When I was going to college back in the early 60's in Rocky Mount and headed back home in No. VA, I use to travel up Rt 301, (as I-95 had not been completed in that immediate area), until it merged into I-95 at Weldon. While I never passed thru Roanoke Rapids, I knew I had arrived because the smell from (I recall) the paper mills was strong. No, I mean, really strong. Now living in N.C., I have not been back up there for several years, but I suspect it hasn't changed much. I still enjoy the memories.
We live in Durham now but my hubby grew up in Hamilton. We watch your channel avidly and were so excited when you visited oak city and robinsonville area... but you visited everywhere but Hamilton and he was sooo disappointed. When are you going to visit Hamilton..
Thank you for being a subscriber. I was north of Hamilton this week shooting videos up along the border and will probably get Hamilton on my next road trip in December.
I do not, but it is a good question. My best guess would be that they got their names at different times and they wanted to honor the same people or places, whichever it may be.
Pretty cool Seeing the old canal.lox
It was. I was expecting it to be wider.
That "big business" on the left was the paper mill.
Thanks. That explains all the logging trucks 👍
Interesting tour and history Timothy. Thanks for bringing us along.
You’re welcome. I definitely want to go back and walk the trail as well as visit the museum.

Thanks for sharing your memories. Paper mills, wherever they are, definitely have an unpleasant smell.
👍👍 .........

@TimothyFrench Hamilton is haunted if you ask the older locals.. they had civil war battles there.
@michellekelly7742 Cool. I love good haunting 👍
Small towns are better than big cities.
Why is it that Gaston is not in Gaston County, Davidson is not in Davidson County, Rockingham is not in Rockingham County, etc. Do you know any more?
