    You are going to infect Navy with your love of Opal. This is where her life long fascination begins. Can’t wait to see her reaction. Great job there.

    😂 me again... I've really been reading and watching videos about treating opal. They all say cut your stones first. You'll cut the black off when cutting now, but you can always retreat. It sure is beautiful. I've studied how opal is created and why it reacts like it does. You could never close the openings in a opal unless you treated it with something that gets hard like liquid super glue...they are always open and can absorb, even the oils on your fingers. Best part is you can retreat this opal again... Let it completely dry after cutting, don't add heat... I'm surprised it didn't pop or crackle...it could when you start cutting it... I hope you show the cutting video with that treated opal

  • @AlabamaUSA1234
    @AlabamaUSA1234 5 годин тому

    Truly not telling you how to work your opal. I hear you now talking about treating because some didn't do so well... I believe it was the water inside before the sugar... The sugar turns to carbon, no sugar no black.... I'd wash those, let dry in the sun for a few hours and put it back into sugar for a long while and then the acid....the carbon will form... On the big piece, ear rings, necklace and ring.... That would be cool "all from one stone" Enjoying the video

  • @AlabamaUSA1234
    @AlabamaUSA1234 5 годин тому

    Dude, I was surprised to see you hit the opal with a heat gun. Water can vaporize with just light without heat and with heat the water expands.. I'm surprised they didn't start cracking or even popping in half.... thinking you could have more carbon now... Anyway, I'm planning on doing this myself... Does this work with common opal that doesn't have color?

    • @OpalOdyssey-ew9gr
      @OpalOdyssey-ew9gr 3 години тому

      No, it only works on matrix opal that will absorb the sugar water.

    Nice work dude. Just ignore the fanboys that give you a hard time. You’ve spent your money, cut the material on your channel and give the viewers your honest opinion. I don’t see why they get all defensive. I guess everyone that cuts or buys opal has a different plan. Let’s call a spade a spade. Most people, not all but most, get into opal thinking they are going to make money. Some buy as it is their profession. Others buy for investment and collections. The only common factor between all of the different types of buyers is getting it as cheap as possible. And when the vast majority realise they can’t make a living or x10 their money, they just seem to turn into jealous keyboard warriors who’ve wasted their money with poor choices. I believe that if you’re paying $200 for a single stone, you should be expecting at least $275 for a finished stone. The extra value is if you decide to set it in a solid ring. I buy and cut to make jewellery for my mum and daughter as it’s their birthstone. I’ve learned that usually if you budget 60-65% loss of weight for a piece of rough, it makes a “theoretical” value of a finished stone more easy to set. Just work off that figure when deciding what to offer or bid for the piece. For me turning $200 cash into a $300 finished stone is a far better investment than saving it. Parcels of more than 3/4 stones is just a waste of time, unless you see value in it. Just my 2 cents 😂

    I think parcels that essentially are just for practice, ought to be no more than 50. 50 bucks ought to be a huge parcel of practice rough. This lovely stone is a good investment for a quality stone. This stone is beautiful!! The tear drop is perfect for a necklace.

      I bought a 2 oz practice parcel off Mickopals for $50. It didn't cut anything but it was a good learning experience for people I'm teaching to cut. However I also bought a nobby parcel off him for $150 expecting at least 1 piece with color and got clear potch with sand throughout. Don't gamble with opal. Only buy what you trust. That said I have no problems with Mickopal. Good guy, good provider, just not as upfront as you'd think with how clearly he communicates. Nice piece today

    How much gold do you expect and what do you get out of $100 bag of gold pay dirt?

    • @OpalOdyssey-ew9gr
      @OpalOdyssey-ew9gr 3 години тому

      I used to sell bags of gold pay dirt. The seller has to make money so The bags are an opportunity to see real gold in a pan, and about every 10th pan has a little extra over the value. With gold, the value is easily set with opal not near as much until its cut.

    I really like your content I just found your channel but can I make a suggestion if you’re using an iPhone? When you go to record a video press and hold the screen with the opal underneath the camera That way the focus will track with the opal wherever you have it within frame It’ll show you a orangey sorta colour box that has a square going in and out and say A/E and A/F lock
