This version is very light on new features, but heavy on bug fixes/performance. While newer features should be coming next year, I feel many of them might make an appearance on GMRT rather than the current GMS version. On December 19 (??) should come the last beta of the year, and with it a preview of the new code editor, which is similar to the one in Defold or GMEdit (from what I can gather).
What? I thought this is/was the "last/final" Gms update and the beta is now focusing on GMRT (whatever this acronym means). If you got some links or a better view please point me to a source.
@@1upIndie Mostly from Russell in the GMS discord, but I get the feeling it's all still up in the air. The next beta is 2024.2, which for now will pretty much be 2023.11 but bundled with the new code editor (hopefully to be released soon). GMRT might be in open beta sometime next year, but from what I'm gathering we are going to be using GMS for a bit there.
@@1upIndie Yes, I've been using it in my multiplayer game which uses rollback multiplayer system. So I switched back to previous version. IDK why they removed it.
After completing a recent update(Version 2023.11.0.121), I confirmed that the mouse button does not work properly when running with the same file. This is the problem I've had - pressing the left and right buttons of the mouse at the same time cancels both inputs completely. (Both buttons operate normally when pressed separately.) In addition, through the game maker community, I have confirmed that this phenomenon is not just a problem for me. I hope they'll gonna fix it later :(
Can you make a Video explaining how to move diagonaly in Grid-Based movement?? I have been looking for that on YT I cant find something alike :( Im struggling with that here on GMS2 :c
I did a video on grid based movement here: ua-cam.com/video/_2agjqJ2pD8/v-deo.html But I am not sure what you mean by diagonal, since grid-based movement is only a 4 way thing and not 8 (with diagonal). If you want to squeeze in diagonal aswell, you would need a "pre turn/project movement" movement because pressing (lets say up and right) is not always a given. Something where you hold down a button and you can see where the movement will go (aswell as diagonal) and by releasing you actually move there. Was that what you were looking for?
@@1upIndie it's different when you want to move one step to de right and one up to diagonally Right&Up, if you want to keep the Grid by grid mivenente you need to improve the code :(
There are good reasons why some still stay on 2.3 because after that they pretty much gutted GameMaker and rewrote a lot in another programming language. But from making small to some actual games, the new versions/updates had really good new features that I constantly use and would not like to miss. So I will stay at least for now on 2023.11 for about 4-6 months in any case. So is an upgrade from 2023.11 to the "new" 3/new runtime a thing? Personally I don't see it, but that may change if I see what they build (and you can too buy installing the beta version). The features listed are mostly convenience features. If you make your game on 2.3 and it all runs well and you have all the features you need, then this can be your standard and won't miss then much. Hope this helps a bit.

Not to shabby, they keep rolling and the reference thing gives some little extra control, back drop shadows is great too!
It is a small but solid "last" update.
in the new version the "Managed" checkbox for objects disappeared :/
Were you using it? If yes, can you elaborate on it (I really want to know). I completly ignored this one.

Ah that sucks. The ongoing meme that they break stuff on new updates sadly still holds truth... Thanks for letting me and community know about this!
@@1upIndie I just hope it wasn't intentional...

Do you think it would be better to upgrade to 3, or stay with 2.3?
