Man this makes me so sad. I broke up with my boyfriend just last month after about a year of dating because he was “uncomfortable” being just with me. I love this topic and I’m so happy to see women my age that are like-minded speaking about bringing class back. I honestly grew up with two caregivers that unfortunately just weren’t compatible. It wasn’t a very loving household. But I’m so grateful the woman in the house made it a big deal to teach me how to conduct myself. Even though at different times in my 20s I strayed or I see that just some men (even as friends) just give off this vibe or aura like “classy isn’t fun” or “classy is fake” or being modest or classy is “boring”. I’ve even had peers (women) energetically try to get me to join in on carrying ourselves without class. This made me feel so SEEN & was just the reminder that I was perfectly fine in my 20s for having a level of modesty, grace & class. I even remember when I was still wearing tights with my dresses at 22 I got flamed for it by friends but real men complemented me on it. I just still didn’t understand it or that I was dimming my own light to be accepted in my own family or social groups. Looking back I know was absolutely right for not giving in to just being rachet or lacking in modesty. And I understand in hindsight now that seriously any women/homegirls or men who don’t value couth, humanity & class just aren’t my people. Not platonically or romantically & not for networking hardly either. And that’s ok. I’m agnostic and queer but even I agree with most of your points. If only sexual education was better understood and distributed… I didn’t learn my own anatomy until I was already sexually active. Even if you take away the religious lenses coming from a Catholic, this over-sexualization issue is still a problem. It saddens me that this is the world my sibling will grow up in. I am 19, almost 20, and I have never had a partner, not because I don't want one, but because I want to focus on my studies, and take my time on choosing who I want to involve myself with.
