I'm sharing an update on my life and business as a dentist in California. I've been practicing for four years and have managed my father's dental startup for three. The business quadrupled in size under my leadership, but now it's growing so fast that our small office space is a problem. I handle both clinical and managerial tasks, making me the bottleneck. My amazing team has stepped up lately...

So basically stop eating hispanic food. No
4 never go to a dentist office that cleans your teeth in 3 appoinments, appointment 2 is actually just a sales pitch to invisaline
I don’t recommend chlorhexidine because long-term use can build up more plaque and this color your teeth. I recommend a product that you can buy on Amazon called elemental or therabreath. Listerine and other mainstream mouthwashes often have alcohol, alcohol, and are often acidic.
What mouth wash would you recommend ? I use chlorhexamed currently, find it better than Listerine

So how do you use it to listen to Zoom calls? It's ok for phone calls and recording live but again now sure how it's used with Zoom?
I don't use it for zoom calls Duaine, I use Fathom to record zoom calls. Which is another awesome AI.
@@Dr_andrewchoi Thanks for the reply. I'm love my Plaud and will try the Fathom although I don't use Zoom much.
i am proud of you doctor, i wish one day to become like you, i am learning from you how to create my path in dentisty especially i am ex- architect :)

I’ve just got it and love it!
What do you use it for? How do you like it after a month?
@@Dr_andrewchoiI use it to record work phone calls and keep summaries, and I use it for my meetings to then file the summary. I used to write copious notes and now I can listen to the meeting ! For informal meetings I use and share the summaries.

Really recommend SPIN selling for the natural communication that lead to closes. Great stuff again!

Welcome Corey! Thanks for the comment and encouragement!
Underrated point about training front-end staff, and not many willing to have the uncomfortable conversation that all healthcare offices should be having! Recently came across your channel Dr. Choi, looking forward to rest of this journey of yours.
Thank you for leaving a comment. This gives me a lot of encouragement to keep going! Thank you

Whoo hoooo!
Would like to hear your perspective on practicing in California/saturated area. I'm from CA and would love to move back but I feel like in another state I make more as an associate than what I hear most owners make in CA. Why do so many struggle there? And do you feel like it can be predictably overcome if you're smart about it?
In my opinion, the struggle comes from competition and politics. I’m a strong believer that those who will succeed will succeed anywhere, but there are more struggles in a disadvantageous environment.
How do you go about balancing your professional and personal life? It important to be disciplined and focus on progressing your career, however it’s equally important to take a step back and enjoy life to avoid burnout. How do you find and maintain this balance?
Balancing professional and personal life is indeed a crucial aspect of overall well-being. I approach this balance with a few key principles: Perspective on Work Ethic: I recognize that our generation's work-life expectations differ from those of our parents. For example, my dad worked six days a week for over 20 years, embodying a relentless work ethic. While I respect and admire that dedication, I also understand that our generation places a higher value on work-life balance and personal fulfillment. Hard Work and Enjoyment: I believe in working hard, especially in the early stages of my career. It's essential to build a strong foundation and develop a sense of discipline. However, I also believe that work should be enjoyable. Finding joy in the process and taking pride in my accomplishments helps me stay motivated and reduces the risk of burnout. To be frank, I am not sure yet. I am in the process of figuring it out. I do know that without work, I won't be able to achieve the "success" that I hope to gain. The type of success I want is not easy, so I get my ass to work and discipline myself through it all.
Really look forward to following your journey in parallel as I am getting ready for my own start up journey hoping to open doors in December this year. Please keep it up and can’t wait to see where this journey takes you at the end!
How exciting! Where are you located?
@@Dr_andrewchoi I’m in Maryland close to Washington DC. I can relate so much to your videos and you’ve got some great advice and insights I will be able to utilize along the way

Haha what do you find valuable or interesting?
@@Dr_andrewchoi What I find interesting of these videos is that you seem like you don't want to settle for less anymore because of your past and you want to go all or nothing and I can see you already succeeding with the plan you have!
Who was the mentor and what was it for?
My current business mentor is Mark Hower. It was to help me focus on my next steps and to guide me through my business.
@@Dr_andrewchoi interested to learn what you've learned from him or what the overall goal of it is
@@Dr_andrewchoi nice. Would be interested in a video to learn about what kind of stuff you are learning from him
did you do any dating in the philippines? they love foreigners.
I was scared to lose focus so I did not do much dating in the Philippines
Hey at 9:20 your audio cuts out brotha. Good video though! RN from Dallas TX
Thank you for letting me know!!! Glad to see you got that far 😂 thanks! Hope to see you again!
Someone asked me about the details of my practice. I accidentally deleted the question: My office has 4 ops, 2 part time hygiene, I am FT doc, two PT associates, I do almost everything in terms of clinical procedures, we are a family dental office. Mostly bread and butter, that is what I focus on. I do love surgical procedures so I do 3rds and I plan to focus more in implant dentistry.
How old are you? At what age did you start dental school?
I am 39. I started practicing dentistry at age 34.
@@Dr_andrewchoi Thanks for your reply. Did you change careers? I’m much younger (22) but changed careers from pre-med to software engineering and currently doing an internship so it’s always cool to see people who didn’t just go straight from highschool to their career right away.
How important is discipline in the dentistry industry?
Discipline is important in any type of business and success! It seems to apply to dentistry very much. Thanks for the comment!

We are always selling. Now that said… consider selling through the titles as well. :D I’ve shared Chris Do’s videos with my team many times; he always resonates with my younger team members. Curious are your outbound calls to new business or mostly follow up calls to existing customers?
I love Chris Do, what kind of business do you own? What do you mean by selling through the title? Make a better title?
@@Dr_andrewchoi I was a manager at a medium sized healthcare staffing agency until recently, but since Covid the market has compressed a lot. as of a few months ago I’m back down to an account manager role. I guess I got to the video too early before; the title of the UA-cam video was the name of the video file.
