Secret of Mana stlye inventory wheel [Game Maker | Basics]
Переглядів 1 тис.3 місяці тому
This basics video tutorial shows you how to make a Secret of Mana style inventory wheel. You create a new wheel instance and pass in 2 values, one array filled with images to be shown (and rotated) and how big one slice of the wheel is. Then you draw each image correctly and rotate it with a small state machine. That's it! Graphics shown: chiecola.itch.io/chom-bombs itch.io/queue/c/398089/mana-...

      It is more convenient. Most games have state machines where in each state you run a different script, so that the code looks more clean. But you can do as you please, so there is no hard rule here.

    This is a much better method for doing this, but this still doesn't cover how to make the dots on the parabola. Any tips for that? I'm trying to make an aim assist for the player, as he is aiming using the mouse to change the arc of the throw.

      Well, that is a bit more complicated, because you need to use now real own calculations/projections how to get there. Hi 1up. Loved the video. it really helped. But I got a question. How do I add the input so I can make the player throw the grenade? Not sure if I missed something in the video but it would really help if I could get help for this.

    • @1upIndie
      @1upIndie 5 днів тому

      Well, normally you store some kind of input (mouse, keyboard, gamepad) and if that is true spawn a new grenade. And you are correct, I did not show how to spawn the grenade, just its mechanics. So, for keyboard you could press space and create a new one. Something like this: var keySpace = keyboard_check_released(vk_space); if( keySpace == 1){ instance_create_layer(x,y, layer, TestGrenade); } There is though a much easier way to do these things (with inbuild values, direction, speed, gravity) shown in this video: ua-cam.com/video/Wdaa_J9rwiM/v-deo.html Hope that helps!

    Great tutorial! I changed the "with" object to my player and it follows it around, do you know how I could toggle the light on and off? Edit, I've also found it isn't persistent between rooms as it draws the rectangle in the room the player spawns in

    • @1upIndie
      @1upIndie 8 днів тому

      Well you can have a variable that triggers it off and on, so something like if (canDraw == true){ with() {....} } Surfaces need to be refreshed so as a best practise if you jump rooms recreate (initialize) the light system anew. Hope that helps!

  • @calvert9568

    I just want my mouse to jump to the same object (obj.crosshair) every time at the start of a room. But this code does not work in the creation event of my control object: window_mouse_set(obj_crosshair.x, obj_crosshair.y); Any idea why it does not work? I thought I could take your simple code there and make it work.

    • @1upIndie
      @1upIndie 8 днів тому

      Maybe the order of your instances is causing this issue. As a failsave you could trigger an alarm in your control instance (lets say at frame 2) to jump then to avoid the issue. create event: alarm[0] = 2; alarm0 event: window_mouse_set(obj_crosshair.x, obj_crosshair.y); Hope that helps!

    • @calvert9568
      @calvert9568 8 днів тому

      Interestingly, this moves my cursor after the alarm (as it should), but it moves the cursor to the top left of the screen. Not where the obj.crosshair is located. I do have views set in this room.

    • @1upIndie
      @1upIndie 8 днів тому

      @@calvert9568 The mouse position is bound to your window (of Gamemaker), gui bound so to say. So if you want to stick it to your crosshair instance you need to convert the value from the position of the crosshair (which is in the relative rooms x,y values). Or do a fake mouse like in this video (which is 1:1 becaues both things are in the same x,y coordinate system (room, view). ua-cam.com/video/1fLyFK8yKKQ/v-deo.html

    I have tried everything in my power to get this circle to appear when I click. all it does is create one as soon as I run it in the top left corner. Any advice?

      Hm, use an instance for the mouse, give it an image and put in the step event x = mouse_x; y = mouse_y; Hope that helps!

    How do you make bouncing balls disappear after a bounce?

      instance_destroy();

    how can I make the gui just select the button instead of tapping it?

    • @1upIndie
      @1upIndie 18 днів тому

      That you need to do with code, so you tap /click on it and set a variable that say active/selected = true, and all other buttons to false. That what you are looking for?

    hola, hay alguna forma de hacer esto en game maker studio 1?

    • @1upIndie
      @1upIndie 19 днів тому

      Sí, pero no es tan fácil. Tienes que hacerlo tú mismo usando un sombreador. Pero GameMaker Studio ha sido gratuito durante unos meses (todas las funciones están ahí, solo que no se pueden usar comercialmente, lo cual está bien), así que te recomendaría que lo hagas en Gms como en el video.

    im trying to learn with drag and drop and I really want a bird to swoop into the scene and steal a seed based on an alarm and can't figure out how to tell the crow I want its direction to be any existing seed :(

      I know it's not very helpful to say, but don't use drag and drop! there's way less content out there and way less people to help with it, along with it being in some cases kinda harder to use. In general it's especially not worth it the more complicated things get!

      @@SafetyKitten I eventually got my solution for the bird but like you said drag and drop is kind of complicating things Im afraid but Idk how to do normal code :(
