      Only a small Amaran P60X. I am going to try a Godox LDX100Bi to get some more punch. I try and keep everything to a minimum due to room in the vehicle.

      Yeah that totally makes sense for sure. I haven’t tried that Godox panel but looks like it could throw a nice soft light. Another option if you wanted a bit more punch for a similar price is the Aputure 60d (or x). The bag is about the size of a size 12 shoe box. Tucker for thought 🤙

    I also use a Deity Theos with a C70. Obviously there are many different ways to do this, but generally speaking in these kinds of scenarios, it is IMO better to use the 3.5mm out from the Theos D2RX (“Receiver”) into the 3.5mm "Mic" input on the C70 (Channels 3 and 4), with the external or on-camera mic being a professional XLR mic, rather than a 3.5mm output mic. The preamps on Channels 1 and 2 on the C70 are plenty good enough for a professional XLR mic. The “Out Type” on the D2RX would of course be set to “A = RX1 + RX2”. When taking the 3.5mm output from the Theos D2RX into the 3.5mm "Mic" input on the C70 (again, Channels 3 and 4), I set the C70's "Mic" input to LINE (pg 4 of the Audio tab). Then I can set the “Level” of the Theos D2RX receiver to 0dB. I then adjust the amount of Gain on the C70's "Mic" input (again, in LINE mode) to whatever is needed to maintain a consistent level from Transmitter to Receiver to Camera, usually around 55 on the C70's Gain for Channels 3 and 4 (pg 2 of the Audio tab). This should prevent distortion at each hop, and it also gives some breathing room in the gain staging at the D2RX Receiver level, vs. needing to have it all the way down at -20dB. Hope this makes sense.

      Thank you for this strategy! This seems to have a much cleaner signal for me than using "Mic" level. Question... Why do you suggest Ch3/4 instead of channels 1/2? Are the preamps different on the C70 in those channels?

    • @videographerstuff539
      @videographerstuff539 15 днів тому

      Thanks! The only difference is the length, so it simply comes down to the amount to distance you like the camera to travel. There’s only 20cm difference in length but I feel you’d get more options with the longer one. Mainly because the camera can go that little bit longer before needing to return. Plus if you only needed to do a short slide you can set the start/stops to be short. Best of both worlds. A plus for the shorter one is if you need to travel with it. It could fit in a backpack if needed.

    I was looking for vids about using RS3 pro with sliders and here you are with the exact slider I had in mind. I guess this is the poor man's motion control. I've been wanting a slider for a while and a change in my business focus might justify finally getting one, but I was wondering if I could pair it with the gimbal like here and achieve repeatable movements, or would I need something like the Zeapon with Pan/Tilt head for that (or is there another alternative I'm not thinking of).

    • @videographerstuff539
      @videographerstuff539 2 місяці тому

      Yeah the value proposition was there for me with this slider. I haven’t had time to test if you could do repeatable gimbal moves. The start timing for the gimbal and slider would be hard to execute. I think it would just be pressing go and the same time. Hopefully it’s that simple and works well. Once I get a day off I’ll try give it a go.

      Hi, the general benefit to the 1.4 is that you can take photos in darker situations as well as the great look for portraits of the really blurry background. The sweet spot for the 1.4 would be using it at 1.8 or 2. Generally with lenses 1 or 2 stops up from wide open is the sharper spot. Hope that helps. Best of luck on your journey!

    do you have any thoughts on the actual transmitter / receiver system quality? I already have the sanken cos 11d and a couple of sets of sennheiser g4 wireless packs.. just wondering if you have found any quality difference between this and the rode go pro packs? (not taking into consideration the 32 bit float - just purely the quality of audio it sends into the camera)

    • @videographerstuff539
      @videographerstuff539 2 місяці тому

      Hey, I haven’t used the G4’s, but I had the g3 set. My biggest problem with those were getting interference every now and then, like that short ‘spark’ kinda sound. Used to kill me having to hand audio in with that. Since having the RØDE’s I’m yet to have an interference problem (without pushing distance) and I’m 100% happy with the quality the cos 11 into it gives me. It really is a good combination in my opinion. I set the rx unit to ‘split’ so that I get each channel on its own track on the camera. If I stuff up and bump the audio dials on the camera during a take I love having the safety on the onboard recording as back up.

    Appreciate this comparison, the Cos 11 are workhorse labs and built to last, they can really take a beating. The difference seems small but the clarity and punchiness are big improvements for me, If placing a lab the difference sounds similar to a burried mic vs one that has some 'air' to it and much more desirable. I'm sure some EQ could reduce those muddier tones in the Rode Lav but bang for buck if audio is your thing, the Sunken Cos 11 is a no brainer. I really wished the Rode wireless pro TX's provided enough power for my DPA 6060's but the Cos 11 is a great mic and mic nicer to hide because of the smaller form factor despite the thicker cable.

    I have the Rode Wireless Pro at the moment and I find the Lav II to be ok, but if you want to hide the mic under clothing I find it pretty tricky. Have you tried that? I will likely buy a Sanken in the future but in the meantime would be good to hear any tips if you've every tried to hide the Rode Lav II.

      Hey mate. Yeah very tricky with the forward facing capsule and the back that pulls off with rode lav ii, but I’ll pop up a video in the coming days with a work around for you.

    Does anyone know for Canon version the high speed sync which use to have an issue with older version, does pro version fix the issue wil lthe high speed sync work with TTL now? Connecting the Godox V1 Pro to canon camera especially to mirrorless R series camera, if high-speed sync and TTL combine effectively to achieve the correct exposure?

      @videographerstuff539 3 місяці тому

      I haven’t had any issues with high speed sync using it on r5. But I’m generally shooting in manual mode on the flash and not TTL. I’ll give them both a go in TTL and report back.

    There's no need to chase the latest versions of everything, skipping as many generations as you can get away with is the smart way. Purchase something when you know you're gonna need it, if you don't need it right now maybe wait for the newest models to come out if the current ones are due a refresh, but otherwise just get the gear you need when you need it.. As for the adjustment on the RS3 pro I agree the lateral one is a weak point and feels strangely low-tech compared to the other ones. It requires a strong but precise grip but eh, it's a mild inconvenience at worst, I'll be sticking with mine for many more years I'm sure, or until it breaks.

    I currently run with the Sony FX30. I've been looking at the C70 for a while as a possible upgrade. I am looking at other cameras/brands as well. But, the C70 has a lot of great features for the price.
