Man went to police and didn't get any help??? No shock there! #PoliceAreTheBiggestOrganisedCrimeGangInTheWorld.
I think, like all great films, it doesn’t actually take a side. It simply presents the full reality of the situation and asks the audience to decide.
1st film could have used Marty Feldman, 'twould appear
@@sidharper7927 Ha! I couldn’t help but think about him myself.
Great episode! I got the Vinegar Syndrome 4k of The Horrible Dr. Hitchcock. I thought it was alright but like you I didn't realize it was about necrophilia. I would have never guessed that. I missed you saying, it has an audio commentary, which I did not listen to. Anyway, Great info!
@@michaelthemovieattic Ha! Good catch, I forgot to disrespect the audio commentary. 😏
Unique films ! Weird stuff! Great reviews
Donovan s brain is not exactly horror, but has a medical slant.
Really to tell you the truth the original vigilante film at least the one that was the most popular and started a trend in movies was Dirty Harry. That's exactly where death wish came from and a lot of others TV and movies.
Good point and great film, but he was a cop of course and not a private citizen.
@@thekazdoyclosetwithjerryka1013 I realized that. However that doesn't make any difference rather he was a cop or a civilian because he was breaking all of the rules that police are supposed to abide by just to get his man or men. That my friend is a vigilante no matter what kind of clothes he's wearing. That was the first time this had ever been done in a movie hence all of the controversy when it came out. It was really a masterpiece that should have won an Oscar for Clint Eastwood Andy Robinson and the movie. However due to a lot of the Liberals outrage over the movie that just wasn't possible.
Ngl thought you were Techmoan's second channel or something for a second there.
I’m not familiar with Techmoan, but welcome aboard!
J. T. Walsh is usually the most interesting character in the movies.
I'll always remember how baffled I was watching 'History of the World Part I', every joke was just so easy and predictable to me. Halfway through I went "If THIS happens, I'm stopping it" and I did. It was a chore to finish. I know what makes me laugh and Mel Brooks just isn't it, sorry not sorry.
An obsession of John Waters that I was unaware of until recently is Tennessee Williams, whose 'Memoirs' Waters wrote a preface for.
I didn’t know about that. File it along with his obsession about the Manson family.
Death Vengeance on VHS. I remember an old woman getting her finger cut off with pliers 😲
@@paulconway384 Yes, same movie. It was the last straw for the main character.
Have not seen that, intrigued, thanks Jerry.
@@pete49327 It was a total blind buy for me.
Sounds good ! I must have missed this one in 1982
Interesting☀🌲
Think I’ll give this one a shot. I’ve been eyeing it for some time. Thanks for the review!
This film has the the highly sought after Atomic Rockets Seal of Approval.* *I have no idea if the Atomic Rocket Seal of Approval is highly sought after.
😆
(1) Is it true Bob Dylan got arrested for loitering in front of a camera in Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid? (2) Wally George was performance art IMHO. It was the WWE of political talk shows.
I don’t know about that Dylan story, but I’m shocked someone else remembers Wally George. He actually once brought his show to a local college, so a bunch of us went to watch the festivities.
My Criterion of Gilliam"s BRAZIL freezes as well. Tried on 2 machines. I think it has to do with the layer change. Or maybe part of Gilliam's bad luck. Too old to exchange it. Bummer. Makes me wonder how many other Criterions in my collection suffer from it. Or how long my new pickups (including FEAR & LOATHING) will last.
I’m going to contact Criterion to ask for a replacement for my copy of Detour. You may want to try that too. Nothing to lose.
One film I can't get into is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I love the book (I own the Folio Society's special edition) but I find the movie to be too glossy, despite the content on screen. When it comes to getting the gonzo tone right, I much prefer Where the Buffalo Roam with Bill Murray and Peter Boyle - recognizing it is much less faithful to the written stories.
Cool pickups Jerry! I had a ten dollars off rewards at Barnes and Noble, so I got that Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid set for about twenty five dollars. I also got the Essential Fellini box set, Perfect Days and The Rules of the Game. I do know what you mean about not watching stuff right away. I have movies I've had for years that I have not watched yet. In fact, I have a few movies that I got the 4k before I even watched the previous Blu-ray version that I had as well. Anyway, always a pleasure to hear you talk about movies.
Excellent Jerry, thank you. The BN sale is over and I was unable to purchase Bound 4k and Perfect Days 4k because sold out all month for online, nearest store too far. Amazon has both in stock but never matched sale price this year along with quite a few other Criterions...wonder if somehow related to Best Buy no longer selling discs? Blind buys, ugh, batting about 50/50, and like you much prefer to first screen on Criterion Channel. I was able to purchase others on Amazon at 50% off for most: *The Virgin Suicides 4k *Anatomy of a Fall *The Devil's Backbone *Thief *Tie Me Up Tie Me Down (back in print after years out of print for blu-ray) *Shampoo ($22.48, example of blu-ray not price matching BN) Quality control: Only Criterion disc that has frozen on me was Midnight Cowboy 4k, would freeze as Hoffman tumbles down stairs at party, but Amazon replaced with no hassle. But I only have a few dozen Criterions, just started collecting couple years ago at age 73! Tip: If Amazon follows through like in past years, they'll keep dozens of Criterion discs at 50% sale price for another week or two.
@@pete49327 I try to avoid Amazon if I can, but it’s definitely an alternative. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Siempre muy interesante! Saludos cinéfilos desde España! Gracias
Just picked up Alfredo Garcia! Need that link to your review 😊
@@hvitekristesdod My apologies. I guess I never did an episode about that film, but here’s my brief Letterboxd entry: boxd.it/2fZvRD
@@thekazdoyclosetwithjerryka1013 Awesome thanks!
I liked the first half buildup. They set up the relationship in a believable way and it hit hard at that devastating halfway point. I liked all the revenge stuff that followed too. My only complaint is what happened at the very end 😁
Cool☀🌲
The worst quality control issues I've encountered in the last year or so are Warner Brother DVDs mfg between 2006-2009. So many defective discs. A real waste of time and money. I even had two new sets of the same season of a show and both were defective. One disc in both sets wouldn't even load. We gave up on DVD sets of Dallas (turned to streaming the series). The sets got progressively worse by locking up. I have taken up defective issues with other labels and most were good about correcting the issue. Can't say the same about Warner and Universal. Warner has never responded to me and Universal sent me down something out of The Trial.
@@damianp564 I have several Warners DVD boxed sets I bought many years ago and I’m hesitant to check their condition. Living in denial, ignorance is bliss, and all that. Thanks for watching and commenting!
be curious if you encounter the brightness flicker DV on Risky Business?
@@CoinOpTV I will keep an eye out for that when I watch it 😳
@@thekazdoyclosetwithjerryka1013 i’m hearing it’s specific to Panasonic players in DV
Very interesting films. Great job reviewing!
Nothing sends my anxiety through the roof like a loose disc jumping round, but luckily none have actually turned out to be damaged. I am however stuck with a number of Criterion titles that did not play upon a second viewing after some time had passed. Unfortunately, being in Australia, I was unable to return any. I saw Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid at a cinema screening in 2018, which was a great experience, and last year I came across Dogfight on streaming. I can’t give that movie enough praise. I’ve since purchased an old WB copy on DVD, but would love to upgrade to the Criterion edition. Great video, Jerry!
@@cinematicrandomness Thanks for watching and commenting!
I picked up All That Jazz (haven't seen it yet but liked Cabaret and my brother says I should watch it) and Jarmusch's Mystery Train, which I already know I love. I thought about getting Itami's The Funeral, but I decided to be more frugal since it's likely to remain streamable on their Criterion Channel service anyway if I wanna watch that. My copy of Mystery Train looks a little water damaged tbh (part of the printed insert is all wrinkled up, as if it got wet), which is annoying, but the booklet inside seems fine so as long as the disc also works like new, I'm just going to overlook it.
Oh, btw, love Gilliam as well, Fear and Loathing is a great pick. Fisher King is my favorite of his so I also thought about picking up Criterion's release for that, but I figured I've already watched it many times...
@@SIDEKICKDUSTY All That Jazz has been on my list for a long time, and Jarmusch is a director I need to explore more, though I do have the Criterion edition of Dead Man. Years ago, I bought the Criterion Monterey Pop set and half of the book pages were upside down. Criterion sent me a replacement. Thanks for sharing!
I noticed that all of the films in this clip are English language films. Is that a coincidence or do you mainly prefer movies you can watch without subtitles?
Oh you did mention that you were going to pick up Farewell My Concubine (were it not for the floaters!) so I guess that kind of answers my question.
@@DavidBlakeslee Strictly a coincidence indeed! I have loads of foreign films in my collection, including the Bergman boxed set, two Shaw Brothers sets, several Kurosawa films, and the Zhang Yimou Collaborations set, which is excellent. Thanks for watching!
Criterion has very good customer service and will probably be willing to replace Detour for you as long as you send them the defective copy.
@@hunterdean4766 You’re right. I’ve always experienced very good customer service with them, and I will email them. Thanks!
My recommendation: Break the habit. You'll be glad you did. My advice is actually based on my collection of books. I used to own everything from some of my favorite authors whose full range of titles weren't too overwhelming. However, when space became tight, I questioned why I continued to own books that weren't true favorites just to have a complete run. I purged the titles I didn't really need to own and now I enjoy my collection more because it is truly comprised of my favorite books. I have adopted the same curated approach to films (mostly Blu-rays and 4Ks) and CDs. (One aside: I'm wondering whether you've seen the two-part SNL sketches from the early '80s where Buckwheat gets shot. If not, you can find them on a DVD disc called Saturday Night Live: The Best of Eddie Murphy. It's hilarious. 😁)
@@robsavage3217 I’m definitely overdue for pruning my collection, and am still figuring out what to do with my cds. I have indeed seen that SNL two-parter-classic! Thanks for commenting and watching.
I do not buy box sets like that, i buy the movie for the movie .
@@iloveblue7920 Makes sense!
Great episode Jerry! I never saw it as a kid, but really jumped into Ultraman. I have watched all the episodes of those original numbered releases. It is tough to do. Unlike shows in the U.S., they would make at least one episode for every week of the year. I have gotten other Ultraman series past Ultraman Leo. I also got Super Robot Red Baron and Iron King. Anyway, thanks as always.
@@michaelthemovieattic Thanks again for watching and commenting!
I’m not sure I’ll ever own any full collections from directors but I own a lot from David Lynch, Park Chan Wook, Tarantino, Almodovar, Shinya Tsukamoto, Peter Jackson and Takashi Miike
Welcome back! Very interesting collections ! Great reviews!
FOMO! I know it so well...😏 especially the words Limited Edition give me the creeps...🥴but not as much as Out of Print !🤯 Like you i leave a piece of paper inside a series box to remember where i left off; works for me!🙂
Completely off topic, but perhaps you can say something about it One of my favorite films I watched last year was John Huston's “Under the Volcano”. Do you have it in your collection?
@@oddpersona22 I’ve heard of this film, but unfortunately I don’t own it and have never seen it. But now I’m definitely intrigued!
I often agree with your choices, so I think you will love this movie☀
I really like Fear and Desire, though I could see how it could be underwhelming, especially since Kubrick usually goes big. I think the script has an elegant simplicity to it, and though the performances start off a bit corny, they get pretty emotional later. There's a series recently that did neat takes on Godzilla, Ultraman and Kamen Rider, where the title is just Shin [whichever of those], and Shin Ultraman is the only one I haven't seen yet but I enjoyed the other two even though neither was like a 5/5 for me... As far as feeling the pressure to keep collecting a series, I say just buy what you really want, nobody is going to scrutinize your home library that hard, but I never really considered myself a diehard collector of anything
@@SIDEKICKDUSTY Unfortunately, the worst person scrutinizing my collection is…myself! But that’s part of the game. Thanks again for watching.
miss your videos Mr.Kazdoy! as always great video! Please post more. I'd like to ask you, do you have movie The Swimmer 1968 with Burt Lancaster? that would be cool to see your Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas movies that u have, collection video like you did with Jerry Lewis
@@samharpershow I don’t have many films by those two actors, and I did talk about The Train before, which is excellent. I have the Indicator edition of The Swimmer, but need to rewatch it. Your positive feedback is much appreciated!
I have the Panasonic 820 too. It performs really well, but sometimes it freezes when I turn it on (unplug, replug, physical power button). I like how it can tell whether a disc has Dolby Vision. I get Region Free players because I watch a lot of non-US titles. My first 4K disc was ALIEN, a movie I love...it looks really good, but it's a dark film most of the time. Some very old films can look amazing on 4K (Frankenstein, The Mummy or ex). Casablanca too looks terrific. Enjoy your 820 Jerry!
congratulations on #27, KC and Mrs KC!
Thank you, sir!
Excellent, thank you Jerry.

One complaint against Diabolik. I bought a Blu-Ray that developed rot within two years. They refused outright to replace it. Disappointing.
@@paulconway384 Oh, that’s unfortunate. I’ve been in denial about disc rot but eventually I’ll have to inspect some older discs.
Amazon are terrible for theft. I've had all kinds stolen over the years. Cases with no discs, hard drives, books. I think the drivers treat it like a perk of the job 🤣

Very informative! Great recommendations, as always!
These all look excellent. Wish the Canadian webstore didn’t have surcharges for box sets :(
@@hvitekristesdod That is unfortunate. I did think about you folks outside the US, but forgot to mention it.
The Criterion Collection has made me want to spend money, for the sake of spending money, more than any other products I’ve bought in my life.
I feel your pain:) I've got a budget I stick to every July/Nov sale for about 5 or 6 Criterions. It is hard as hell to pick just six because there are about 50 in my A-tier list to buy.
@@brandonrobertkersjes I certainly can relate. Somehow I always end up going back to the store “just one more time.” 😏
Cool box sets! I have not seen any of those movies. I just ordered the Essential Fellini box set the other day and just picked up the Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid Criterion 4k 4 disc set.
