      @ADHDGamingme The registered heating engineer who services it says it's unnecessarily big for my system, so that might have a small part to play. But once it was out of warranty, just about everything that could go wrong has and I've replaced no end of parts. However my heating engineer says he seldom has problems with them amongst his other clients, but mine certainly seems to be a rouge. I'm going with a Baxi 800 30kw now.

    This is appalling! I can't understand how a company can be so brass-necked as to make such extravagant claims when the facts on the ground are so different. Where do we start: 1. Comparing the 90% efficiency of a boiler and the alleged 400% of a heat-pump in the context of cost-saving is a nonsense. Cost of gas per kWh (approx 6.5 pence) is much less than the cost of electricity per kWh (approx 24.5 pence), so efficiency gains are soon lost. 2. Even a cursory glance at the specifications on the heat-pump manufacturer's websites will show that the Coefficient of Performance ("efficiency") drops to between 100% and 200% during the ambient temperatures we experience in winter in the UK, particularly in the north (where, contrary to popular belief, many millions of people actually live). The video does allude to this, but the headline "400%!!!" figure is the one that's constantly repeated. 3. No mention of the risk of icing on the external unit during cold, damp conditions, and the loss of efficiency created by installing a buffer tank as mitigation. 4. No mention of the fact that, in many cases, entire wet central heating systems have to be replaced with larger bore pipes and larger radiators due to the lower hot water temperatures provided by heat-pumps compared to gas or oil boilers. (Although the cost of this may have been factored in to the upper ranges of the cost-estimates). I invite the makers of this video to issue a rebuttal to these four points based on actual, real-world before/after examples of heat-pump installation.

    Love the thumbnail…400% efficient, right! So every 1Kw of electricity used puts 4Kw of heat into your home…..😂 er’ No! Let’s not forget the installation cost is many thousands..how long before that pays for itself, whilst you are absorbing running costs and maintenance. Air source tries to further freeze already frozen outside winter air which can’t be a great idea…Ground source, well who can afford to install that!…you’d likely be wealthy enough to just pay your existing heating without qualm.…Let’s now have a giggle at the projected savings…£1600 per year minimum….How much do they think is usual to pay for home heating? Since my 3 bed semi for heating alone runs around 700-800 per year, no heat pump is going to beat that on running costs. Thanks for the video…my mind is made up, that £5000+ is better in my pocket.

    I live in a 5 bedroom house with 19 radiators. My 4 year old boiler is 24kw on the CH side. I have 3 bathroom rads that will not heat up. There is water in them, the water circulates fine. But they will not get hot at all. Is it possible our boiler is underpowered? Most websites seem to recommend 30kw+ for that many rads.

    • @georgehughes5703
      @georgehughes5703 3 дні тому

      "The water circulates fine" - how do you know? "rads that will not heat up" - they remain stone cold or become warmer?

    • @matthewnicholas6365
      @matthewnicholas6365 3 дні тому

      @georgehughes5703 there's no airlocks in them. As soon as you open the bleed valve water comes out. I've tried it with the heating on and it literally sprays out under pressure. But its stone cold on 2 and barely warm on 1.

    • @georgehughes5703
      @georgehughes5703 3 дні тому

      @@matthewnicholas6365 On all radiators (including the 3 in question) Set the the TRV to 0/close the manual inlet valve - which ever is fitted. Ensure to make a note of TRV position/how many turns (in 1/4 turns ie 2 3/4 turns) to close the valve. This will help put the system back as it was. At the barely warm radiator: Close the lock shield valve, making a note of how many turns (in 1/4 turns ie 2 3/4 turns) to close the valve. Fully open the lock shield valve. Remove the TRV and ensure the pin on the valve is free to move (it must push in and spring out). If manual valve fitted - fully open the valve. Start CH system.

    • @georgehughes5703
      @georgehughes5703 3 дні тому

      Monitor the temperature of the barely warm radiator. Be prepared to bleed and top up the system. It/or the pipework may need substantial bleeding. When finished here (radiator hot or no change) close the inlet. Perform the same actions - in turn - on the other 2 (stone cold) radiators.

    • @matthewnicholas6365
      @matthewnicholas6365 3 дні тому

      @georgehughes5703 done that multiple times with nothing. In fact, the barely warm rad is only barely warm right now as we have taken 2 out from downstairs during refurbishment. I'm suspecting taking those 2 out has allowed a tad more hot water to get further down the line

    I don't know why the government isn't more involved in this, seeing as they're offering grants anyway. Why don't they just employ a couple of experts in each county, who can advise people on the grants available and who they should get to install the system? Offering grants, but then not advertising the fact, and leaving consumers to just......whoever's around, seems a bit daft. I'd definitely do this if I didn't have to do a load of research myself.

    If I had a heat pump i would run it 24/7 in winter.You can have your radiators at a lower temperature,My Gas combil boiler goes off before midnight and comes on in the morning.Sometimes I override and put the thermostate on mannual.I just had a new combi boiler fitted last year and a ten year quarantee.Boiler was just over a £1000 pounds.We have 8 Radiators and a gas fed shower.My radiators are hot when on 70c.We are 75 I pay because Iam not going to be worried sitting in the cold at our age.And it is disgusting that so many people should be worried about keeping warm in the UK.Speciallty the elderly.Over 70 Energy for free you've earned it.Take note energy companies because you are making plenty out of us.

    We had an air source heat pump, coupled with solar panels installed way back in 2011. We had that first system replaced some 3 years ago because it was faulty. Last year (November2023), we had it serviced by a third party company, the installing company having gone bust. It lasted a week or so before it broke down. We've had the plumbers and sparkies attend almost weekly, trying various things, flushing the system, changing the PCB, pressurising the system, adding what i understand to be an expansion tank, changing the heat exchanger and it still doesn't work. The manufacturer’s warranty will undoubtedly run out way before it's resolved. I wouldn't recommend a heat pump to anyone, at all.

    This is a fair analysis. Well done. Although as long as electricity is so much more expensive it's pointless. Much better if solar panels and perhaps storage batteries are used. Electricity is expensive due to green subsidies and the heat pump needs 75% subsidy. Let's hope it's worthwhile.
