    First campaign setting (discussed about the 50 minute mark) was Empire of the Petal Throne, self published in 1974 and then by TSR in 75. Wilderlands was 1977. So that's the first campaign setting.

    Is there a way of verifying whether an Elastolin castle is actually the model 9733 mentioned in the manual? It's more important to get the rough dimensions than have the actual model, I think. Someone could make one out of wood blocks or really anything if they were just interested in playing the game, rather than the historical replication. I hope you post more videos about your playthrough of the game, very few videos out there documenting it.

    Love your timeline!! Yes super cool to see them laid out that way!! I started playing D&D in 1977 and can answer your question on how we did played the early 1978 AD&D 1e modules. We played OD&D and as the AD&D books came on-line we added the rules into OD&D and then I finally switched over 100% to AD&D 1e when the DMG came out. So just a hybrid of the OD&D with the MM and the PHB until 1979. I also starter playing Holme's Basic in 1978 (it came out in 1977). I played OD&D (mostly in a Judges Guild City State campaign). Holmes Basic was the first version of D&D that I DMed in 1978, and first module I ever DMed was the one in the Basic Book -- The Tower of Zenopus.

    Good session zero: especially liked the ground rules part. Interesting for me as AD&D DM back in the 80s how much of the game system we used to hand wave (segments in surprise, nuances of initiative, weapons Vs specific armour). Suspect we did a Basic/expert Ad&D hybrid.

    Just started watching. In the AD&D PHB at the top of page 9 under CHARACTER ABILITIES it states that it's expected that PCs be exceptional and have at least TWO ability scores of 15 or higher. So that has always been my "mulligan" for re-rolling.

    • @undertone_dj
      @undertone_dj 2 місяці тому

      Good call! In the end, we moved to that system. OD&D was just brutal, 3d6 down the line, in order... so we were used to mediocre characters. But yeah, I didn't see the "two 15's" rule till after our session 0. I allowed characters to re-roll their stats that had under that... if they wanted.... I think in the next session.
