I love this stuff about the Battletech Centre/VWE history. A fundamental part of the evolution of several things I enjoy (simulationist video games, networked online spaces, Battletech...) which I wasn't around for, so it's really cool to be able to study from the people who were there reminiscing.

It was so cool, I didn't have any questions during the Q&A portion because every time I'd think of something to ask, Jordan would talk about it. 😂

5.50. The first network card, also known as a network interface card (NIC), was developed by Bob Metcalfe and David Boggs in 1973. It was called the Alto Ethernet card and was designed for the Xerox Alto computer at Xerox PARC.

I hope one day CGL is able to bring the entire license back together and get some cohesion in the games and things.

Now I kinda want to make a mechwarrior based off Snake Plissken. Knowing me, it'll probably come off more like Captain Ron.

I've done this! In the Mechwarrior 2nd Ed. campaign I wrote for my players, they rescued a one-eyed pilot named Jake Trissken, callsgn was Snake (natch). He was the new NPC for their lance, to give me the chance to write a heartfelt exit scene, as well as get a heavier machine in their lance over a Spider. It was also inspired by Jake "The Snake" Roberts.
