Lasernut 93 – AUTOBAHN [01_0017] (#FPV #RC car driving)
Lasernut 93 went to to drive alongside the Autobahn on an paved agricultural way. Starting point is where we had to return because of video signal rate dropping. This is 1100 meters from home point - so, a new personal record! 🥳 🎉 But the crazy thing is: back on the straight road, signal is back at 50 Mbps instantly! 😲 So, if that road was only longer straight ahead, we could have gone much farther… 🤷
P. S.: Don't drive into too tall grass. Just don't.

Heck yea the legendary Autobahn. That was a sweet run of solid cruising. Getting grass or basically anything wound around the tires is the worst though. Once they get wrapped up it's a done deal lol. Your ESC did good though, I was afraid it might try to crap out powering through it.

I would love to, but there's no race track anywhere near to where I live (except Hockenheim, but that's way too huge 😉). But I use "DIY" virtual tracks on *RC GRID* see ua-cam.com/video/TQkZRco0WOA/v-deo.html

Man it blows my mind you can cover that much ground without hardly running into people. It's like a dream lol. Except for @18:50. Thought you about to gun it the second you turned around lol, luckily you waited a bit, that guy was cutting it close.
Welcome to the rural part of Germany. 🧑🌾 There live less than 2.000 ppl in that neighbor village. That shopping center is the only one within miles. Quite a lot of people up - for sunday morning 8 am… I guess for the bakery at the shopping center. Btw, the village I lilve in does not even have a bakery - but a couple of vintners for good compensation. 🍷 And that motor scooter - dang how close… maybe I should add a rear view option to the car. 🤷
@@NUeB_RCFPV Wow that really changes it though, 2000 people? That's wild. Now I can't believe you actually saw so many people at 8am. It's normal for me to see decent traffic 24 hours a day but seeing anyone at all at 8 on Sunday in a place with 2000 ppl would drive me nuts lol. You should definitely add a rear view option though. I can't get on roads without it because I'm afraid of some cars behind me coming out of nowhere and trying to overtake me. I have to full throttle to avoid that but typically would rather go cruising speed when things are clear. I like the gimbal setups that allow you to look behind you but that doesn't work when you're already driving fast. I'm not sure how you'd be able to do it another way with your mounting though.
@@Magneticitist I'm sure they were there for the bakery. Ppl wake up and feel hungry… ;) In my village (equally small) I saw noone on the streets. Maybe a rear view mirror like yours will do the job. I'll see…
@@NUeB_RCFPV That bakery must be the jam then lol. I got a pack of like 100 dental mirrors on amazon for only a few bucks cause I couldn't find them cheaper in singles or pairs. They ended up being smaller than the ones I'm using on the cars though. I guess you really don't even need to have the mirror move with the pan since that doesn't do me much good anyway. You could probably just find a way to strap some 12AWG solid conductor or something like that and have it snake out to the proper angle when your camera is front facing. Really all depends on the structure of the car etc to determine how annoying it's going to be in your view while also allowing a good rear angle.
So impressed of rx elrs can go through objects and far away👍👍👍 may i ask what mw and Mhz you were using?
Just a stock Radiomaster MT12 with basic settings (I guess). RX Telelemetry has 17 mW and stayed connected all the time. P.S.: radio tx is spec'd "up to 250 mW".
@@NUeB_RCFPV 17mW is crazy, I might need to switch to that. When I go the farthest I can and behind buildings the 915mhz crossfire will often output something like 1W. I never really tried to force it to run at much less at those ranges but I know at only 10mW I can't really go behind much at all.
@@Magneticitist That 17 mW is the telemetry backchannel only! But still better penetration than O3, LOL.
@@NUeB_RCFPV Oh ok so what's the tx power at something like 100-250mW?
@@Magneticitist Yes, "up to 250 mW" Radiomaster says. But anyway, even the 17 mW Telemetry did not fail on this tour (the radio plays "telemetry lost" if so).
Pretty good range with This set up . Do you have an Idea of the Speed of the car? I think really hard Go Full throttle on FPV
On 35 % throttle it goes about 30 km/h. Right now it is drifting to the left. - I need to fix that and than do some runs w/ GPS speedometer attached. At high speed the road feels frightening tight, so one needs a wide and open place like that parking lot.

Awesome! I was looking for something like this a while ago and all I could find was rain-x which didn't work lol
When I tested it on my velomobile's visor ( ua-cam.com/video/FyEc3IjA4Es/v-deo.html ) I was just like "WOW. This *IS* real." - Still curious to see it in real action. With the spray pump it was as if the water isn't even touching the lens. And I don't see any bad effect on the image quality either. Go, get some!
@@NUeB_RCFPV From what I can tell it's a legit hydrophobic product that only has the downside of being easy to remove. If that means you'd just have to spray it down every time you take it out that's not a big deal.
@@Magneticitist I'll see how durable it is. My camera is not exposed, so it should do for more that one ride. And looking how often hit puddles etc it is sure worth it not driving blind.
I just drove through wet (really wet) turf - the lens stayed perfectly dry. At least a few drops of water must have hitten the lens but the view stayed perfectly clear all the time. TEST PASSED. :-) Video of this epic expedition will follow.

nice to see you back on the wheels!
Thanks, man! :)
What causes the slight side to side movement of the camera? Is it just that you have your fingers on a joystick controlling it and are slightly moving it around on accident? Or is it setup for head tracking?
It's because steering is also mixed into pan servo output. Every tiny correction of direction causes the camera to move too.
@@NUeB_RCFPV Doesn't that make it hard to drive straight?
@@Magneticitist don't think so. it makes cornering much easier for sure.
@@NUeB_RCFPV I guess it's sort of the inverse of the problem I see with the gimbal I'm using, which does actually make it a little hard to drive straight. As I veer right or left it sort of wants to lag a little trying to recenter itself so it's hard to make instant precise adjustments and tell what I'm actually doing. So far there is sort of a way around that by forcing the "Home" position but maybe they'll update the firmware like Chadd was hoping. Otherwise I'd say you should try the HEQ gimbal. It was surprisingly easy to setup. I would maybe put it on some crawler or something that can go fairly fast like a trail truck, or even the Lasernut if you don't mind risking it lol. Since all you really have to do is just plug in the receiver ground and the signal wires to 3 available channels, plus the 12V-18V power, the whole setup takes just a couple minutes of calibration. I'll do a video maybe tomorrow showing my results in some woods and hopefully I won't have tons of jitter issues. Just driving around the living room gives it a lot of promise though.
@@Magneticitist I think we should give HEQ some time to tune the firmware four tough FPV driving. The gimbal's job on a fixed wing is so much easier than with us. ;) Right now I don't even have a car I'd like to put a (still huge) gimbal on. A crawler? Don't think so. The 1/6th scale Super Lasernut? Maybe next year… Got to take a look, I thought Chadd was done with FPV, isn't he?
Wow that's a perfect wide open space there!! Imagine if you owned a bucket truck lol. Could go up maybe 25ft+ and drive everywhere.
😆 I was already up in the attic to get that far. Down in the garden range is quite limited, to many obstrusions like those trees you see at 00:42. With the DJI mini 4 pro I was already furher away but had to return because of rain setting in…
@@NUeB_RCFPV What are your thoughts on the O4? I mean I guess we're not going to see an O4 Air Unit anymore in the US but maybe you can still get one? I wonder if it blows the O3 away when it comes to penetration.
@@Magneticitist They do not even offer an O4 air unit here… And I'm not gonna buy an Avata for sure. (Still got a brand new tinywhoop layin around…)
@@NUeB_RCFPV Oh I thought the mini 4 pro had an O4 inside. AFAIK DJI might still be able to sell the standalone units when they come out but just not to the US.
@@Magneticitist Oops. You're right. Didn't care too much about the tech inside when I bought it. But it's hard to compare since I do noot fly the mini 4 like I drive the Lasernut… (this wouold be a terrible idea!) - So I can not seriously compare the both of them side to side. But the mini 4 is quite good on it's job; just not so much fun like FPV'ing - that's why I already bought a tinywhoop for FPV fun (later this year).
Nice run and distance. The rabbit looked jacked up as you were chancing it. Awesome job taking the Lasernut to it's limits. 👍

As you may remember, Lasernut 93 had a crash on it's last drive… Now that we're moved to our lovely new location and the car is repaired, it's time for some FPV fun again. Join me exploring the fields behind our garden… and get a new range record at about 970 meters. Maybe I should try again after the corn harvest, what do you think? Can you make a video on how you’re powering the O3 unit? I have an RC and I want to get the same set up but haven’t figured out to how to power the camera.
Just connect the red & black wires from the air unit to the battery.
What js the range you have on this?
Some 230 m in the neighborrhood ua-cam.com/video/E-TPg4_LDn0/v-deo.htmlsi=toCbOpVWsH8dTIN2&t=235 - and even more in the flat field. With the other car I got up to 700 m in the fields.
@@NUeB_RCFPV how to fpv drones get such good range?

That MT12 transmitter is awesome, I have it too and the range is insane lol, and for the price it can't be beat
How did u get audio ?
w/ a tiny audio recorder on the car; size & weight about like an USB stick
You should build a lot of these and sell it! How much does it cost??
Depends heavily on which car platform you choose. A car like like this: DIY for about 400 Euros; my big one did cost more that 1000. Plus radio (150), plus FPV goggles (600). Analog FPV is much cheaper, but *I* don't want analog any more; started with that a decade ago.
Where can I buy ?
Digital image is great but alas out of my budget. Commendable driving! You really can't see far enough ahead at those speeds and "altitude". Thanks for sharing!
Can you help make one for me?
How could I?
@@NUeB_RCFPV we should contact, and at least You can help me with what i need to start off, what to buy.. do You think it woulbe be possible?
My more recent videos all have a parts list in the description. To be honest, I can not recommend that WLToys car, it's build quality is so poor.

I have no idea what message you're talking about. (positively no irony)

Amazing, I think this is the best fpv video I have seen so far. No interference and signal submission distortion
O, haven't you seen my video of the arboretum? 😉 But thanks, I enjoyed this ride a lot too. The video does not show the goggles view but the (stabilized) footage from the O3 FPV camera. Goggles view is 1080 and not stabilized; I even had short VTX signal loss during this ride.
