I was invited out at the last minute to grab some quick 4K 60FPS and 120 FPS footage for a clothing brand using the SONY ZVE1 on the brightest day of Summer!
My ND filter was maxed out and It was a pretty tight schedule and I had 5/10 Minutes with each model! These is a montage of the best shots.
Great little camera that I use alongside my FX3.

    If they are all measured to the same metric, the "1 inch" on the pocket is still much larger than the other cameras in its range tho right? I mean I have and already use a pocket and it's fantastic. But this is very interesting!

    Sent mine back, since it cause wierd noise during movement. Idk if it was broken. I could reduce it by using ruber band. Idk if I will buy it again, maybe mine was broken or if I will get a Zoom or Tascam recorder plus another shotgun mic, or maybe the wireless ones? I want to use it for travel videos, ambient environment sounds plus vocals.

      Yea the dampener isn’t the best, maybe that one was faulty, but if you walk heavy or run with it you pick up that noise for sure. That’s the one downside to this.

      @@avicreates any recomendation for traveling? Maybe I will give it a try again and if I have the same issue I will send it back again. These DJ Mic 2 wireless seem interesting, but are they usefull for stereo ambient sound as well? It's not easy finding the right mic. The Sony was perfect if there wasn't the issue with the dampener.

      I like the DJI MIC 2 , you can set it up for stereo, the nice thing about that is that you can separate the mic’s further to create more dynamic sound. It also has 32bit float. Other than that the zoom audio recorders are great. I really do like the Sony mic , it’s just fast plug and play, no batteries or wires. DJI does offer an adapter that makes the receiver wireless too.

    This really isn't a DJI issue it's the camera industry and government consumer regulations and enforcement allowing it. The problem is they allowed this back in the 80s when cameras went digital. So this has been going on for almost 50 years. I learned a few years ago when I upgraded from 1/3" camcorder to 1". Spoiler alert 1/3" sensor are smaller than 1/3". Osmo actually has a big sensor considering how small it is. Btw this is nothing new for example monitors size are described by their diagonal (including the frame) and computer memory and hard drive size is smaller than listed because its described using bytes.

    @3:51 companies should clearly state the actual sensor size and not use terms related to legacy camera equivalents as this is misleading to consumers. One look at the Pocket 3, and there should be no debate about DJI being able to fit a full 1" sensor in the first place. The Pocket 3 would have to be physically larger, and higher power consumption for a 1" sensor.

    I use dji osmo pocket 1, 2 and 3 :) The difference between 1 and 2 is nothing except for the joystick and of course the wi-fi microphone. I shoot weddings and quite a few times I put the osmo pocket 2 somewhere on the side and used its sound as a backup. Not a small number of times and some video parts. The OP3 has jumped in recording quality a lot compared to the OP2. I use a lot of frames, even in the hall I sometimes shoot with the OP3 and I am very happy that I can combine them. It is small, cheap, and of good quality. You are right about the size of the sensor. There is no point in lying to get customers. Whoever buys such devices knows why he buys them and what results he can expect. And the price is almost always justified. Nikon is the best for me for photos, sony and lumix for video, and OP3 as a back up and using some frames to make the recording more dynamic. I immediately noticed that it was not a 1 inch sensor when I took a couple of photos ;) HORRIBLY BAD QUALITY, now I want to know how it is that the video is of such high quality in that small body :) greatings from croatia

    I upgraded from the original Pocket to the Pocket 3 solely for the 1" sensor and it's improved low light performance because of this. I am shocked by this video! having said that, I am very happy with it's performance, but nobody likes being cheated! There is no way that DJI would have sold as many if they came clean. They should be taken to task over it, but being a state funded company, so good luck with that! I think Sony released a smart phone with its 1" inch sensor, but the optics only covered about half of it. I think people were quick to see through the smoke and mirrors. @avicreates 25 днів тому

      Hey, with the Scarlett I found that I had to max out the gain setting and then pull it back like a 1mm turn, very very slightly. It only worked at the max end of the gain. Does the usb c work? If so why not just use the usb c side of the pod mic. I also had to turn the 48V phantom power setting OFF on the Scarlett. so make sure that setting is off and see how it works. Also try Updating the Scarlett firmware then try either port to make sure it's not just one port that may have an issue. Let me know if any of those things helped. Anyone who is at all familiar with cameras knows how the sensors are named and compared. Anyone who is not familiar with camera will not care because the whole concept is meaningless to them. Simple. It's hardly a lie. Can you name any camera with such a sensor which is not described as a one inch sensor?

    • @avicreates
      @avicreates 26 днів тому

      There’s many articles write about this. It’s false advertising. Theres many tech videos that talk about this too, like the one I referenced in the beginning. If you watched the end, where I make reference to Sony, or read the pinned comment you will see what I mean. It’s about burying the technical details. E.g. Sony lists the actual size on their technical specs and call it a 1 inch “type” sensor on the technical specs page. DJI marketed it as a 1 inch sensor, even their images on the website show this an also listed this on their technical specs page. To each their own, I suppose. But if you read the comments you can clearly see that people appreciate learning about this and it’s far from being meaningless to the people that didn’t know.

    • @Ozpeter
      @Ozpeter 26 днів тому

      @@avicreates I think you should make a video about drive capacity too. A 1TB drive doesn't hold 1TB. A brass band often includes percussion instruments which are not brass instruments. 35mm film does not produce an image having any dimension of 35mm. You are confusing names with specifications.

    • @avicreates
      @avicreates 26 днів тому

      @Ozpeter that will be a negative on my end! If you are comfortable with companies misleading consumers to increase sales then that’s on you and you are complacent in the matter. I could care less about brass instruments and storage. I suggest you make those videos. Your willingness to diminish the fact that’s it’s not true is part of the greater issue though. This is the real problem! Not because something is “accepted” makes it right in anyway. By the way, great content on your channel, I love seeing the older generation creating on UA-cam. I genuinely mean that! Keep up the good work! cheers 🙂

    No, it's not a surprise at all. I have experienced the worst issues with every camera, and each year, I buy the next big thing and get the same bad results. Never again! However, I love the output on the Pocket 3; I hope and pray no one hits DJI with a lawsuit for false advertising.

      Hi, it's a real great little camera indeed, gotta say I love it. I doubt they will get a law suit about this tho, if they ever decide to change anything, it'll be to just put the dimensions on their spec page lol. that about it. Looking forward to your like and Sub! =)

    I think what you broke down here using calculations was a great explanation and I can appreciate that. However, I don’t think that DJI’s specs sell us on a device that doesn’t produce a high quality, 1” sensor-like 4K image. Now if they marketed the camera this way and the real world results show the camera producing much less than 4K resolution images that are comparable to a true 1” sensor with the appropriate aperture setting, I would be GREATLY concerned. Aside from that, this seems like it was a well researched and thought out video.

    Very interesting insight. Thanks you! I hope that DJI has watched this video and will consider how they represent products. It comes down to whether the company wants you to trust them vs. instilling trust through actions. Sony has matured enough at this point that they probably think nobody can compete with them, so they are not concerned with being more transparent. It's not going to dissuade someone from buying Sony. DJI is trying to compete with questionable competitors, so they are more likely to say 'just trust us' and push the marketing hype so they can get the sale. Hopefully DJI is maturing and will feel confident enough to be more accurate and transparent in their marketing.

    Think of it this way: here in the USA when you build a house, you use a piece of lumber that is referred to as a "2 by 4". That name comes from the fact that decades ago this particular piece of lumber measured 2 inches by 4 inches by whatever length you needed. However in modern times the lumber is actually slightly smaller in size but is still called a 2 by 4. Not a perfect analogy I know because we all know about the difference and the name is taken for granted. But the lumber still works and does the job...just like the "1 inch sensor". Is it deceptive? Yes. Does it change the quality of the video coming out of my Pocket 3? No. I happen to like mine and I'll continue to use it because it works for my needs. I hope that doesn't make me a bad person for not getting hung up on sensor size...but honestly, who out there that knows ANYthing about cameras really thought the Osmo Pocket 3 had a 1 inch sensor in it? It's just not physically possible.

    I thought it was like how actual storage space on a memory card or disk drive is always smaller than advertised. However, I guess storage devices can justify it as it is the actual overall storage space. Even though you can't use some of it due to overheads or other system files - it's actually there. I thought these 1" sensors had some area on the sensor which wasn't accessible because it was round or something like that. But I guess now that's not so much the case. Then the sensor isn't any more 1 inch than a foot is the actual length of a person's foot!

    • @avicreates
      @avicreates Місяць тому

      Yea, one thing I’d like to see is a setting that gives you the ability to record use the full sensor. That way you can utilize the footage for both horizontal and vertical formats.

    • @conradk
      @conradk Місяць тому

      It wasn't always that way. Originally storage resellers advertised the total possible size, and probably rounded up from there. Then consumers filed a class action saying that the actual 'usable' size was much smaller and the marketing was misleading. I think that DJI customers are happy enough with their product that there probably won't be a class-action.

    Transparency would be good on the part of DJI. But you gave measurements in mm and cm but not what percentage of an inch those are (or I missed that). Clearly the lens is so tiny it couldn’t actually be an inch. I appreciated your clarifying this. I have the pocket 2 and 3. Mostly I noTice ease of use improvements on the pocket 3. I need to compare footage shot under equal conditions.

    • @avicreates
      @avicreates Місяць тому

      So it’s about 0.63 of an inch. At the 0:45 sec mark theres a photo with a generic “1-inch sensor” even tho the height and width tend to vary, the diagonal is always 16mm approximately. The sensor size when compared to the pocket 2 is about double. The pocket 3 still gives some stellar results for being a small sensor. Thanks for stopping by, like and subscribe if you’d like 🙂
