Ride Along - Rockhouse Creek Road, FS 451, Pisgah National Forest
Ride along as we explore Rockhouse Creek Road (aka FS 451) near Marks Mountain in Pisgah National Forest. This is a Low Standard (Rough) fire service road open to highway legal vehicles 09/01-12/31. It is an out-and-back ride that intersects with Yancey Ridge Trail (foot, bike, horse use).
If you choose to adventure on this road it is recommended that you have a high clearance vehicle. Adventure at your own risk, and please, leave no trace.
Technical: I used a Rove R2-4K set to the 4K settings. The compression artifacts are quite noticeable. I believe it actually does better set to standard HD. But neither look as good as my 4-year old iPhone.

    Hello! question- did you get any indicator ligths on your dashboard after deliting the Xreas ? is the Xreas connected to the truck computer where it will indicate a problem with an amber light on your dashboard? Here in california, for smog check requirements, your car needs to have NO indicators amber lights on your dashboard regardless if they are not emission related.

      @LiftKitCoffee Місяць тому

      Phil, it has been a great entry-level kit but it may be a little stiffer than some would like. I would say the practical adjustment range for the coilovers is 0-2" but should have no problem handling the weight of an aftermarket bumper. The control arms are strong and gave me the caster adjust I needed. Hope that is helpful.

    • @LiftKitCoffee

      I believe it would be a stiffer ride at 3" of lift. That removes another inch of travel from the shock plus loads the coil with that extra "push down" tension.

      Hi Texas, I'm no expert but my guess for the reason you're not finding this info is that the new springs alone does not increase the towing capacity. There's also the transmission specs for towing, etc. that figure in and Freedom is not suggesting any new capacity for that.

    Hello awesome video about these Coilovers, I have these Coilovers installed on my 2004 4runner from the previous owner and I noticed that my sway bar is hitting the Coilover black adjustment rings. Also would you consider these Coilovers to be more of a bouncy ride that is how I have felt they handled off-road and on speed-bumps. Super interested to hear your opinion on my sway bar hitting I am thinking of raising it at least an inch higher to clear the sway bar.

    • @LiftKitCoffee
      @LiftKitCoffee 6 місяців тому

      Hi and thank you. I don't really have another reference experience to say whether these are more bouncy than another coilover setup. Cranking the adjustment ring up for lift is compressing the spring which in turn removes that amount of travel when you hit a bump, so maybe all coilovers are kinda bouncy if you use them they was they are designed. Regarding the sway bar hitting the adjustment ring, I did a video on installing a relocation kit if you're interested which took care of the problem. ua-cam.com/video/3XiOmR9-CIk/v-deo.html

    Two questions, did you use the Freedom rear blocks and if so what size. I’m worried my 3” blocks will have a rake even with these coil overs near max at 4”. Also I’m very confused as to why you don’t compress the coil to just spin the collar up to desired position? Every one seems to damage the shock collar and put some very hard work into cranking on the thing. And for my extra question… how does it ride?? Thanks!

    • @LiftKitCoffee
      @LiftKitCoffee 6 місяців тому

      Hi. 1) No, I didn't use their rear blocks. I did use their 2" lift springs though. 2) You could use a spring compressor to get the position. There wasn't a lot of info out there when I installed so I just followed the directions. That's one area of the design that could use some tougher materials. Bonus) I'm happy with them and think it rides pretty well. But I will also say I don't have any other lift setup experience to compare it to. It's a budget-friendly, entry option so balancing all those things I think it's a good ride.

    • @LiftKitCoffee
      @LiftKitCoffee 8 місяців тому

      Hey Damian. The lift has held up great. I've got about 6K on the setup. It's been off-road ~10 times and trekked several hundred miles of forest roads. It's a solid entry-level option for anyone just starting the OR scene and/or on a budget. I was both. I will say it's a firm ride but should continue to soften with more miles. If I were installing again I would use a 1 1/2-2" strut spacer to minimize the upwards adjustment on the front strut. That would help with the firmness. Hope this helps.

    • @DG850post

      So you are saying 1-1.5 additional to the lift kit? @@LiftKitCoffee

    • @LiftKitCoffee
      @LiftKitCoffee 8 місяців тому

      @@DG850post The front struts are adjustable so with no adjustment you get no lift. But adjusting them upwards for lift compresses the springs which reduces possible spring travel. The end result is that the more lift adjustment you put on the struts the harsher the ride becomes. My idea is that using a strut lift spacer in combination with adjusting the strut would get the lift you want without cranking the spring up as much, so hopefully the ride would be a bit more compliant. Hope that makes sense.

If you're asking where you put the hydraulic fluid into XREAS if you want to add more or try to fix it, that is not possible. It must be done by an auto service center that has the tools to do it. • @LiftKitCoffee
      @LiftKitCoffee Рік тому

      I think your issue is because of the panhard bar. You can see it running laterally across the rear axle from the top of the passenger side to the bottom of the driver. At just the 2" lift I think your right at the edge of when it starts to affect the things you describe. There's a couple approaches to resolving and (disclaimer) I haven't done either. One is to replace the driver side mounting bracket with an aftermarket that raises the bolt-on position 2 inches. The other is an adjustable panhard bar. You can search around for videos addressing both solutions. If you pull the trigger on one, maybe you'll report back with your experience for anyone else reading here. Hope that is helpful.

On the flip side, if I ever decide to go to 35's I should be ready, except for the BMC and some fender liner trimming. Hopefully the 2UZ V8 will keep me from needing to regear. Thanks for inquiring about the coffee. I have had to put Lift Kit Coffee on "pause" indefinitely to attend to other life matters. I left the link in hopes I can get back to it sooner than later. Apologies for any inconvenience.

    Any speedometer fix?

      @Wartable, sorry, nothing to offer there. I'm over by about 4 mph so I just tend to drive around the speed limit. On the interstate I'll use Waze for their speedo feature.

      @@tracereed7457 I think it was the right choice for me when weighing cost and functionality. I have no other experience with another option, but it is solid, though maybe a bit on the stiff side. I have another video where I show the front install results if you'd like to hear me ramble on about it. Ha ha.

    how do you disconnect the sway bar? 12:50

    • @hillhansberger8695
      @hillhansberger8695 Рік тому

      also is their a maximum you can crank it or will it let you go all the way?

    • @LiftKitCoffee
      @LiftKitCoffee Рік тому

      You can disconnect the sway bar where it connects to the end link with one bolt (each side). That may be enough allowing you to rotate the sway bar up and out of the way. It's been awhile. If not, there are two brackets behind the radiator held on by 4 bolts that hold the bar in place. Not hard to remove but be wary of those bracket bolts being rusted. I snapped one off and had to buy a rivet nut tool to fix.

      @@hillhansberger8695 Freedom says 5" max, but I think that would be a brutal ride with the spring compressed that hard. And cranking on the adjustment ring gets more difficult as that tension builds. I'd say 2-3" max for practical use.

    Easiest way would of been a heavy duty spring compressor for 56 bucks to compress the spring to make it smaller for install

    The axle didn't fall much because it still has the panhard bar and the upper and lower tubular Control arms holding it

      If I ever do another lift install I would definitely disconnect the panhard. I was a little timid about doing unsure how hard it would be to get back together, but in the end it didn't save me any time. Thanks for all your insights.
