendations" section...while I think this kit is decent for someone just starting out and learning to tune at home, there are definitely other kits that can "grow with" your tuning skills a lot better. Whenever I have a chance to expand my home tuning setup, I'm going to do all of that thru RaceWax...

lol I mean we didn't sell these things and I shouted out 2 different alternative vendors for better kits right at the beginning of the video...we just reviewed it because it's the most popular complete kit out there...

Not really comparable, they are pretty different skis. Allplays lean towards park, and chetlers are more of a all mountain-powder ski

@@OrangeSoda42 one of my least favorite skis I’ve demo’d, but could have been a bad tune? Anyway, pulled the trigger on 181cm Masterblasters and couldn’t be happier - one of the best skis I’ve ever been on

@@lorenroot4640 how do they feel at that size? Do they feel like they ski smaller than that? I’m debating which size for me. I’m pretty close to your size 6’3” 190+ and I’m looking for something everyday playful on the East coast.

@@NPow94 honestly they sort of blow my mind. Really one of the more damp and stable skis I've ever been on at this length. Prior to the Masterblasters, I would have said the Brahma 88's @ 180cm were the most damp, but these MB's not only surpass them, they add in the fun factor with the deeper rocker profile. So you can not only lay them over and carve trenches, but you can shut it down or pivot almost instantly. Admittedly it takes a bit to get used to skiing a touch more centered, but once you find that sweet spot, they're truly remarkable. I've also had them in boot-deep super light fluff (Alta), as well as 12"+ chop (also Alta), and both were handled with ease. I honestly think I'll get the 187's next season, though, just to up the speed limit that much more. Not sure I've answered your question, but I'll try and sum up with how I would approach it: if you're a strong skier that skis at least 50% groomers, then I'd probably opt for the 187cm. I rarely hit above 45mph, and for me the 181cm handles those speeds no problem. I also spend more than half my time off-piste, and I really like the maneuverability of the 181's. But at your size, if you're a strong skier, I think you'll be able to maneuver the 187's just as easily is my guess. If you're not looking to go mach speed all the time, ski a lot of bumps and trees, then I'd probably recommend the 181's. Hope that helps!

Everyone's needs are different. I bought this kit way before I really knew how to tune so I've made a lot of changes to it. It's an ok starting point but if I were buying a whole new tuning setup today I'd definitely get a different one.

Less grippy and springy than camber, have to work harder to keep it on edge and under control, generally less power than a ski with camber unless you get a super stiff one, but even then they suffer from a less responsive "feel". Generally flat camber can be good for real soft conditions but we don't typically recommend a full flat camber ski as an all mountain daily because they're just not as good in firm snow, period.

Ok just one more. Really? You said - "You can't damaged or dull your edges with a Gummy Stone." THATS A MAIN REASON FOR THE GUMMY STONE. YOU CAN TAKE IT UP ON THE MOUNTAIN IN THE LITTLE POUCH THEY CAN COME IN. Then you use it to dull your edges. If you may want a little less bite for butter slides on a snowboard or skis (yes they do). Or use it for burrs, so you don't get hung up on a park rails. Beginners it can be good so they don't catch an edge as easy. (Just a few examples) come on kid?

I've always used a purpose built scraper sharpener or some kind of bench grinder to keep scrapers sharp. I guess you could use the bastard file for this but it seems like it would be a pain in the ass to free-hand it in that way. Anyway my main point is that I've seen a lot of people try to use the bastard files included in these kits on their edges without a file holder, and I just wanted to warn people not to try that. If I said anything contradicting myself I apologize, we don't use scripts when we make these videos and sometimes I'll accidentally step on my own points.

@@avantalpine8075 it was just funny. You said. "Or some kind of file" right after you had the file in your hand. And whoever you got that file holder from. I bet that's what they used it for. People who buy thoes kits generally don't have a bench grinder. And it's not that hard to take off 1/16' or less off of some plastic with a file. Keeping it at a 90 angle takes a little finesse but is still not hard. Your all good. Just funny.

@@ck2t528 Yeah they include one in this kit, I think that's my biggest issue. It's basically an invitation for novice tuners to fuck something up on their skis. I'll try using it to sharpen a scraper soon and see if I can get into that. Before I had a scraper sharpener I just used a piece of scrap 2x4 wrapped in sandpaper. And I missed your comment about gummy stones. The harder ones will take an edge down a bit, but if you use a soft or medium density stone they really don't round it off at all, so those are good for polishing surface rust between tunes. I think I mentioned this in the video but honestly haven't watched it in a while...I know I made that distinction in one take but it may have gotten cut out.

@@avantalpine8075 Yeah i agree , when some people say to me they just tuned their skis or board and bragged they did it themselves , I ask what did they use , and yip they say oh yeah just a steel file. Yip scraper sharpener is way easier than using the file
