Have you considered going a ramp truck style instead of a flat top/beavertail? It might not be your style at all but I think it would help get all the weight lower and you can bring the sides down as far as you like. End of the day its your truck though, love it!
F ❤
Tubeless rims and 255 tyres will make the trucklower
If I ever built a XB coupe, I would paint it white I reckon that looks great white it just suits that shaped car
I've got a tire 69 f600 I'm working on bringing back
Happy to see you back on the F truck. The good news. Regarding the weight you will be adding to the coupe is mostly over the front of the car, so in relation to the truck, you will be loading in about the most ideal position centred between both axles. I would suggest you update tyres to modern tubeless 11.00R22.5 tyres and rims or even low profile tyres. They will still fit your spiders, be a lot better ride, handle better , quiet and most of all the old 10.00x20 are just about impossible these days to get in any decent highway tyre. Just on a safety note if you are unfamiliar with spider rims, DO NOT remove the nut all the way. Loosen the nut but leave at least a full thread of wheel stud remaining in the nut, then hit the rim wedges with a hammer. Those wedges are under a lot of tension and have been known knock peoples heads off if you don’t remove them properly. Once all five wedges are loosened off , they are safe to remove. The wheel spacer will need a good hit with a hammer as well as they get rust and dirt around them making it hard to remove. Fitting the spiders is not as straight forward as you think, but easy when you know the procedure. Let me know if you aren’t familiar with spiders. If you are building a tray, go for a proper tilt tray. Much more practical and usable, safer loading and for a handy fella like yourself it wouldn’t be to hard to knock up. Those taillights are cool. They are original Ford lights and the cab lights are period cool as well. You probably won’t get a lot more top speed out of the two speed diff on high. They are bloody good to have when driving up hills and generally trouble free. If you have problems sorting it out, it’s an easy job for an Auto electrician. Personally I would get it working. Not so much for a low range ratio, but usually to split gears on hills instead of making full gear changes, especially on small trucks like yours when loaded as you don’t need a lot of weight to be near capacity. I would be looking at air ride suspension on the rear. It will be so much nicer to drive . You could get a modern medium duty rear axle with air suspension and get a nice gear ratio and 10 stud wheels, but if you retain your current suspension configuration, you could change the spring pack and add air bags to it for a nicer ride. And of course with both options you can lower it. Merry Christmas to you and your family mate. 👍
Lots of good info and points there, thanks bud. I've already filmed more on the truck, hopefully that's out soon, but I cover a bit of that in that vid
@ hope I’m not talking down you regarding information given. I realise you have a great mechanical knowledge base but I’m unsure if you have had much to do with trucks. Love the Chanel mate an$ can’t wait for more of everything . 👍
No not all, there's nothing wrong with sharing your knowledge if you're unsure if someone's heard it before, especially when it's a safety thing! Benny rang me to warn about the wheel locks/cleats a little while back while he waa changing some wheels, and he knew I was getting close to doing the same job
@ I have been around the transport industry 40 years and the spider type rims are all but disappeared owing to. A lot of guys with good experience have just never come across these types of wheels before. I have seen guys that have a decades driving experience go to change them thinking it’s straight forward only because they don’t know any better. Do it right and there is no problem, but they can put you in hospital pretty quick. 👍
Achieved heaps on your own before Benny rocked up Phil. Awesome video. Truck looks way better already mate!
Thanks Phil for all the entertainment you have provided this year. Hope you have a Merry Christmas and a great year next year.
Thanks bud, same to you 🙂🤙
Was a bit worried when the car was rocking when you were driving it out .😬🙄😳😲 Never seen a leaf spring used on a tow bar before.
It was kinda loosely tied on, it wasn't going too far😁
First comment 🤗
I was just looking at the same pan brake and figured i could take that angle off to do tighter bends, Guese you just answered that for me. wonder how it would be with .9 mm though
Onya mate, great seeing what's happening with whatever happens, it's all interesting Phil.
Have been following since the ford forum days 👍
One TUFF XB coming together right there! AWESOME build your doing Phil, really enjoy the commentary detail on everything you do mate.
Love your attention to detail l’m sure the truck will be the same keep up the good work
Love the Falcon hardtops! Nice choice of engine too-bet that gets it going? Personally though I would ditch those ugly rims 🤮
😊
Coming along nicely, I love watching your work on it. I will admit I was never really a Ford person but I did have one many years ago and was a member on Ford Forums, I took an interest in this coupe when you took it from a drag car and put it on the road and there were a few other Fords I used to enjoy watching being built so I’m rapt you still have this and it’s still getting better and better. Keep up the great work
Thanks bud, that was a long time ago now!
@ I know and it makes me realise how bloody old I am now, there were some good builds on that forum back then
@@knight2425 I follow a lot of the guys on FB now, last time I was on ff it said my last visit was 2019,and it was another 4yrs before that for my previous visit!
@@Philthybuilds I haven’t been on it for years but I used to like it much more than the Commodore one, most of the guys on the Ford forum were really helpful and great to chat with but the Commodore one was full of arrogant pricks to be honest.
nice work!
Yeah but has to be done! No different here my bbf is a struggle in fitment...been in and out 3 times, still don't look as good as yours .
Checking back I'm! I've been back on Qld. So, now in the cold, this is coming along so nice..I must admit your chassis connectors make me very envious I've obviously done everything backwards..
Mate she's looking tough AF, made that diff install look like a breeze.
Hey phil what brakes are on that diff please and are your rims 10" with 3.5" backspace ? Thank you .. Loving this build
Hey bud, it's a wilwood kit with the internal park brake, and the smaller rotors and callipers to fit under the beadlocks. I've got larger rotors and callipers that I'll fit later. The rims are 10's with a 4.5" bs
@@Philthybuilds Thank you,
enter the shed, turn on camera.. film the lot :)
Seriously video everything you do on it. It'll give the algorithm a kick start and i reckon most of us would watch it all. I know i can't get enough of this build
Twin 14" Maradyne fans will cool it .2500cfm each one, Thats what i run on my v8 escort
@@302esky I'll check them out, thanks bud
Plus I run the Davis Craig 150lph electric water pump and thermo fan digital controler.
@@302esky I've got one of those pumps, I've literally just taken it out of the boot (from the old A2A intercoolers tank)
If your in Perth again hit me up be cool to catch up, I'm 43 been in oz for 19 years now, doing an amazing job mate she is going to be a bloody weapon that's for sure
Will do, I'm over there regularly. No idea why but I thought you were nsw. Thanks man, much appreciated!
I work with a grinder more than most people and use no guard and the thin blades always, I Only use a battery grinder without guard and I only use pferd 1mm cuting blades and never have issues,
There's always a first time...................
@@eddieedmondson7698 I've had blades fly off and I've had corded grinders flick and cut my arm pretty bad and any time I had them bite me bad they always had guards, using a grinder daily is part of my job and I don't have blades explode as I use the right blade for the right job and I buy good quality, issue with guards is they get in the way 80% of the time
@@Grooty79 Perhaps it's time to consider a different trade?
after getting bawled out by a mate for not having guards on some of my grinders I went and bought a bunch of generics.....
Not doing a PDM?
I'm still considering it
I know that late XB’s started to have XC parts on them. Is your XB early, or late; the replacement radiator support you have, may be the opposite early/late…. 🤔 And yeah, I agree with the comment about using a guard on your grinder. Otherwise, great to see the new work!😃👍
I forgot to mention it in the vid, mines a Dec 73 build so it's early on in the XB production
Looking good mate. I keep getting distracted by the trucks in the background. 🔥
@@Louie2309there's a vid on the big truck coming soon, the lil one will be a while yet
Those thin disks will absolutely lodge themselves in you if they explode. I've had them come apart on me before. Use the safety guard mate
love how this build is turning out, what a dream
This is going to be a cool ride when you get done, really enjoying watching your progress
bit of OCD in that engine bay :)
Insane I can't imagine the horsepower output and money put into it long live the mighty Ford
A reasonable amount, and a lot 😅
Once our buses are both going I'm sure the drives won't be as bad 😂 Those headers though 🤤
Dude👌👌
Same goes with yours bud 👌👌
Great video im enjoying the progress
Looks sharp! Beautiful work.
Been following your car for a long time and it’s awesome to see what this version is turning into!! Might even give me some motivation to finish my build 😂😂
Well done Phil, coming along nice mate. Keep us informed on progress!
The design of the headers looks great! I've sent you a Messenger message with a question about your diff. 👍
👌👌 looking good mate..!
I was sitting at work today thinking we must be about due for another episode. And here we are
Could you sit at work and think about both of us having a lot of money? 😅🤞
@Philthybuilds mate you drive diggers in wa. You'd be swimming in it haha. Mind you I'm sure the hobbies soak up a fair old chunk
🤩
Maybe I missed it, but what gauge did you use for the new mounts. Really enjoyed the video. Very impressive work. Thank you for posting.
Came across your video looking at the joels hoists. It is what I expected, takes half a day to lift on single phase 😂. But beggers can't be choosers. Good to see it doesn't appear to be THAT hard to set up.
The Whipple Supercharger will blow the Barn Doors off the Harrop every day of the week and ×2 on Sunday's 😅😅😅
Wasn't expecting that blow out at the end! And no curse words 😮I'd of gone well cursing. Mate my compressor here it's so old you need to stand outside when it cuts in😅 anyway. Xb looking awesome in the engine bay fab work. Your doing a stunning job on the front support let alone the rest of it.
