Any transit tripod recommendation?
This is what I'm using. It's aluminum and not that heavy. amzn.to/3WBIyUV
@@W6IWN_Radio thank you.
If you get any closer to the mike it will be in your mouth!
@skepticalmechanic I don't want to eat Mike, he's my friend!
I so miss my old Radio Shack. 😞
@@BigJohnsHamShack me too!
@@W6IWN_Radio when me and my friends were kiddos we would beg our parents to take us to Radio Shack and just let us look around. Luckily for us the man that owned the Radio Shack and for the life of me I can't remember his name. Would take so much time out of his day just to work with us kiddos. Looking back I think he enjoyed it as much as we did.
Have a question…along with the antenna and tripod..what else would I need to order to have a complete package…what a great setup that would be perfect
Thanks! You will need the tripod adapter chameleonantenna.com/shop-here/ols/products/cha-surveyor-a I use the Hybrid Micro for lower power. The micro hybrid handles more power. chameleonantenna.com/shop-here/ols/products/cha-hybrid-micro/v/CHA-HYBRID-MICRO-NO-WR Either the stingers with banana plugs or the counterpoise wires with banana plugs. chameleonantenna.com/shop-here/ols/products/cha-stinger-kit-port/v/CHA-STINGER-KIT-PORT-STINGERS I hope you enjoy your setup. I can't wait to get mine out for some SOTA & POTA. 73
@@W6IWN_Radio You bet…thank you for the help. Going to set up everything before fall hits.
@micklaws5520 No worries, gald to help. Enjoy 😃
I have been using a transit tripod for about 2 years. Im glad to see somebody else using one.lol
It sure makes deployment fast and easy!
@@W6IWN_Radio Yep and it’s lighter than you would think.

Have you been able to program your with the OD Master app?
@kirkwalsh1932 Honestly, I never messed with the programming since it came preprogrammed. I've used ODmaster with other TidRadios.
@@W6IWN_Radio I've tried with the Bluetooth connected on the radio and with the BL-1 programmer without success. It wants to read the PMR radios with the 16CH and not the FRS with 22CH.
@kirkwalsh1932 I will forward this to TidRadio. Please send them an email with a detailed description if you have time. TidRadio has been great about responding and resolving problems. I appreciate your feedback and hope this gets resolved. Thanks
@@kirkwalsh1932 Yes, the M11 radio is divided into two types: 16CH PMR radio and 22CH FRS radio. If you use ODmaster programming, please choose the model corresponding to your M11 radio.
@@tidradioassistant there is only the one option to chose for the M11 in my app

@edschroer613 I wish I could have given a closer look. I didn't want to poke around too much, though. Great bunch of folks! 👍
Did you end up getting a 25’?
I sure did! I'm trying to figure out the best way I should set it up for SOTA. I'm hoping you can give me some advice on ideas and POTA setup recommendations. I've been EFHW for too long. I really hope to try it at the coast someday. Thanks for watching, Mr. Mud. I really like your videos and builds! 👍
Very nice!

what is the range?
@t.texastimmy1022 It depends on the terrain. We were getting 1-2miles.
@@W6IWN_Radio I notice that there's a slightly more powerful model / the M8. I assume that compatible but w/ better range?
@t.texastimmy1022 The maximum power out for FRS is 2Watts. They look pretty much the same. I haven't tried an M8, though.
With the g90 tuner you can ditch the 9:1
That was pretty cool.
I made one using a PVC pipe after your first video on it. I made a qso to a POTA in WI from So Cal on 10m since like you showed it had a workable swr
Awesome! It's funny you mention PVC pipe for a mast. I was just thinking about builds with one last night. I'm curious if the length that the slinky is extended changes the SWR much. If so, a PVC pipe marked with different bands would be nifty. I've read that you can clamp sections of the slinky together at the bottom to shorten it. 73, Bobby
@@W6IWN_Radio I have read the same thing about length and swr. I used a pvc pipe because I was having issues with the fishing pole collapsing with the slinky.
@dadsrcworkbench1322 These are the masts I use. I just twist it tight as I extend it. amzn.to/4ffLvDf
@@W6IWN_Radio yep I use the same ones for my QTH Hf antenna and mobile masts
I might have to pick up a Slinky and give this a try.
It's fun to experiment with. You can make a dipole with 2. I worked France with it during good band conditions last year! ua-cam.com/video/IFKAcCREPHs/v-deo.htmlsi=CIs-16upsFgAnGXN
First time watcher, enjoyed the video here. AA9IG is the call. I used to have a friend that used a pair of slinkies in a dipole configuration suspended via NYLON rope about 60' in the air. I am not sure that he didn't use 2 slinkies per side of the dipole. Anyway, he fed it with 450 ohm ladder line with a home made tuner. He swore he could tune the thing from 160 to 10 meters. He did state however the inductance at low frequencies was hard to capacitively tune out. He also employed some sort of pulley/nylon rope configuration to lengthen and shorten the slinkies while in the air. I would have loved to play with something like this in my younger days! And by the way, he also stated that the slinkies rusted badly over time. The time frame would have been in the early 1990's. Take care and please upload more!
@jonsymmonds1120 AA9IG, thank you 😊 I've been wanting to experiment with the dipole slinky configuration for some time... That sounds like a really awesome setup your friend had! I don't think they make the slinkys the way they used to. I want some brass ones, but they are expensive now! Thanks for watching, 73
Are you sure the inductance problem was on the LOWER frequencies and not the higher ones? It seems counterintuitive to me.
great job thanks 73 from kb2uew
Pretty interesting. I don’t know a ton about this subject.

The Tidradio H3 is NOT water resistant. If this radio is water resistant,it would literally be a perfect radio. Tid Radio, are you listening???
he never said it was...
My 1st H3 went out in flames while charging, replacement radio doesn't transmit at all. TID refusing to send the replacement, advising me to put the battery of replacement radio to 1st radio (one that burned out in flames). Tragi-Comedy...
I'm sorry to hear about your experience. No fires here so far!
@@W6IWN_Radio I was able to use it for one day on first charge, and second charge, battery charging controller circuit was a culprit of fire. Started to feel burning plastic smell after 20 minutes charging, I didn't know what is it, came back from outside, was walking my dog, started looking in the kitchen, around the stove, finally, I literally saw the radio burning. Please note that if you order the Baofeng programming cable from Radioddity for this radio it WILL NOT work with the UV-25. It was built with too much material around the plug-in and WILL NOT seat into the radio programming receptacle. They have zero clue that this is an issue and sent me a replacement that was exactly like the first even though I clearly explained the issue.
Thanks for your feedback! I hope this gets resolved.
What do you have the radio's Input and Output settings at?
Aux in 9 and Aux out 15.
@@W6IWN_Radio Thanks!
@Scott_AI5EF Scott, I hope that helps. This is an older video using the 1.74 firmware, I believe. With the 1.79 firmware, you don't need to adjust the filters. Just select USB-D mode, and the filters are preset preset. 73
