"Bowtech Reign 7 Re-Build" for 2023
Join along as Josh goes over all the new accessories he has added to his 2017 Bowtech Reign 7 for the 2023 season! Last season was Josh's first hunting out of a treestand, so this rebuild was focused on improving comfort for the stand; but Josh also found a lot of minor improvements towards accuracy with these changes!!
If you are looking for more archery content, we also just uploaded a "2-part arrow build" using Black Eagle X-Impacts. These arrow builds go into much greater detail than this short clip does, so be sure to check them out!
We would love for you to subscribe to this channel to keep up to date on our future hunts and follow us on IG @sheepdog_conservation for all our other shenanigans.. thanks so much for watching!

Caliber?
6.5 creedmoor!
You can’t measure all of life’s pleasures with antlers. Great job and thanks for sharing the family tradition with us!
How much the rifle weigh?
@@bryonjmordhorst I’m packing it up for an antelope hunt so I just had a chance to weigh it and it is 12lbs. Since the video I’ve added a spartan precision bipod, bag rider and a hefty arca plate that are part of that weight! I believe in the video I describe how it is so balanced that it feels much lighter than it weighs and even after seeing it is now 12lbs, the thing feels like 9-10lbs. I think I also mentioned how all of the components I went with were the most budget friendly from XLR and OMR.. they both offer options that look the same but shed a lot of weight with magnesium chassis, titanium action, etc.. it is just more money! Be sure to subscribe because I am halfway through my next build on a 6.5 creedmoor and I am aiming for a 6-9lb “mountain build”, but still keep it cheaper than the 7remmag build in this video (about $3500 w/ scope and all)!! Thanks for watching and reaching out!
I know that canyon, its not for the faint of heart
The unit has more canyons like that than any of the other big hunts and that is why we chose it!
Under 600 yards! Hunting now!
20:03 outstanding video of Father and Son hunting and harvesting the big one , a huge bull elk which is now displayed in the home
Thanks for watching Uncle Jimmy!!
Do you know if Amend2 AICS mags will work with this?
I would try to reach out to XLR through their website to make sure because they now offer a newer model chassis and different magazines! This video is the 3.0 and my magazines are mdt AICS, but now they have the 4.0 and the build page offers hawkins magazines with it it.
Got my T3x Roughtech yesterday, stainless, 6.5CM. Mated it with an XLR Element 4.0 Magnesium chassis today. Such a nice combo!
Great to hear and glad you like it! They released the 4.0 as mine here was being built so mine is one of the last 3.0s! Going to have a t3x 6.5cm build here on the channel soon!
What magazine are you using?
Great question! I didn't think to mention that, but if you are going with the XLR chassis they offer MDT AICS magazines as an add on when customizing your chassis! Not sure if they still do or if they offer the same magazine for different calibers/capacities
I siliconed the top of the lid and made it waterproof. Really easy
Can't wait for my XLR for my Tikka 22 Creed
Are you getting it fancied up by OMR also?? The OMR/XLR is a great combination, you will love it regardless!!
No I ordered it the magnesium Element through them. Suppose to be coming next month can't wait! Probably be a second one ordered once I get it lol
We use the same cases for our gear. Actually we have those, a Roam case, some wolf packs, a couple of Milwaukee Packouts, and a Pelican case. I had planned to do a comparison video, but never got to it. Having them all, I can say that bang for the buck, Ridgid is by far the best choice on the market.
Great minds think alike! Thanks for watching! I agree these ridgids are the best bang for buck! Got the idea using milwaukees for construction work, but even when using them for a job to make money they are quite a bit more spendy than the ridgids!
@@SheepdogConservation Right, Packout needs to be for wort to justify its cost. I have 2 of the small clear top Pack outs with the plate mounted the wall of my trailer with FAC, and common used gear like headlights. The only reason is they have the only solution for that need.

God what a beautiful family experience and hunt!!! It brought tears to my eyes!!! That it what hunting is all about!!! Congratulations
Thanks for the kind words! It was definitely a special hunt, I'm hoping theres a few more like it in store for me and dad!! 🙏
Regular ol dead eye 😂 elk slayer machine rough and tough and quite clearly can't get enough 😂😂😂 excellent hunting excellent video probably broke his leg fighting i would say .
Thats right Dale doesn't miss! He has still been fighting the back injury ever since, but has managed to arrow 2 more bulls since! We've been slacking on filming but are hoping to capture some hunts in 2024!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Nice video. I’m currently shooting the revolt x. Been thinking of getting a reign 7.
Thanks for watching!! The reign 7 is such a smooth bow I love it!! However I do want to upgrade so that I can get the bowtech deadlock system and learn hot to tune my own bow! The revolt has the deadlock cams right?? That’s a tough call but I will probably always keep the reign 7 as a backup!
@@SheepdogConservation due to the yoke system there actually pretty easy to tune, the only thing is, you need a bow press were as the newer Bows from bowtech you can paper tune without a press, that being said if you're getting a high or a low tear due to cam timing you will need a bow press to get it back in time so your back to where you started, that being said, Getting a press and learning to work on my own bow was the best thing i've done, surprisingly it wasn't that hard, and as far as upgrading I just can't find a bow on the market that performs better, there just easier to tune and the only bows that are easier to tune are the newer bowtechs, the majority of the new bows on market are definitely harder and a lot more time consuming to tune, even having to buy extra tuning kits to get the job done.
@@tonyallen8626 that is a good point, I have not gotten into tuning myself but want to so I will have to keep this bow until I get around to having my own press! If I'm considering getting a new bow the bowtechs with the deadlock system are definitely at the top of my list... but each year I continue to get better and better with this Reign 7, it is such an easy bow for me to shoot I have a hard time wanting to "learn a new bow"!!
Have you had any regrets with the crate since it’s not waterproof? I’ve been thinking of using these boxes for camping since they’re water and dust proof and budget friendly. Great video! I’d be interested to see how you pack some of the other kits you mentioned at the end of the video too. Thanks so much!
Thanks for commenting! No regrets with the crate but the 3-4 I have are ones that wouldn't see much field usage, if they do leave the house they normally stay in the truck or tent more than the other boxes! Thinking about getting another one for my actual work tools and gear to stay in my truck during the week.. weekend warrior life! 😂 I have a few archery/arrow videos that I'm working on but if people request like you did I am more than happy to revisit old videos!
@@SheepdogConservation Thanks so much for responding! A little tip I found for a kaizen foam alternative is to order the foam replacement for the Apache cases at Harbor Freight. They have a replacement parts section for each one. The Apache 5800 (Pelican 1510 equivalent) replacement foam is only $25. Depending on the dimensions and how much you need, that might end up being a cheaper alternative to look at as you continue making more kits. Keep up the great work on your videos!
This is a great video man. Good editing. Good commentary.
Thanks for giving it a watch and commenting! Hoping to get on another big-time hunt like this soon because I do wish I packed the dslr for this one instead of primarily phone footage!! Both of us have tags for an Idaho whitetail hunt this year and may or may not be making a film about grandpa's rifle we just got passed to us!! Stay tuned and good luck on your fall season!!
Nice shootin pops
Watched both episodes!!! Very awesome to share that. Great memories. Your dads bull had very similar genes like you said!!!
Thanks for giving them a watch! Had to give a shameless plug because you guys’ “no quit” attitude on all your shed hunts really is what it takes in the specific country!! Hope you guys have points and are getting your name in the hat to hunt nearby because I’m pretty sure you’d make it look a lot easier than we did! 😎
Also I’m not sure if I said it on your video but I’m pretty sure your 7pt shed is the XL version! Mainly looks longer on the beam my dads was 48”, there is nothing prettier than those bulls they really are special!
@@SheepdogConservation that 7 point was right at 50 inch main beam. What you see is what you get with us! Glad you enjoy the videos. We enjoy making them.
Good vid, thanks for sharing. Congratulations on a successful hunt.
Thanks for tuning in! 👍🏼
I live in Oregon last year I had a cow elk tag didn’t get anything this year I have a mule deer tag
Interesting recap and it's great to hear from a family that works and plays together sharing each other's interests and hobbies and family business . We sure need more of that . congratulations on your elk 🙂
Thanks for watching! Hope it all made sense it was a hard one to put together
Very cool… cherish those moments with your pa .. 18 points and counting
Absolutely!! Best of luck when it’s your turn soon!!
Hunting over hay ?🤔
It is legal to hunt over bait for deer and elk in Oregon! The spoils of private access when ranchers are experiencing ridiculous crop damage from these critters!
Binatang itu kl di pulau atau di kebun binatang y aman......
Go Beavs!
You know it!! 😎 was filming this while they where still playing in the CWS this summer!!
Nice shooting 👍 love the Sig, got mine in 308 WIN 👍 What is the wrap on the for-end?👍🇨🇦
Thanks for watching!! We love the sig too! It is a Armageddon suppressor cover.. it mainly works really good to reduce mirage if your shooting quite a bit at once!
@@SheepdogConservation No Suppressors Not allowed in CANADA. Go figure. Not a good scene up here in 🇨🇦 Glad to have my Cross 308 Win & Sako S20 300 Win Mag and Franchi over/under 👍👍I’m happy, hopefully we get a better understanding government one day soon.
@@north4961 you where asking about the wrap on the end of the gun right? That is a bummer deal, we are always on edge here in the U.S. protecting our gun rights.. hopefully we can both make some headway on it and gain some ground at some point!!
Thanks for sharing this wonderful movie with us. I would love to do something like that.... Whimpi.. Indonesia....
Thanks for watching! I try to keep the pack pretty simplified, to help others get started too.. didn’t think I’d be reaching to Indonesia, I’m sure you guys have some awesome mountains!
🌷 𝔭𝔯𝔬𝔪𝔬𝔰𝔪
Good stuff thanks for your time and knowledge
Thanks for watching! Hopefully you can lighten/simplify what you take into the woods this season and it helps your success!!
Is that sig cross a 308 and what scope are you using?
The cross is in 6.5 and Alex’s scope is a Sig also.. I believe it is the whiskey3 in 4-12x50
@@SheepdogConservation awesome! I'm wanting to get me the sig cross ether in 308 or 6.5. But ammo is hard to find for the 6.5. I can find 308 everywhere. What made you choose the 6.5 cm over 308? If you dont mind me asking.
@@justinseeton5240 yeah I just checked the stores yesterday and noticed lots of .308.. 6.5 is available online but not much (I can send you a killer site to search out availability) A few people in our group are getting into comp shooting as well so that’s one reason we started shooting it, and since trying it the ballistics have been great and make it tons of fun to shoot!
@@justinseeton5240 when we started that, ammo availability was not an issue either 🙄
@@SheepdogConservation what site are you finding them? I've been looking at ammo seek and found some.... I know it's hard to make time to make videos but can you do a full video of your complete rig? Suppressor, ammo, bipod, scope review, and accessories? I know the sig cross is a big deal right now and I know everyone including myself are really curious on the limitations or opportunities it might possess. If ya'll dont have time that's cool but it would be neat🤙🏽
Cool..... Get'em Guys!
Thanks for watching!!
Lol 3 clowns decked out in camo for what ever reason just to drop s coyote several hundred yards away. Im sure even with a neon sign strapped to you fucing forehead they wouldnt have seen you.
Love your answer
Didnt show sh*t.eastern oregon is not what I thought 2 years ago.way to many people
There was lots of camps and people driving roads but lots of elk with a little extra work too! Now it’s most all a draw even for archery so maybe you will enjoy it more!
That's what it's all about right there! And one hell of a bull to cap it all off. Unbelievable mass that's carried all the way through to the tip of the antlers!
Thanks so much for watching/commenting, we really do appreciate it!!
I shot three coyotes last month, October with a Model 96 Mauser 6.5mmx 55 Swede. Open sights. I feel better and more proud of those kills than all the other 100 or so coyote kills I have made in my lifetime with weaponized optics.
That is awesome!! Thanks for watching!
Very nice shotings and awesome story. :-)))
Thanks for watching!!
Electric elk calls are illegal in Oregon for hunting elk just saying
That's good to know, luckily it wasn't working for the other hunter and worked out in our favor for a little while!
Trying for a whenaha elk tag 15 plus years and still trying for a trophy whenaha elk tag
That is awesome, have you seen the 2 wenaha hunts on our channel? It was my dads and his lifelong hunting partner but it took them 20pts! I will have 14pts unless I draw it on luck this year!
Great job guys.. nice shooting.
Thanks! just subbed to you looks like you play your part in a little predator management too! 😎👍🏼
@@SheepdogConservation Thank you for your support. Yes I have way to many coyotes around us and need to get numbers down but they are proving hard to get to come in close enough.
@@kazbleasdale1310 thats how the ones closest to my home have always been.. there’s been a few times we get them to come in with hand calls but if they bust us once doing that, then we won’t be able to hand call them for a good year or two!
@@SheepdogConservation I am hoping now they have young we can get a few. Already got a few Cubs and their mum before I started to video my hunts.
Awesome video and the music is really GREAT!
Thanks for watching! We do what we can haha neither one of the camera shots on the coyotes was very good but camera man got lucky and got them both for a brief second.. next one will be better!!
This is so dope! Only type of hunting I can do unfortunately… gotta stack some cheddar and go get me a bow
Thanks for watching! It’s not easy but I wouldn’t trade it for anything! I’d definitely try to get a bow at least by September 2022 if I was you!!
Great second video of a tough hunt .what is the story on the last bull with the infected leg .was the meat any good . Good luck in your future hunts .
Hello sorry for the late response! Most of that quarter had to be left behind but otherwise the rest of the bull was fine and at this point has probably all been consumed! :p
Awesome bull and a great pleasure seeing the love and emotions of sharing and recording special memories. Congratulations.and stay safe and healthy.
Thanks for watching! All the meat has been good so far but we didn’t take the infected quarter out
No

Nice job on the hunt! I noticed the EXO Mountain pack, I have the same one and I love it! Later noticed the bino case too, have that one as well. My hunting buddies call me it the command center with all the stuff I keep on it. Its practically my day pack.
Thanks a bunch for watching!! I love my exo, this was by far the hardest pack out I’ve ever been a part of but the exo made it a breeze compared to back in the day!!
Hi Man. What did you put inside pumpkin? )) it blows like tnt ))
Thanks for watching! It’s called tannerite, it is a legal and safer explosive than tnt. However no explosive is safe and we wouldn’t recommend using much more than a fist sized amount always at safe distances!
Hunted Mule deer in that exact spot many times. Awesome area, great hunt!
A trick: watch movies at flixzone. I've been using it for watching loads of movies these days.
I've heard most of the state of Oregon, I haven't hunted that area yet are the mule bucks and they're worth the hikes?
