My first car was a 1935 Morris 8 2 seater tourer (BYH 418) bought for £100 in 1969 aged 17, and it was an excellent motor that never let me down. I drove all over the UK as a daily use car at 50-55 mph. I think it still exists somewhere in Germany. Happy days !
As stated below, this is in fact a 1929 Austin 7. 1929 was the first year the distributor was installed; before that they had a magneo mounted at the base of the engine. And the 1929 was the only year that had glove compartments (maybe 1930 as well?) Anyway, a lovely little car. And yes, you need to practice double-de clutching. But well done, and all the best. A wonderful video.
This really takes me back to when I know almost nothing about cars.
Two fools make fun of classic cars 😒 How could you not know that there were no synchromesh gearboxes in Britain in the 1930s?!
hi Lads, stumbled over your channel, great show,,,,,, keep posting 👍
These two lads are going to have ruined the car
👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️💥💥💥💥🇮🇩🤝
Could someone comment back to me about which coach builder's body this is? Please?😊
In a vehicle with a non synchro gearbox. I am sure that any truck driver would know how to drive it because Double D Clutching in a basic requirement in a licence test to drive a truck. it means when changing up clutch from gear to neutral, then clutch again from neutral to the next highest gear. When changing down clutch from gear to neutral the accelerate engine rpm to equal the gearbox output shaft rpm then clutch again to change down. I assure you it needs a lot of practice. If you can do it well enough to pass a truck licence test you can drive any non- synchro car.
When, and why, did we start saying 'gas' for petrol? Please, this is England, so maybe keep English English? Used to have one of these back in the '60s. A lovely little runner, and super easy to maintain.
My mum had one and we loved it.
“It’s quite a big car” A few million people from across the pond are questioning your statement.
heath ledger drives a mini 😁👍
The P is such a beautiful car! So happy to see you gent out “crashing around” LOL
Wow, thanks for the overview
Great video guys 😁
Rear hatch wasn't closed when they were driving. 😒
The engine was a bit different than the one used in the Audi 100 C2. Porsche constructed a new cylinder head for the 924 and added a K-Jettronic fuel injection, resulting in 125 HP instead of 115 in the Audi 100. The bad 924 engine reputation in the US came from an initial, mandatory 'Air Injector Reactor (AIR)' or 'Smog Pump', which reduced the US power output from 125 to 95 HP. Half a year later Porsche introduced a catalytic converter in the US 924, which pushed the power up to 110 HP. But it was still considerably less than the non-cat 125 HP of the European models.
Ah ok i thought that some 924 came with the 115 hp in the EU and not all had 125hp
Great to see youngsters enjoying these lovely old cars, keep it up.
Nice but I want to see more of the car. 🇦🇺👍🍺
In 1971 my driving instructor was ill so I drove myself to the test centre in my father's Austin Hampshire. The examiner was such a short ars that he couldn't see over the dashboard, as such I undeservedly passed.
I want one . Love my austin 7 might have to mod the engine
My father purchased a 1933 Morris in 1962. He paid £15.00 for it because the previous owner had just purchased four months road tax so it was £10 for the car and £5 to cover the road tax. In those days when taxing a car you could tax it for either 12 months or four months. he kept it for a couple of years and part exchanged it for a 3 yr old Austin A35 Van.
Only a couple of young kids would miss the real facts concerning this car. The TC, followed by the TD and the TF, were the "original " sports cars for the USA market. They were brought over here (US)by young soldiers following the 2nd WW., and were rapidly accepted by the American public, thus the beginning of the "sports car" craze in America. That led (in about 1953) to the Chevy Corvette, followed by the Ford Tbird, followed by many others. MG sports cars led the way boys!
My uncle had one of these. It was a pretty car but the cooling system was under sized. It would overheat idling in traffic.
Double De-Clutch.....or if you are a well experienced manual driver one could change gear without using the clutch by judging the right revs and slipping into gear BUT do not try it without someone who is experienced with you. I am 87
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️🙏
KEEP AWAY FROM STEEP HILLS.
Afine example of british craftmanship worth every penny.driving a Speed 25 for more than 15000 Km without problems racing on the Nürburgring and Hockenheimring.former owner was delighted when i told him doing so.
Speak English
Gas? On the steering wheel?
Very disappointed with this video. Virtually no information on the Alvis except to mention that it has blue wheels.
I had one it’s ok! It’s not a Porsche engine. Only has 120 hp. Turbo has much more. No power steering on mine., I give it a 4/10.
It is absolutely a sports car. Whoever told you otherwise is daft.
The Austin Seven Mini is Britain's response to the Volkswagen Beetle.
Shift slowly lol and don’t rev on up shifts that’s your issue
Yes indeedy, l had a 1936 Austin ruby as my daily driver to school etc in 1967-8 in Wanganui New Zealand. My first car, many good memories. Thanks for the video.
❤
Quite right no fuel gauge. A small warning light came on when there was about a gallon in the tank.
An aside question please. What wristwatch is Al wearing please?
Might be a Tudor Black Bay.
@@hcgaming4564 nah it's a vintage watch :-)
Well it looks like I found Heath Ledger's doppelganger Maybe Batman The Dark Knight can have another sequel
That steering wheel is horribly not original. Why would you change the original which is a distinctive beautiful feature of the original design. Beautiful car and colour though.
Would it be kinder to the gearbox to not use the clutch for changing gear. The engine will slow it down quicker to find the right speed for the next gear. It definitely works with with lorry lorries that have constant mesh or non synchro.
I had one, Reg no. started as BOY***. I sold it for £120 in 1966. A group of us at teachers trading college in Twickenham had MGs. There was an F type six cylinder, a TA and a TB. We spent more time messing about with the leaky vertical dynamo felt seal, trying to nance the SU carbs and adjusting the brakes. My PB was a light blue but I changed it to BRR. I’ve often wondered if it’s still about. So much regret selling it for a morris minor convertible. 1
Hey guys, I’ve just discovered your channel and my dad and I have spent all afternoon looking over your videos. Well done, great stuff. But why no newer videos. I know there’s not been a million views yet, but you’re both very natural and a great team and for sure success will come in time. Have you any plans to do more videos?
Thank you! Lovely to hear!! Nothing planned at the moment as we are both busy with new endeavours, but we aren’t over yet! Just a shift in scene for now👍🏻
how is this channel now huge???
I love hearing all those excuses of why a driver is not quick.
Yeah,go on guys......hurt me some more. I was given a TF as a 21st present & had it for 11yrs. Had enjoyable & riotous times in my much-missed MG. Sold it for a house deposit after marriage.2 kids, adulterous wife, sold house later.......the thing that hurts most is the empty MG garage. You can't drive memories.......you drive to make memories.
Modern cars are so remote from the real joy of mechanical partnership that any dolt can drive one......BUT. ........to have that sense of achievement in coaxing the best out of your car & also yourself you end up with a joyous feeling of mutual pleasure. You feel your car respond to being driven correctly & you smile broadly every time you know you've got it right. Same box auto-everything evs' just have no soul......they don't even sound like a real car should.
Double declutch, double declutch, double declutch. Once learned it becomes second nature. You can even learn how to drive without a clutch altogether.
