How Does Sleep Affect Productivity? | Top 8 Reasons You Should Sleep Enough
Sleep is a vitally important part of your life. Now, you may be thinking, "I'm young and healthy and don't need as much sleep as older people." Or maybe you're thinking, "I'll just sleep when I'm dead." Well, it turns out that sleep deprivation can do more than just make you cranky: it can have serious effects on your memory, your physical health, and even your emotional health.

__________
Reason Number One
Lack of sleep can cause problems with memory function and attention span. If you don't get enough sleep every night, you may find yourself forgetting things or struggling to focus on the tasks at hand. Studies have shown that people who don't get enough restful sleep are more likely than their well-rested peers to forget things like names or where they put their keys.
Reason Number Two
People who slept fewer than six hours a night were up to 75% more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease than those who slept seven or eight hours a night. Lack of sleep can also lead to poor physical health in the long run. People who don't get enough shut-eye have higher rates of obesity than those who do and tend to gain weight more quickly than their peers who get sufficient rest each night.
Reason Number Three
In addition to making us feel groggy, exhausted, and cranky during the day (which can lead to poor performance at work). Studies have show it can make you quite depressed. It's also been shown that getting enough sleep (such as 8 hours) can help reduce stress levels in people by as much as 33%. You may even feel anxious when you don't get enough restful sleep.
Reason Number Four
Driving while sleep-deprived can be dangerous-in fact, driving while drowsy is responsible for hundreds of thousands of accidents each year in the United States alone!
Reason Number Five
Lack of sleep makes you more likely to get sick. Sleep provides essential support to the immune system. Getting sufficient hours of high-quality sleep enables a well-balanced immune defense that features strong innate and adaptive immunity, efficient response to vaccines, and less severe allergic reactions.
Reason Number Six
Mounting evidence suggests that a good night's sleep seriously boosts productivity. One study of 4,188 U.S. workers found "significantly worse productivity, performance, and safety outcomes" among those who slept less, and estimated a $1,967 loss in productivity per worker due to poor sleep.
Reason Number Seven
Sleeping less than six hours a night spells trouble for individuals with increased heart risks, based on a recent study linking a short sleep duration to increased risk of death. Findings were published in the Journal of the American Heart Association and highlight the importance of a healthy night’s sleep, especially for adults with heart disease.
Reason Number Eight
Sleep dramatically improves our health which means that we feel more confident in our ability to make new friends, engage in a new hobby, or take part in regular exercise such as going to the gym or joining a running club. Essentially, the more we sleep, the better we feel, and this also increases our self-esteem

    There's so much wrong with this video and I urge everyone who watched this video to not take it to heart. There's just too much feel-good statements instead of truths. 1. Life has rules Being smart and having a mind that is able to conjure up outstanding ideas will be influenced by thing outside of one's control. Genetics, parents (and by extention, nutrution), culture, environment, people who you meet during your pre adult life. It is very much possible for people to get unlucky in those departments combined. 2. Principles and values don't discrimintate Talks about doing the right thing and expected the same result in return. Except people in the world especially higher up are corrupt to the bone. Those with power and money will implement laws and infrastructure that will further benefit them. Again, this point has nothing to do with the fairness of life. 3. Life is a competition and you are unique "we can do things that only we can do" Like what? . It's not like we live in a world where everyone who's born has some unique super power that ONLY they possess. So please tell me, what is it that only I can do? "When we set impossibel standards (like being someone else) and cannot achieve it, we blame it on life " Obivously, I cannot be a perfect clone of someone if I wanted. However I can desire what he has. It's not uncommon for people who's business or goals get absolutely derailed by something completely out of their control, just take a lookt at the pandemic. An unlucky car accident can completely ruin someone's carreer in sports. "perhaps we're not meant to be the way we imagined it" Maybe not meant to to be, but how does this function as a point to prove that life is fair. If anything it proves the contrary. By saying that some people aren't meant to be, you're essentially saying that certain doors, certain paths of life cannot be opened for certain people. If 2 people are born in life but the amount of doors that are unlocked for person A is vastly more, you can't say life is fair. 4. We all die At least try to explain how this relates to life being fair isntead of making a rose coloured statements, even though that's the only thing you do in the video. Friendly reminder that there are illnessess out there that take peoples lives at a very young age. Unless we decide to end our own lives, the time at which we die / the length of life we have lived will be completely random and up to chance. We all die, some at the age of 80, some at the age of 8. Does this make life fair? 5 Personal stories / anecdotes don't have any meaning in finding the truth abuot a matter for everyone has different experiences. "Life is fair because it's unfair to everyone" You took this to heart and I can understand why you wished to be smarter because only an idiot would take this to heart. Don't get me wrong, the statement is TRUE, however, it's missing 1 important detail. Life may be unfair to everyone but it's not equally unfair to everyone.

      Thank you for taking the time to write out your perspective and comments. You provided some excellent points! 👍 To start, I’d like to have a disclaimer that this video was not meant to dive into the specifics, but to have an overarching, deductive approach to “fairness”. It was my fault for not having laid out that claim. Hope my points below will clear up some of the possible misunderstandings or offer some new perspective: 1. While there is definitely luck and circumstantial influence on top of rules, the vast majority will have to abide by the consequences of laws and regulations. For example, there are consequences to stealing or murdering someone. It applies to everyone. In this sense (a theoretical basis), it is fair to all. 2. “People in the world especially higher up are corrupt to the bone” do not follow principles of honesty, compassion, and generosity. Many, many of them suffer the consequences under the law and guilt based on fraud, theft, prison time, and lawsuits. So, I believe this point still stands. 3. Each individual is born with a particular set of talents, in a specific environment, with particular opportunities, and with different actions. Yes. One door may open for you, but another may open for someone else. Wanting or expecting the same door to open and then it doesn’t may seem unfair, but it may not indeed be so. 4. A rich person may die young, or a poor person may die young. A bad person may die old, or a good person may die old. It is a matter of perspective whether it’s good, bad, or unfair. The result is the same in the end. It can seem unfair at the moment, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s the same. 5. True. Though anecdotal doesn’t have a say in empirical findings, it is important not to dismiss them as collectively they do contribute to the overall consequences. In fact, it’s those individual perspectives and experiences that bring forth reflections and new perspectives. While the ad hominem fallacy was not necessary, I can see why you believe the points I mentioned. Many statements do seem general and relativistic, but it will take too long to dive into the specifics. Lastly, it is an excellent point of the degree of fairness is different, but my previous four points still stand. Of course, it would be great to minimize individual needs, but don't we all want to minimize our pain or suffering? Who am I to say my burden is greater than yours? It is not a competition of who suffers more, but that all our needs are valid. Now it is not to say that every single person’s life is exactly fair when compared to one another. It is the world’s natural tendency to skew towards chaos and disorder, but that in itself is a rule that applies to everyone and the universe. That’s why we’re here to make an effort to make the world a better place and help those who are in need. Rather than saying how unfair life is, it’s better to see the individual opportunities and actions you can take. It's not my purpose to convince anyone to change their perspective but to offer the possibility of one. You may continue to see it your way, and others may not. Again, I do appreciate your thoughts on this and for providing your points! Cheers!

    Success is pretty much a subjective thing, bit predictable and kind of One size doesnot fit everyone concept. As beautifully pointed in this video, we often look at other's Success with Tip of an Iceberg view not understanding the Hardships they endured in their endeavor, Sacrifices they made and not the least the amount of effort they put in. Success to me is a long journey and a process to follow before thinking of instant desired results. In my opinion, Success has much bigger value than the Seven wonders of the World as it has the power to do wonders to your own World if you truly deserve it, I mean it. Period

    Very nice video Sir. 1) My job js 8 to 5 and I work for a very strict company. So difficult to implement polypropylene sleep. But what bypass I can make tp sleep just for 4 hours a day. 2) Also I want to know does junk food forces our body to give more time in recovery and thereby more sleep? Does eating 100% natural will reduce the sleep quota? Can you pls guide me on above two points. Wishing you nice day and waiting for your reply :)

    • @YourUnlockedPotential
      @YourUnlockedPotential 2 роки тому

      Hey Amol, great questions. To answer your first question, everyone is different, having enough sleep for you is very important. Not everyone is able to do polyphasic sleep. Some people do polyphasic sleep in intervals of 20 minutes or so. You may also find time to get in some sleep during lunch breaks, commute (on bus), or during small breaks here and there. The QUALITY of sleep is also important. Sleep deprivation can be dangerous so you need to get enough sleep for your body. For your second question, junk food usually is made of high carbohydrates, that means often you get a quick burst of energy but suddenly fades away, leading you to be more tired. Studies have shown that eating junk food cause you to sleep poorly and can interferes with your sleep. Things like caffeine and alcohol can also affect your sleep quality. If you have issues with sleep, I suggest to avoid junk food, caffeine, and alcohol. One thing to note is I'm not a sleep doctor, if you find sleep impacting your health negatively, I advise you to talk to a health professional. Hope these answers help! Cheers! 👍🙂

    I agree that you cant be sleeping 8 hours a day.A person needs to find a fixed duration of sleep which doesnt effects its efficiency or makes him feel lethargic in the middle of the day. Personally i sleep 6 hours a day, i have tried going below 6 but it doesnt suits me. Very informative video.

      Great! It's good to be self-aware! There's nothing wrong with one particular method over the other, it's all about the situation!

    For me the problem I get such a peaceful time after 1am I think it's a waste if I sleep that privilege of absolute silence and alone time... Least distractions... After 1am to 4 am is best time to be aware... You will learn a lot that time is best time of my day of entire 24hours.

    It is unfair to blame life for being unfair, when it is people who are unfair. Life is very fair, very wise, in how it shapes our behavior and teaches us; it is a very wise and compassionate teacher. Life is designed to point us to Love, and when we wander, it points us back to Love again and again if necessary; life is very patient and very consistent in its pointing.

      Wow, very true. I agree with you 100%. Many times in life it does come down to Love, so that we may do the right thing. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!!

    Thank you very much for your sharing. May i ask how would you critic theory x, y, z to edward deci and richard ryan's self determination theory? Which one is better and what are the advantage and disadvantage when applying to organisational psychologies/ leadership styles? Does these theories both applies to marco context or micro context?

    • @YourUnlockedPotential
      @YourUnlockedPotential 2 роки тому

      Excellent question! There isn't one better than the other per say as there are a lot of overlap between the theories. The self determination theory (SDT) also has overlap with another theory which is the Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs (I have another video on this). The input for SDT can be both internal and external and it's really a balance of the two. XYZ is often oversimplified compared to SDT, but these theories can apply to macro and micro context. Because of this XYZ often towards micro and you will need to understand the people you lead on a micro scale, whereas SDT is usually macro as it explains innate human trait. That's the brief answer I can give but hope this helps!
