Goncharov (Theatrical Trailer, 1973)
I downloaded this trailer from a P2P site back in the mid-2000s. I couldn't see it elsewhere on UA-cam, so I thought I'd upload it. Despite the crummy 2000s frame rate, the quality of this underrated masterpiece still shines through. God bless Martin Scorsese and Matteo JWHJ 0715.

'The Secret History' - Donna Tartt trailer
Переглядів 23 тис.2 роки тому
A concept trailer for what a film adaptation of Donna Tartt's The Secret History might look like. I've made this by editing together bits of other movies, such as; 'The Childhood Of A Leader' (Brady Corbet, 2015) 'Phantom Thread' (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2018) 'The Double' (Richard Ayoade, 2013) 'Kicking and Screaming' (Noah Baumbach, 1995) 'The Souvenir' (Joanna Hogg, 2019) 'Twelve Monkeys' (Ter...

Martin Scorsese, Mark Kermode, Brad Bird and Thelma Schoonmaker give a spoiler-free introduction to Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's 1946 masterpiece A Matter Of Life And Death, a supernatural wartime romance about a British pilot who survives jumping from his plane without a parachute before falling in love with an American radio-operator. The film stars David Niven, Kim Hunter, Richard...

Personally, I didn't think it was a great film (it was a bit irritating in fact) until towards the end when the case came before the court. Then it made you think. I can't agree that it is one of the greatest films of all time, but I can agree that it makes you think.

Some genuinely great films here, but one criticism I'd make is that there were far too few non English language films for my taste.

How I adore Michael and Emeric, but "A Matter of Life and Death" is not a favorite, although it is stunning and wonderful.

I first saw this on WPIX as a little girl and the effect was profound. I believed every bit of it; I got nauseous with happiness that people would create something so beautiful (same thing happened the first time I heard Pachelbel's Canon in D); it made me grateful. And thank YOU for posting this appreciation.

Has anyone seen the frosty interview between Cybil Shepherd and Barry Norman from film 73? Awkward but super funny. "So Miss Shepherd, what's it like being the bird in the middle?" That question did not go down well! lol

I saw this as a child, six? No more than seven. I dreamed of it the same night in particular of the statues. Now I'm writing up the dream using parts of the film for my Autobiography. As my mother died in 44 when I was two & a half the story of the film made such an impression on me.

Absolutely love this movie. Amazing cast; Marius Goring is a riot. Not for all tastes, but if you're willing to stick with it, it's an incredible story of love, loss, and rebirth.

Noticed a weird familial connection between some of the films used here. Both 'The Souvenier' and 'The Double' feature actress Lydia Fox. 'The Double' also features Lydia's father James Fox, whose brother Edward appears in 'Accident'. Edward's son Freddie also appears in 'The Riot Club'.

My favorite part was when goncharov said to sovetskaya "stand proud sovetskaya, you were strong, but I alone am the honored one who left it all behind in my oberwhelming intensity" Then goncharov'ed all over the place. Truly a revolutionizing moment in cinema history. Pure kino. Tenoí

Now i want to see this film. And what it is selling it to me is the appearance of Cybill Sheppard. She was such a good actress who always got the wrong end if the stick. Well, it seems to exist, but other people say it doesn't.

This is a fabulously heart-rending yet heart warming film. I saw it many years ago on television. It was part way through but I became entranced and watched it to the end. It was years before it was repeated. But when it was, I pounced on the opportunity to see the whole story. I was even more wrapped up in it the second time. Years later in a retro shop, I found the DVD. Of course I bought it. I try to encourage younger people to watch it. To let it nudge their subconscious towards a more positive outlook. To perhaps assist them to value life. You see heaven is in black and white while the living world is in colour. Maybe there's a reason for that?
