This video has it all, it's spooky, educational and interesting as hell. I'm really glad the algorythm brought me here, great content man!!
That lionfish and needlefish definitely did kiss
aha I think you might be right, ey. What happens on the reef at night...
You shouldn’t swim alone at night, next time take 3 people with you for safety.
Don't worry, I have a spare tank on me and the appropriate training so I don't run into any problems! It's a bit spooky but perfectly safe. Thanks for the comment :)
@ I think it’s because I’d be scared swimming around at night, I have a fear of getting lost lol. Great video though 👍.
so rude to the tube dwelling anemone 😂
Getting a feature in one of my vids isn't easy! No room for ugly anemones, unfortunately. Needs to be less grey and wave it's arms around more 😂
this vid is just amazing, saw the boxfish for the first time actually, btw u are really brave dude to swim at night alone
SUPER happy you enjoyed it!! Those boxfish are weird, ey? Where did you see it? I'd not seen one before but now I've seen one I seem to be seeing them everywhere. I'm going to leave a camera down on that wreck overnight tomorrow 👀 I thought the solo night diving would be creepy but strangely enough it's not too bad. Would much rather solo night dive than walk around a forest at night 👻
@@barnydillarstone i dont have ocean/sea in my country,so channels like your really help me enjoy the marine life, hyped to see more videos like that, and you are right about forest lol, interesting point
This is such a cool concept before I clicked on the video I thought I saw 1.6 mil views not 1.6k
Oooof I'd love it to be at 1.6 million 😂 only about 1,599,000 views to go!! Thanks for the support and really glad you liked it. Are you a diver? Anything you'd like to see more of?
@@barnydillarstone Yeah I really liked the close up shots of animals with their descriptions, it really felt like I was watching a documentary and I think a lot of non-divers like me would love it. It's crazy what you can see underwater at midnight
Well done for the vid it’s amazing what island are u on because I love fish
I also love fish!! This was filmed in Bali. Have you been? What's your favourite fish? Anything you'd like me to look for?
@ I like moray eels they are so cool
@@gofootball6189 they sure are! There are some monster moray eels round here as well. I'll try and find a big one for you.
Well done for the vid can u tell me where the shipwreck is it looks really cool

@ thx
12:35 - Wtf how did he get out of minecraft??
Haha such a bizarre creature, ey? I assume the bump on the nose is used for attack/defence because every one I've seen since seems to use it to try and chase me off. What was your favourite bit?
I loved the cuttlefish, amazing eye! 860 subscriber
Wooo thanks for the sub! Cuttlefish are great, and they're always happy to be filmed. I found a couple of small little ones on a night dive last night which was very cool. Have you seen a cuttlefish?
Beautiful, looks like outerspace at night. Very good video fella!
Thanks bro! Really appreciate the support. You're a wildlife guy? Do you dive?
@@barnydillarstone Absolutely my guy! I am haha! I'd love to, has always been a dream of mine. But I unfortunately have not 😅😂
@@Erongiloo ahhh man! You'd love it I'm sure. Is there any good diving near you?
@barnydillarstone Oh yeah I definitely would haha. There's possibly some good diving, no clue. I live in upstate New York so I'm not near the ocean. However, I know western New York has Hellbenders in its streams and people dive for those 😂
Love your videos

Alfred, I'm so glad you're enjoying the vids!! You're a scuba diver I see? Based in Cyprus? What's the diving like there?
@barnydillarstone beautiful landscapes but minimal marine life although we have some turtles :-) I live in the Netherlands btw
@@AlfredStoppels ah that makes more sense - apologies, I just saw a lot of Cyprus diving vids!! Yes, I'm not sure the Netherlands is know for its diving, although neither is the UK. That being said, I'm going to try and film some vids in the UK at some point (basking sharks, blue sharks, porbeagle sharks etc). Have you ever dived in Indonesia?
Netherlands is green water, never been diving there lol. Your UK plans are good, at least there is good life in the waters :-) Indonesia for me? Yes, just got back from Bunaken Marine Park in Sulawesi. What an amazing experience that was, love it so much@@barnydillarstone
@@AlfredStoppels oh cool - I've not dived Bunakan but I hear it's great. See anything cool?
10:08 are those baby flounders all over the left side of the video?!
They sure are! Honestly there was so much life on the wreck I was struggling to know what to film 😂 I guess that's what happens when you drop some structure in a bay that's just sand for miles. I'm sure there sharks come and investigate it at night - maybe I should drop a camera down...
7:03 is that lionfish following you for the lights to spot critters more easily? Or are lionfish just curious in nature? I swear some fishes are just curious and would follow divers around for no reason. Puffer fish and porcupine fish being some that I have encountered before
Yerp! It's well documented that in some places they will use divers' lights to hunt. They're a pain though as you could probably tell from the vid. They'll sit just outside of the light beam and then as soon as they see something rush forward and grab it. They're very big ones as well. I think their size/numbers are probably artificially boosted in some spots because of this. I actually got stung by one two nights ago. The puffers follow because they want you to stir up the sand and reveal some critters for them to eat. It's crazy how in some places, if you dig around in the sand with your fingers you'll be surrounded by wrasse, bream, puffers and goatfish in a matter of seconds.
W VIDEO LOVED THE THUMBNAIL AND MY FAVOURITE CREATURE WAS THE BLUE SPOTTED STINGRAY ITS SO COOL BEST YTTTT KEEP IT UP
Yay!! The stingrays are EVERYWHERE here. I'll try and get some more footage for you. The other day I saw over about 30 all lying on top of each other buried under the sand. Are rays your favourite? If so, I've got a VERY special clip to show you in one of my next videos.
@@barnydillarstone they are my favourite species and that would be amazing! 30 all lying on top of each other sounds absolutely AWSOME I would love to see those clips keep up the good work
@@TamashiisaCHUMP ok - leave it with me!! I filmed a few more yesterday including a tiny tiny one!

I also was diving this place yesterday night with UV-lights, my favourite macro-spot
Oh, you're in the area? Wreck spot is one of my favourites for sure, and in the afternoons/at night you basically have it to yourself. SOOO much better than a lot of the other more popular sites. How did you get on with the UV?
cool video!
Glad you enjoyed it! Favourite bit?
What a Moray stunning. Another fab vid.
It sure is! There was actually another much larger one down there but it retreated under the wreck. Again though, these guys have got nothing on the mythical beast that I used to see in Penida 😂 Do you like wreck diving?
@@barnydillarstone Hi Barny did you get my email? I like cavern and marine life areas for my filming. Apart from a WW2 sub off Falmouth as a teen. I live in Denmark so low vis and cold diving 0C in winter. Cheers John
@@johnmiskin4905 I did - I've just replied! Thank you again for the idea and fingers crossed something comes of it. Yes, I'm not the biggest fans of wrecks, but they are good spots for marine life (when there's not too many divers around). Ooooff you've done some winter dives in Denmark????!
What a spooky video! Very suitable for the season :D Being down there solo at night must be a crazy experience, thanks for sharing that with us. I'd probably be freaked out half the time. Those lionfish definetly profited from your flashlight. I'm guessing that is why the one bugger was following you around. Very cool video all in all! So many species in one video makes it seem like a mini documentary. Thank you for the efford of making this. It is a highlight in my day every time I see a new video of yours.
Bro, as ever, really appreciate the support. It's not actually as spooky as you might think. I was saying to my girlfriend the other day that I'd much rather be diving alone at night than I would in a forest etc. I guess you aren't likely to run into any nutters down at 40m 😂 . Yeh those lionfish are everywhere - I got stung by one two days ago that was stalking me whilst I was filming. They're a massive pain. Working on the vid with the clip I showed you on insta now. Should be up in the next couple of weeks 👀
Diving solo? You're game mate! coconut octopus are cool, no doubt.
Haha there are times where I feel it's much safer than buddy diving. If I have a problem on my own, my spare bottle is strapped to me rather than being strapped to my buddy who's 20m away swimming off after something they've seen in the blue 😂 at night it's a bit different though. Lots of safety going on here don't you worry. This new spot I've found is covered in coconuts. Maybe I should put a coconut down and see if I can tempt a big one to use it. I've also found three mimics the last few days, always at really bad times though when I've not had my camera 🤦♂️
1:15 looks like the nudie is laying eggs, right?
Yeah the yellow stuff (almost covered by subtitles for me). Didn't look like particles/part of the 'tree' it was handing onto
I literally didn't see this until I was doing a final review of the vid - good spot!! Yes, I'd assume it was in the process of laying, although nudis also eat nudi eggs, so that might also be a possibility.
cool shots!
🙌 thanks for the support!!
Wow ..great critters also video ❤
Thanks for the kind words! What was your favourite critter?
Fantastic filming what your main rig? Where`s the location and are you there permanently? You should chat to BBC Bristol Nat History dept I work there but in the drama filming dept. Great work
Thanks, John! Really appreciate the kind words. I shoot with a Sony RX100 + a small army of GoPros. I should definitely chat to BBC Bristol Nat History dept - if you've got a contact for me (or can make an introduction) that would be awesome. My email is on my homepage. Love your video pal! Different from the majority! Keep it up!🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 BTW, possible found a pompom crab?!
Thanks, Yolanda! Really glad you like the content - it's difficult carving out a new niche on UA-cam but we'll get there. Oooo there is a Pompom crab in a previous vid of mine. I can't remember which one exactly but one of my earlier ones - go have a look 👀 Have you seen one?
That barracuda was great.
Some very big ones round here!!
Awesome, again. Loving the content, Barny! I didn't actually realise the ghostpipe fish don't do what pipefish and sea horse do with the eggs and the females take them instead of the males. Fascinating.
Thanks, Jasen! Such bizarre creatures. Every day is a school day for me as well. Have you ticked any of the rarer ghost pipefish off the list?
@@barnydillarstone saw two types when in Indonesia. I think one was a skeleton pipefish, and one was was green and mostly white , the Halimeda ghost pipefish
Excellent video, surprisingly the creatures are not too dis-similar to the stuff we get in Scotland, just a lot colder.
Woah thanks for the support! I'd love to do some diving in Scotland. Perhaps we can collab on something when I'm back in the UK?
Love the frog fish so much. Last time I go to tulamben and do couple of muck dives, but see none frog fish. But turns out found one in Nusa penida's manta point.
Yeh frogfish do turn up at manta point from time to time! Frogfish are very seasonal I think - sometimes they're everywhere, other times they're impossible to find. Same with a lot of species. Have you got any plans to head back to Bali for diving?
this is amazing, keep up the amazing work!
Thank you so much!! Really glad you enjoyed it. Favourite bit?

Bro, I'm working on another one this week that involves a mirror...
Hahahaha! Talk about an underwater spa treatment. After your teeth & hand cleaning, I was thinking hey what about the feet n the next moment the foot shows up! Too funny. Those shrimps r often overlooked by divers, I’ll make an appointment the next time I see them 😆
I must admit, I did wait til nobody else was around til I stuck my foot in! Didn't help that the current was pumping at the time and the water was freezing. There were some sharks swimming around though 👍 would you give it a go?
You absolute mad lad! 😆 A very funny one indeed! Must have felt like a super strange sensation. Cheers!

Ahhhh, Lincke sp starfish... It's a running joke with me and a mate from the USA that they attack you (cue starfish sitting on the head photos). But that's the largest one I've seen on your video!
haha hilarious! I can't say I've ever seen one move. Yep was an absolute monster I've not see one that big before.
Great video! Two-spot red snapper are really clever-they always seem to find the bait first. I really enjoyed the interaction between the snappers and the titan triggerfish!
They sure are! I've got some cool ideas for a new bait cage design that should help us encourage the sharks etc to come closer to the camera. The titan won't be able to destroy it either. I'm also going to invest more time into specific spots and see if what rare stuff swims past. I know there are big sharks near where I am, I just need to have the camera down for as long as possible. I'm going to stick one on a shipwreck soon so watch this space 👀
