I enjoy anything to do with aviation, cooking, travel, camping and other outdoor activities, so that's what I typically post and like. By day, I manage a law firm. My history includes a stint in the U.S. Air Force from 1977-1981, where I was a crew chief in New Mexico on F-111's and in Japan on SR-71's. After the Air Force, I obtained an accounting degree, then my CPA, and have pretty much been the accountant/business management type ever since. I do actively fly model airplanes now though!
Cruise on the Allure of the Seas - March 2023
Join us for a glimpse of our cruise on Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas, cruising from Galveston, Texas to the Western Caribbean, with stops at Roatan Honduras, Costa Maya Mexico and Cozumel Mexico, and three full sea days.
She is a beautiful ship of the Oasis Class. Several neighborhoods are explored, as well as a few of the specialty restaurants. In addition to what is shown, the Allure presents the Broadway show "Mamma Mia", and it was excellent. We had a great time!

Setting up the Assan AG63Pro Anti-Sideslip Brake Gyro
Переглядів 2,1 тис.2 роки тому
Assan makes this excellent product to counter the sideslip action of Electronic brake systems for RC aircraft. The AG63Pro is the latest version of this gyro. Not only does the unit control brake sideslip, but it includes nose wheel steering correction as well. Bought mine at BrickCity Hobby! www.bcrch.com/ Assan-AG63-PRO-Anti-sideslip-Brake-Gyro This video is intended to provide additional exp...

Join Ed Siegler, a member of the Blount County Model Aviators RC flying club, as he flies his scale model Vaught V-173 Flying Pancake at the Warbirds Over Cleveland (Tennessee) event during Memorial Day weekend, 2019. This is a unique model of quite a unique military aircraft (and Ed wants me to remind all that his model is for sale!).
C-47 Skytrain Maiden and Crash

Sometimes, the unexpected happens. Like when you buy a used model that is supposed to be completely airworthy (bind and fly!), but don't even know the kit manufacturer (if there was one!) to determine if the CG is proper. This maiden flight was pretty short. As they say, a nose heavy airplane flies poorly, but a tail heavy airplane flies once! In this case, about 6 seconds. Lesson learned.
RC SR-71 Blackbird on a Windy Day!
Переглядів 3,6 тис.5 років тому
Very few good flying days this winter, but Pilot Robert and Captain Blaz inspired me to get out there and have fun, even in windy conditions. What better aircraft to “fly” than the venerable SR-71 model from Blitzworks RC! 64mm twin EDF’s, 3S 2800 mah LIHV (11.4V), 60C. It was great fun just seeing if I could get this bird up and down in one piece! Thank you Pilot Robert and Captain Blaz. I sal...

Climb aboard a KC-135 Tanker as she provides a full aerial fuel load to an SR-71 flying out of Kadena AB, Okinawa, Japan in 1981. Apologies for the poor condition of the VHS video (new technology at the time!) and audio. Video shot by Tech Sgt. Dave Burns, who received special permission from the Detachment Commander to film.
My experience as an SR-71 Crew Chief in 1981
Переглядів 92 тис.8 років тому
I served in the USAF from 1977 through 1981, but my time as a crew chief on the SR-71 at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan from July, 1980 through December of 1981 was by far the most rewarding time of my Air Force career! These clips are true vintage VHS. The launch and recovery video sequences were all shot by friend Dave Burns, who received special permission from Det 1 Commander Col. Raphae...
Mid-Air Collision at Joe Nall 2016

A P-51 and Dornier 335 collide during the noon demo show. There were 9 warbirds flying a loose formation when the two met right at center stage. Not sure what happened, other than we can see the Mustang start oscillating in front of the Dornier, but if anyone can enlighten, feel free to comment.

what are the advantages of such an aircraft?
It's cool to see you were a part of the program, who got to see up close to a miracle of a plane that was built, the speed, the altitude will never be matched, I saw this plane fly in Cal, 9 or 10 years, it was the coolest thing I had ever see, at age 48, it's still the coolest thing I have ever seen, thank you for posting this video. I love the Blackbird, I wish to see it fly again, an air show, the plane was and will always ahead of it's time.
Was Brian Shul there when you were? I really love his recounts, both written and spoken. RIP
Back in ‘87 I had the pleasure of maintaining the oil/water separators for that JP7 fuel the plane used. This video brought back fond memories, I was amazed at this airplane. 👊🏽
Good first effort at making a video. I would have loved to have seen a before controller and an after.
Thanks! My jet definitely tracks straighter on rollout than before. I should have filmed a landing before and after. I guess that’s what you mean. Thanks for your comment.
@@dtkristy1 Yup, a before and after is much better than just your analysis. When I was learning video production an award-winning mentor said to watch your presentation without sound and the pictures should tell the story... many years later I add use font too! Good luck.
That pilot of 975 looked like B.C. Thomas.
It was.
Days we won't forget.
Thanks for the video! I assume these were the Chevy 454 start-cart engines? Or were they the OG Buick Wildcat ones? REALLY cool man - thank you again. Feel like I was born about 20 years too late.
I'm gonna say it was the Buick Wildcat ones because we just called them "the Buicks"! Thanks for your comment.
I would like to say..THANK YOU. For your service and personal sacrifice to keep this nation free... and just kick ass on any other country that thinks they know how to build and airplane. Teehee!
I have the brake gyro assigned to my right knob on my NX10. It works. However, the brake activates very quickly and when I have the knob turned from end point (free spinning - no braking) to about 20%. I would like to apply the braking slower (longer travel on the right knob). Did you have the same issue and if so, did you also try to make the travel longer?
The JP brakes are not proportional. On or off. Still, rather than the knob, I would use a mix with down elevator. Much more natural!
very cool to see this, thank you.
helpfull video thanks. Did you have to tune the brakes with the end points for brake preassure so they dont just lock up?
No, I did not. Actually, my understanding is that this brake system is not proportional (they are just on or off), but this gyro works perfectly in adjusting for sideslip by braking or not braking each wheel. I get a straight rollout every time and no skidding.
Was in 9th SRW OKINAWA 81-84
Love it when people just let it ride and video speaks for itself! Thanks for the ride. We board for our 3rd Allure in September!
SIXTO!!!!! - He's great. He serenaded us as well. He and Gaurav were amazing in the main dining room!
My dad was crew chief for the SR71 also. We were stationed at Beale Kaden then Beale again. Enjoyed watching this!!
Kadena
different, but I liked this video. No bs just to fill time. Refreshing.
Flaps on or not.. it was tail heavy and the end was inevitable.
You think back at that time would think having a video camera anywhere on base would just be against policy. I think everyone knew even at that time just how rare this aircraft was even at that time. Looking back, we find that it is even more rare that nothing has ever replaced it or beat some of its records.
I was a 16-year-old kid back then. My best friend and his dad took me on vacation to CA around the time of this video... As my friend's dad had worked at Beale, we had the chance to go for a visit. Early one morning his dad woke us up and we drove to the base. Just before sunrise, we watched a couple KC-135s take off from the vantage of a nearby hanger. Then, an hour and a half later, we climbed into the front seat of one of those green pickup trucks and drove to within 50 yards of a Blackbird going through its pre-flight, just as shown from about @12:00. When those 2 amazing engines rambled up - the pickup truck shook like a carnival ride. When the 71 finally took off, the AF guy in the truck leans over to us and says the Blackbird will catch up with those tankers, (that had been flying west for at least an hour or so) in about 15 minutes. What a plane. And then, as a bonus, we watched a U2 land with a chase car. I'm in my late 50s now - and recall that day like it was yesterday. OK, maybe at my age it was like last month. But that's not bad recall.
is this the same for the ag68
I’m not at all familiar with the AG68. Sorry I can’t help you there.
David, thankyou so much for sharing this rare, special and beautifully shot documentary of the support of an aircraft that arguably helped to prevent World War 3. Best wishes!
Who can forget the first time they saw an image of the SR-71? It will most-likely be my forever favorite. (I'm 56) I do like to wonder about what the USA hopefully has flying and protecting our freedoms. Thank you so much, Chief Kristy. Is it possible to be grateful and yet entirely envious of you? Cheers!
Wish they had kept 2 of them flying for us to see !!!
Loved the video. Added bonus was you were using it on a plane I just purchased and using the same radio. Could you share your radio setup and tell me where you got your plane to CG at? Thanks in advance.
I’m sorry for the delay in answering, as I just saw your comment. As I recall, my CG is right at where the manual calls for it. Radio setup is very standard, but I did do a mix of the brake channel with down elevator. I use a Spektrum system, so the methods may be different, but I had to play with the percentages a bit in order to activate the brakes with full down elevator.
Did you know John Voiles?
Even though it was in the 70’s it’s still odd that they let you take film of that bird getting ready to go. I was reading in some spy book that one of the places that they would go first was the toy store and buy a plastic model kit.! For what ever aircraft that was new. Makes sense now looking back on it. Great drawings and some information and pictures to boot. What did it take to become a crew chief on a aircraft that was the only one in the world? Just the fact that it was gonna leak. Must have put the engineers back for a month or two. I had the model of the YF-2A. Back in 68. (I think that’s the right id number) Had the falcon style and color missile.
This was shot in 1981. VHS but back when the camera was separate from the recorder (camcorders came out a couple years later), connected by a cable. As for being a crew chief on this bird, probably a bit of luck involved. They said there were about 30-35 SR-71’s produced in total. Thanks for your comment.
Absolutely love this plane. I sought them out wherever I can in San Antonio, NYC and the Air and Space Museum. I read about a Senator coming to look at one in development in the 1950s sitting on the runway leaking fuel till the skin of the plane heats up and expands during flight like here in the hanger. How nice it must have been to be involved in its operation. Thanks for posting this.
I bet it vibrates a whole hell of a lot less than the real thing lol
nature is so beautiful. this raven is being fed by its mama.
This is amazing footage. Guess not too top secret at this point. Just the normal activity around the flight line is fascinating. Thank you.
whoa listen to that v8
I own a black flightsuit with Sr71 test team stitched on the back and nasa and the name joe on the front. Would love to know more about it. Glad to share pics of it to anyone who may know more about such a piece
I was there at the same time on a month long deployment with USMC from Iwakuni, August of 81. Great E-club. Did you ever hear about the enlisted Marine who KOed the Air Force Captain at the E-club?
Never heard, but feel free to tell the story!
@@dtkristy1 well, it didn’t end well for the Captain. It’s a crazy story. If I tell the details it will sound like a bs story but it’s not. Busy now, Ill get back to you. Like they used to say on the old cop shows, I’ll “change the names to protect the innocent.”
So you only did 4 years and got right into the Blackbird program? No disrespect but I figured it would take many years of experience to get to that level
2 1/2 years before being assigned to the program! Not sure what to make of this comment. Are you indicating that you are impressed or doubtful? No need to be either. The SR-71 is an elite aircraft, to be sure, but it is an aircraft requiring much of the same maintenance as many others. Experience among the maintenance crew was as varied as anywhere else too. Plenty of “junior” level personnel as well as “senior”. I was nothing special. I lived in a dorm, ate at the chow hall, and swept up jet fuel like anyone else. Well, OK, other jets don’t leak fuel like that, but whatever! Prior to the SR-71, I worked on F-111D’s at Cannon AFB in glamorous Clovis, New Mexico!
What an awesome life experience that must’ve been
Hello David about myself 9th OMS Beale 86-90. I need help finding TEB servicing video. I serviced TEB and would much appreciate a video. Great video.
How much did the 'stick' that holds up the canopy cost?
😂 I have no idea!
Lived on Okinawa as a kid 80-83 your video brought back memories especially the night launch. Nothing roared into the sky like the Habu!
When are we going to talk about it's it's actual speed clue it'll be the 30-30 bullet.
Like a dragon coming in and out of a cave. Most menacing coolest piece of badassery ever built.
I got to Yokota Air Base, Japan in January 84. I was admin in a comm unit there. The only connection I have to you and yours was that the "Frequency Managers" for the entire Pacific theater were in my office. I never got wind of any attempts to shoot one of these birds down but I did know about every attempt at meaconing, intrusion, jamming and interference (MIJI) that so many fliers had to deal with. All of it was classified. You had an incredible job and you did it with distinction! The United States military, all volunteer, all willing to go when the balloon drops are the greatest people I can think of. Thank you for your service. Andrew L. Miller, Sgt (Ret), USAF
David what was name of the units to start this beast? I know Buick 400cc engines were used. Would love to search for one in surplus. Hat over my heart to you and crew for your service and awesome job well done !
As I remember, we just called them “Buicks” or “Buick Start Carts”. Some of them are on display with the SR-71’s in museums.
👍👍👍👍
who was the woman on the crew?
Her name is Beverly, a very good friend of mine to this day. First female crew chief in the program.
@@dtkristy1 Hey David I see you're still making comments after all these years of posting this video....lol it just popped up I wasn't even watching SR videos but anyways I was going to mention that I never got a chance to meet any of the ladies that worked with you guys in the hangar they never came up to my office for some reason.....lol. The only gal that came up regular was Linda Langston from Environmental Shop just before every debrief we would hang out in my office and shoot the breeze and I was always flirting with her and she didn't care I don't think she ever told Roger her husband who worked in the Engine Shop.....at least he never said shit....lol I liked her she was so damn cute....lol we just had fun talking. They left before I did in 82 I think they went to Offutt but anywho....it's nice to see your video is getting alot of good traffic.....oh yea I still couldn't see my damn picture in that squadron photo......I probably didn't even show up....lol Nice chatting it's now 10/26/2022 maybe I'll catch more of your comments on another video. Take care maybe I'll run into someone else one day from Kadena........Leonard Watson, TSgt
My world with 9th OMS, launch, recovery and all points between, 1972-75. Thanks for the memories.
Watching old footage from say Edwards, the X-15 days even this footage you see these Buck Rogers, sleek prototypes, research aircraft. The space suit wearing pilots. Then a car or truck appears and you realize just how OLD and antiquated the vehicles are. Hits me like watching a old western movie and and if a Lamborghini Countach roared by.
That brought back memories as my family went there soon after it opened when I was a kid. we're from the metropolis of Sweetwater, TN. From a drone I presume? Happens I'm the current prez of a local parkflyer club.
Tail heavy and you went with no flaps? That's a bit weird
