    Finally a hands on attitude for untrained but interested ppl. And you show what you do for ex the sound deadning in the wheel section. Everbody else talks about it, but nobody showed it. thanks for that, helps me a lot seeing it visually. A little side note: I would emphasize the three layers clearer to your audience, because I had to rewind a few time to get the layers right as a beginner with the project of sound deadning.

    Interesting video. I spotted a couple of things whilst you were taking wheels off & jacking up etc, so here is some unsolicited advice. First, don't remove wheel nuts completely until the car is off the ground; this is likely the reason that the last 2 were so difficult to remove. Removing a wheel nut whilst another is tight causes the wheel to not sit quite as flush, meaning there is more tension held in the remaining bolts. Usually, i'd crack the wheel nuts loose before jacking up, before removing them completely. Another thing about jack stands. Those ratcheting stands are really strong, and usually come with a pin system to secure the ratchet in place which adds more stability and another line of defence if something bad were to happen.

    This wasnt mentioned in the video - is this from an x-nav to 3 button? Or something else? Ive just swapped a 2 to 3 but the 2 is an xnav (has sd card in the glove box). You have to also disconnect the USB splitter, and connect the USB connector directly to the head unit. If you keep the splitter, carplay wont work. Removing the splitter will stop the built in nav working, but then carplay will work

    • @charlie861i
      @charlie861i 6 днів тому

      at 1:04 you can see the grey cable, far left, goes into the dash - in an xnav unit it goes upwards into a small black box which has two additional cables which go into the dash. Disconnect both of those from the splitter, and the splitter from the head unit. On the splitter input youll see the nav icon (left) and “USB” (right). Connect the right USB directly into the head unit, and car play works

    • @jamieaygo
      @jamieaygo 6 днів тому

      This isn't an X Nav, but you're spot on with what you say if you are coming from an X Nav. There is a decent diagram on the Toyota aygo forums if anyone is needing it - www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/189148-aygo-2015-infotainment-upgrade-android-auto-and-apple-carplay/page/4/#comments

    At first I thought my new Pioneer speakers were rubbish. The sound was very resonant at first, the bass reproduction was very thin and ugly. After I flattened the doors inside with this stuff I couldn't believe my ears! The bass now sounds so incredibly full and deep! My bass setting was first set to +7 after everything was done, it is at -1 😃

    Nice video, it was really annoying to do this to my forester and it took waaay more than I thought it would, but I hope it’ll make a difference because I haven’t driven it yet and I still have to finish putting it back together. Hopefully I’ll get some time to start making videos on the partial restoration that I’m performing on it soon! Only thing I would correct you on is to not take the clips (you call them studs) like that. That tool shouldn’t go under the clip directly. First you use the lever to pop the center of the clip out (it shouldn’t come out all the way but some do) and only then you pry underneath it. That’s how they are made to work and you risk damaging the clip or the plastic that it’s holding by just prying them out directly. Also, don’t tighten your wheels by stepping on the wrench, buy a torque wrench and use that. Thanks for doing this and showing the results!

    • @jamieaygo

    I'm a new driver and my first car is a 2014/2015 aygo. When I was looking up pros and cons about it before purchasing it, alot of people talked about the high bite point. But for me, the bite point wasn't the problem, it was the throttle control. Just because there was just so much dead space before the pedal recognised I was giving it gas. And because its such a small engine, you're almost certain to stall it with no gas. I've owned mine for just over a month and I'm still getting used to it. Don't know if its a car problem or just because I have no idea how to drive 😂

    • @jamieaygo
      @jamieaygo 15 днів тому

      Definitely a quirk of the car! it's not you, don't worry. The trick I've found with the Aygo is that it always needs gas. Some cars move on their own when you just lift up the clutch but the Aygo isn't one of them. You'll need to feather the gas pedal (that's what I like to do anyway) just to wake the Aygo up a bit. You'll get the hang of it 👍

    Do NOT cut your vapor barrier like that, there's a reason for the vapor barrier, and it is to keep moisture OUTSIDE of your car. Water that rains onto your windows goes down the doors and drains through the doors. With heavy rain and a cut vapor barrier, the water will make its way inside the cabin and you will end up with a soggy floor.

    Applying all those soundproofing measures for cars of that class doesn't make a lot of sense

    • @jamieaygo
      @jamieaygo 18 днів тому

      Yeah, I can see that. It depends what you value it for. For me, I like that it makes my rides around town and on the motorway quieter, but you are right in that it could potentially impact things like fuel economy, which is what some people value about these cars.

  • @dann6341
    @dann6341 18 днів тому

    As someone who works in the noise field, it's worth noting that a 1-2 dB noise difference isn't really noticeable in the human ear, 3dB difference is slightly noticeable, 5dB is a distinct difference, 10 dB difference is a doubling/ halving in noise. Definitely invest in a breaker bar for your wheel nuts, and a jack!

  • @Smjn_
    @Smjn_ 18 днів тому

    Seems like a significant amount of effort for 1-2 decibel drops!

    • @jamieaygo
      @jamieaygo 18 днів тому

      Yeah, I can certainly see that argument. I think it's important to think of the improvements outside of the decibel scale as that only measures sound pressure, which is certainly important but it doesn't cover everything. When you perceive sound on a day-to-day basis in the cabin, you do notice it and there is still a lot that can be done to lower decibels, but it's whether you think you are getting value out of it, isn't it. For me, I think it is absolutely worth it and you'll only really find out by doing it and experiencing it for yourself. I think the quickest win is changing your tyers to quieter ones (as an example, going from 70db to 68db). If you notice a difference with that, then you'll also feel it when you start soundproofing wheel arches and doors, etc.

    • @jamieaygo
      @jamieaygo 18 днів тому

      If anything it should make your sound system sound better! Some of the products I've used mention this specifically. The only thing some people have noted is that it takes away from the rattle that you get when you turn up the volume (bass specifically), but if you'd rather not have that then happy days.

      Two years ago I did soundproofing in my car mainly to improve sound quality. It WILL be massively better with the same setup you have already. If you put the wheel youve just taken off the car , under the car you give your self a survival space should the car fall. Costs nothing and takes very little effort , as well as it being the difference between cutting your foot off , and walking away with a bruise , it lets you get the jack back under the car should it fall ... worth a thought.

    One of the other most important things not mentioned in this video is really improving your weather stripping and seals around your doors and windoes. This will vastly improve your sound proofing because sound is just a pressure wave that travels through the air and if the air itself can get in then so can the sound. A lot of road noises you are hearing while driving is also just the wind and obviously if you can seal off the inside air from the outside air then there will be less turbulence and thus quieter sound. :)

    Many people complain these 1 liter engines are underpowered. But remember these cars are very light as well, so they actually have respectable acceleration up to 70mph. The key with these small engines that uses VVT is to keep the revs up. If you take away the factory slim wheels and put on fat wheels with fat tyres you can corner these small cars at ridiculous speed.

    Yeah there are other similar companies that offer such things.. the problems are 2: A) the product offerings aren’t available for your specific vehicle. B) when they are, they might not be engineered in a good location for easy reach and safe use. In this case, it wasn’t offered for my specific make and model year. The American equivalent (proclip) does offer a solution for my car, but it is too far from my hands and blocks the air vent. And sadly they don’t provide any other solutions.

    • @jamieaygo

      I think this is a really considered comment, so thank you. I agree with pretty much all of this. This option is the closest to my liking but how it covers the hazard warning light button annoys me. If it was on the other side, that would be much more helpful, which apparently the Europeans got. I tried switching mine from the left-mounted position over to the right, but it just won't stretch. It's the old saying isn't it - Sometimes if you want something done, it's best to do it yourself! 😂 I'm half tempted to get a 3D printer and make one myself!

    My 2008 Aygo Platinum was fine for 18 months but then the clutch went. Repaired that then 6 months later the alternator and drive belt. Git tgat repaired then another problem came up. I have decided I will probably just get a new car instead of throwing more money into a seemingly bottomless pit.

      Sorry to hear you are pumping money into yours. It reminds me of my old Audi that ate £1,500 a year with all the fixes I had to do to it. Sometimes you have to cut your losses and upgrade.

    I think that audibly the ear can only hear 3 dB differences. So it may be a problem in measuring. The butyl damper can be applied across large spaces like door panels by applying small areas of it at distances designed to cancel harmonics. So place them at 1/3, 1/5, 1/7 distances across an area. Try and avoid the even numbers as they can still vibrate on the even distances ie 1/2, 1/4 etc A nice video explaining what you did to insulate the car.

    Hi Jamie, I’ve got a Citroen C1 64 plate with the non-touch unit radio and I was just wondering if I buy a screen, would I need to get it coded/programmed to work in my car? Cause I was checking for screens on eBay and the sellers would mention that “it will be need to be coded to your car” or “unlock coded needed” in the description. Would u happen to know if a code is needed?

    • @jamieaygo
      @jamieaygo Місяць тому

      Hi, Temi. As far as I am aware they don't need decoding. I asked Flash22 over on the Toyota Aygo forums (they are very knowledgable on these head units) and they assured me the head units aren't coded at all. It may be that people selling them on Ebay are saying this just to avoid any circumstance where they have to offer a refund, etc. If you can pick one up off of a reputable reseller on Ebay, you should be able to return it if there are any issues, but the one I installed and the head unit I sold were not coded, so it's just a plug and play job.

    Had the 2020 Aygo x-clusiv with MMT (Multi-Mode Transmission), i.e. automated manual. It was so smooth once you learned when the computer decides to shift. Also had enough power to be fun - in and outside of cities. And with the x-clusiv package, it was pure luxury. However, moved to a country with the steering wheel on the other side and had to sell it. Once we're settled in properly, our next car will also be an Aygo. The newer models since 2022/2023 are based on the former Yaris chassis - so they now have a proper CVT and lots of other niceties, e.g. wireless charging mat for the phone, wireless CarPlay, etc.

      @@jamieaygo Thanks for the advice. MK2 is quite expensive in Sweden from the looks of it, at around 62000 miles they can go for nearly 5000 British pounds whereas MK1 is less than half that which sounds more reasonable for a (hopefully) decent first car.

    do you know, add rubber seal to any hole that connected to the door significantly improve soundproofing than any sound deadening material you add. make sure you have no hole from the wheel to the door. thats the noise came from.

      Hey! Sorry to hear you are having issues. Make sure Siri is turned on/not blocked. You can check that this works by either long-pressing the power button until the Siri icon pops up or saying "Hey, Siri" and it should come on. Does your phone draw power when you plug it into the USB port? Some of these units can have faulty USB ports. If it isn't, try plugging your old unit back in to see if it works. That way, you can send the new one back if it's faulty. If it is drawing power, try using a different USB cable to see if it fixes the problem.

      make sure your iPhone is up to date, too. Apple have a habit of breaking CarPlay. looking at what firmware version you have on your head unit is also worth doing, as you might have dodgy firmware on it. The link below will talk you through firmware update options - www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/206295-aygo-3-button-head-unit-software-update/

      Are you replacing an x-nav unit (built in navigation on 2 button)? You need to unplug the splitter, back left of the unit and plug the usb connector straight into the head unit. Simple to do, but easy to miss

    At the start of covid just before 1st lockdown, I packed my 2007 aygo with pasta & toilet roll and drove from my house in the utrecht (Netherlands) to my hometown West Yorkshire via Belgium, France, Channel tunnel etc. 14 hours, 1 tank of fuel, 803km = 64mpg Day to day mixed driving never worked it out properly but roughly 55mpg i think, drive very carefully, more for mechanical sympathy/ engine longevity than economic reasons Great video anyway very interesting!!

    • @jamieaygo
      @jamieaygo Місяць тому

      It's the Liquid Air Case by Spigen. Had it on for a few years and it's been great. I prefer the slimmer ones like this just because they don't add any size or weight really to an already big phone, but you still get great protection. Not a mark on my iPhone.
