Creativity, Reiki, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) with Elizabeth Scott
In this episode of Going Inside, I sit down with Elizabeth Scott, a licensed psychotherapist, writer, and Reiki master practitioner. We explore Internal Family Systems (IFS), creativity, and Reiki, discussing how these approaches can support healing, self-connection, and self-expression. Elizabeth shares her journey of integrating IFS and Reiki in her work and personal life, revealing how creativity is both a pathway to and a result of self-energy. Tune in for a deep dive into the transformative power of creativity, the body, and energetic practices in trauma healing.
Key Takeaways:
1. Creativity is an essential aspect of self-energy and a powerful tool for healing and self-connection.

Wow! New to IFS and this is a really lovely example. Thanks to you both.
Love Roberts compassion work I can validate all of now that I do this work. 🙏🧡
I love human design, my hubby loves IFS....hee hee nice to see conversation
I love that!! So glad you enjoyed the conversation.
Thank you ❤
Awesome interview! I respect RF so much-his wisdom and courage is heroic! Not to mention profoundly helpful! ❤
Great conversation with a great man. RIP Derek
I read Bob’s book, and it was great. I’m wondering how one can tell the difference between a legacy burden and unattached burden. I know that I have burdens within my own system that come from outside of it, but I don’t know whether it comes from a very toxic family legacy, or whether it is in fact, an unattached burden. Or whether they’re similar.
Lovely. Great interview. Thank you.
Love this reframing, beautiful. But how does one channel it, or even convert it? I've always seen trauma as a 'blockage' or a knot or tangle. So I see it as something that needs to be released, to allow your natural energy to flow easily. Can you add to that or change my thinking here, I'm really interested in what you said, feels like truth in there. Peace
Can trauma release exercises accomplish similar results
This was wonderful and resonated with me so much. Thank you.
@@hannahwendel9383 I’m so so glad!! It was one of my favorite interviews so far
It was a pleasure to be in conversation with you John!

IFS is AMAZING!!!
@@christineteh agree!!
Wokester 101.
Very clarifying interview. 😊
@@transcendere thank you!!
Absolutely, John! You nailed it. Yes, the *principle* of parts is central to IFS (albeit not any specific part). However, the foundation of successful IFS therapy (or coaching in my case), is the IFS definition of 'Self'. Without a well-developed ability to access and hold Self, no person can be an effective IFS practitioner. Cheers! ❤
Thanks for this. I find Bob's scholarship inspiring in a deeply human way. In the Pantheon of Practitioners who have interviewed Bob...you're in the Pantheon. Tell us what Greek God you think would be your archetype?
John, I love your content so much. Please don’t stop. Can you please give tips on finding a qualified IFS therapist? I found someone on Open Path, and I’m sure she lied about being certified. I had six sessions and she didn’t use IFS at all, even after I reminded her a few times that that was why I came to her. I’m in Connecticut by the way.
@@Cocktail.witch.newhaven thank you!! The most official way to find an IFS therapist would be through the IFS institute directory. The tricky part is that there are tons of very good therapists who use the model and do it well who are not trained by the institute
@@Cocktail.witch.newhaven there's a difference betweem being certified and being trained. Also some are practitioners not trained therapists. Youre better off getting a level 2 or level 3 trained therapist or practitioner. Many will give you a free meeting where you can get to know them and then you can judge for yourself if you get a feeling that you could work well together. I always recommend people meet their therapist first.
Please do more of these! I so enjoyed listening. I love the IFS way of working, it is a beautiful process.
@@intuitiveifstherapy thank you so much!!
@@intuitiveifstherapy I loved this particular video too because I found they talked about stuff that doesn’t always get discussed. I think the dynamic where John was coaching another therapist made the difference, and I’m a big fan of this format too btw 😃😁
@@TheNurseWhoLovedMe89 yes, it's the kind of thing you hear at trainings, not online as much. There is a lot to gain from hearing about other therapists' experiences.
What you said about clients bypassing their intuition was incredibly profound. Thank you so much 🙏💖✨
@@TheNurseWhoLovedMe89 thank you!!! Means the world to me
👋 Hi everyone. If only I knew how easy it would be, it’s been over 2 years and I don’t have any cravings at all, for me the key difference was that I didn’t suffer withdrawal, not even within the first 30 days after go’ogling and following Steffon Barkload’s advice and quitting because I just wanted to.
📣 P.S: I’d love to know what you’d like to see more from me! 🧠 I’m considering creating a course or group and would appreciate your insight on whether you’re interested in a course for therapists wanting to incorporate IFS into their practice, a general IFS 101, or anything else. After hearing your discussion with Bob Falconer, do you think there will be a part 5 for this UB to be fully released or potentially the legacy burden work? This whole journey with Sophia has been really beautiful and fascinating. Grateful to you both. Thank you for making these demos available.
thank you for the thoughtful questions! I don't have another demo lined up with "Sophia" at the moment, but I am hopeful she will join for another soon. If she does, yes, we would probably start by checking with the UB and the legacy burden work, and would let her system tell us what is most pressing for the session. And yes, her story and her work is so inspiring!
Women and entrepreneurs past a number of failures are afraid of success
You were great in Family Ties.
thank you so much! it was a great gig while it lasted
Really moving work, for someone who has suffered so much, she's deserved all the love. I love IFS. Thank you both! Can you clarify about the intention with having her check with her heart? What are you looking for there? Self energy? What if she didn't express feeling pride? Would you then assess for other signs of self energy and have her send it to the parts in her system? Thanks for all that you do to spread IFS!
@@DiuQuy thank you so much!! Yes checking with her heart was my impromptu way of checking for self energy but also generating self energy. I like to visualize the chakras during sessions like this. Yes if she didn’t demonstrate self energy then I would always refocus us on generating more self energy in order to proceed! Hope this helps
Can you please give tips on how to heal spiritually using IFS, specifically self facilitated? I know you gear your content towards practitioners, but it’s very hard to find one to work with so I have been trying it on my own (with some superficial success, but I need more guidance).
yes, it's possible to do some of this work on your own! though not easy. when working with a practitioner you are benefitting greatly from/their lending of their self-energy. my guided IFS meditations are a good starting point for you, but ideally you can find a practitioner. Open Path collective has sliding scale therapists, that could help if cost of therapy is a concern!
Thank you for sharing such valuable topic and information.
you're so welcome!
John, I'm grateful to hear this. I was going to school to become a counselor but the power dynamics of therapist and client has always been a struggle for me. I don't think I can ever be a healer. I think maybe I'm a liver, and from that comes healing, but I don't give anyone anything they don't already have.
so glad this resonated!
I really like your content John. She was pretty hard to follow.
thank you so much for following along! yes, some of these ideas feel pretty esoteric, my aim is always to try to bring things down to earth as much as possible
What I'm curious about is why would these non-native beings tell the truth and say no I'm a Klingon... And in doing so risk being ousted
this is a great question...maybe I can ask Bob next time
I don't agree that it's shame that takes us to therapy. Many of us seek psychotherapy because we're suffering and limited in our lives in all kinds of ways, usually as the result of childhood trauma.
I agree - framing it as a psycho-spiritual model makes sense. It also fits with DBT (wise mind).
yes! wise mind is a good comparison
Non duality at its primacy is inexplicable. The awareness of the ineffable is one thing, the submersion of this experience renders you absent. You might be in a state of awareness but it’s esoteric and abstract. You dissociate from your body and you have no reference points of physical significance. It has the quality of being more real then our every day life.
Thx
you're welcome!

How do you define a “mystical experience”?? Would I recognize one if I saw one??
any experience that occurs beyond your day to day awareness! or whatever definition works for you
@@JohnClarkeTherapyIf you are unaware of them how do you know they happened?
I deeply identify with the idea that western culture teaches us to not want to know what is internally true for us.Consequently many of us are quietly taught to avoid our inner world. I deeply connect with the ides that as psychotherapists, our work is to really support our clients in being available and curious to do the exploration of their internal world so that they can connect with the authentic self. Can you share a bit more about an unattached burden? Thanks in advance.
totally agree! and to learn more about unattached burdens, check out the first interview I did with Bob on this channel: ua-cam.com/video/FlHljCSiL-g/v-deo.htmlsi=Zyjg1tPHgfd62KfE

Great episode! Many thanks. You mentioned that our Self is who we truly are. Does this mean that we are born with 8 C's and 5 P's. I am trying to figure out who I truly am minus my parents upbringing. Is this at all possible? Many thanks
yes! we are absolutely born with all of our Self qualities fully embodied. Over time, parts take on burdens and tend to partially obscure self, even if only momentarily.
