PCT 2024: The Epic Concludes 🇨🇦
The journey of a lifetime comes to a close at the Canadian border. Arriving at the northern terminus was a surreal feeling, one that I had been looking forward to for years. The class of 2024 was plagued by wildfires, causing me to jump around closures for much of Washington, but I intend to revisit the trail in the future to fill those gaps. The Pacific Crest Trail was one of the most profound and enjoyable experiences of my entire life, and I am eternally grateful for every single moment I spent on it. Thank you for following along, and I look forward to sharing more content about this trail and others in the near future.

PCT 2024: One State Left!

From Timberline Lodge to Snoqualmie pass. The end of Oregon was beautiful, but Washington immediately presented some nasty weather. An impromptu trip to town let me reset and warmup, and the weather going forward looks ideal. This will be the second to last episode of the series as I rapidly approach the Canadian border!! #pacificcresttrail #pct #thruhike #pct2024 #backpacking

From Crater Lake to Timberline Lodge. 24 hour challenge into Timberline was an absolutely epic test of both mind and body. Crushed my own expectations & spent the next two days recovering while enjoying the festivities at PCT Trail Days 2024. In the next episode, I'll be hiking from Timberline back up to Cascade Locks and then starting whatever is accessible in Washington, as wildfires continue...

The last bit of Northern California, crossing into Oregon, celebrating my birthday, family time, and Crater Lake! Mostly enjoyed this section, surprisingly beautiful and unique landscapes. Especially thankful to spend some time off trail with family, always a welcome break from the day to day grind. Excited to see the rest of Oregon & experience Trail Days as a proper thru hiker in the next epi...

The journey from Tahoe to Mt. Shasta. This stretch started out well, covering over 90 miles in the first 72 hours. Lots of trail magic along the way too, a very welcome surprise every time. Unfortunately, the Park Fire that started near Chico, California was growing exponentially during this time and I ended up downwind of it. With ash raining down from the sky and an air quality index over 400...

The end of The Sierra and onto Northern California! Hard terrain, high temperatures, and afternoon thunderstorms. Incredible scenery made it all worth it though, and I'm excited to get back to some flatter miles. Pushing big miles from here on out. #pacificcresttrail #pct #thruhike #pct2024 #backpacking

From Bishop Pass to Mammoth lakes including Muir Pass, Selden Pass, and Silver Pass. This is an insanely beautiful stretch of trail with grand mountains and dozens of incredible water features. Got to spend a couple days in Mammoth Lakes to recoup & and enjoy Independence Day as well. #pct #pacificcresttrail #thruhike #backpacking #johnmuirtrail

Reestablishing my continuous footpath from the Southern Terminus to Kennedy Meadows South. This stretch was the only part of the trail I had skipped to this point, but I knew we'd be back to reclaim it. A quick overnight covering 46 total miles, this section was absolutely beautiful and I'm super glad we hit it before I jump off trail for a few weeks. None of this would've been possible without...

Section from Deep Creek Hot Springs to Agua Dulce! I quite enjoyed this section, very scenic and got to link back in with a few people I had split up with after my double zero from last episode. The journey from Idyllwild to Deep Creek Hot Springs. Seeing how much the landscape and weather can change after just one full day of hiking has been insane. Trudging through snow one day, sweating like crazy on the desert floor the next. This stretch has been especially beautiful, with ridiculous amounts of variety and natural beauty packed into each day. #pct2024 #pacificcresttrail #thruhike ...

Recap of the trip from Julian to Idyllwild. Lovely scenery, great stretch of trail, and good company along the way. It's been really refreshing to see such kindness and acceptance from complete strangers, and how quickly a genuine community can be built when we have the same goals. Trail angels offering rides & refilling water caches, volunteers running a community center that caters to hikers,...

First four days on trail! Off to a great start. Resting up in Julian currently, going to take it easy the next couple days. Huge shout-out to Trevor for making the logistics of getting from Cleveland to Campo a breeze, and to Anthony & Gabby at The Julian Inn for being wonderful hosts. This was a great stretch of trail, looking forward to what's ahead. #pacificcresttrail #thruhike #backpacking ...

I just watched this again Phil. So wonderful. 😢
Congrats! When did you finish? How many days did it take you?
Thank you! I finished the first week of September after 123 days on trail. Hopped off for over a month between the desert and the Sierra, and had to skip a couple sections due to wildfires.
@@phil_forrest fires were bad this year, weren't they? did you miss many miles?
@@ruud-kok a couple short sections in California & Oregon, and quite a few in Washington unfortunately. Just the nature of the beast these days. Will get back out at some point to fill in the gaps.

Two states down one to go!!!!! Love it!!!! Now for the cold and wet section, but you will handle it as you did the hot and dry section. But the constant here are the amazing views and big mile days!!!!! Go Forest Go! Looking forward to the next one. 👣👣👣
Well done brother! Keep going!
Looking strong Philip! Stay safe on the final leg of this incredible journey! ❤
Right before you showed the “watch out for bears” sign I said to myself, this looks like prime bear country! Wonderful video! Take good care of yourself!❤
Your videos capture very well what the trail is about. Time alone in the unforgiving wilderness to reflect on what we are and what our place is in it all....and you capture that well by not filling it with excessive commentary. On a side note......Fuck dude! you are a beast! That 24 hour challenge is more than impressive. Now rest and take care of your feet.....you will need them to be happy in WA
@@michaelsalzer4362 thanks man, I appreciate that. You nailed it in your explanation of what the trail is about. I try to keep it balanced between showing the natural beauty while still giving just enough explanation that people understand where I am & what I'm doing. When I'm not filming (which is about 99% of the time) there is an insane amount of solitude, quietness, and contemplation of the bigger picture, exactly like you said.
❤Damn Phil! I’m pretty sure that you’ve rewritten the definition of beast mode! So proud of your dedication & strength. Also, super glad I’m not a watermelon!😅
@@castlehorns I had to dig deep for that one, but the satisfaction was totally worth the pain (as it usually is). And the group I watched the watermelon eating competition with mutually agreed it was almost like watching a zombie movie 😂

Another hit vid! Happy B-day brother (if I heard you correctly, if not happy b-day anyway, lol). Glad to hear you just chilled and enjoyed the views and didn't rush to knock out miles. You're right, "it's not all about the miles" you have to stop, take a deep breath, and let your eyes suck up all the views... See, I'm leaning to PCT though your vids! Enjoy Brother and keep'em coming! Footprint - Footprint - Footprint
Keep going Brother! enjoy it all. I loved that stretch of Oregon for the sections that offered wide open views like Nor Cal. "PCT class of 85" I can't even imagine how tough it was for them then.......May I say...."True Baller!!"
@@michaelsalzer4362 thank you man! Doing my best. They really were mavericks back then, a much different experience than we're having now.
