    I wonder what it would do in a plate carrier. And the bulge is called back face deformation. That’s why you run soft 3A armor with it.

  • @andrewdesalvo9891
    @andrewdesalvo9891 8 місяців тому

    Basically the plates took some abuse before moving up to rifle rounds & without the added stability of tightly woven Kevlar behind it to absorbe some that backface deformation, it held up pretty well for being a thinner, lighter weight tile.

    I don't like that Safe Life is intentionally manufacturing these to force two purchases. Also I wish you had not shot the plate up with pistol rounds. Also note that GREENTIP are penetrator rounds and not AP rounds as you stated. In my opinion AND IT'S JUST ME SAYING, YOU REALLY DIDN'T TEST THEM FOR WHAT THEY ARE SUPPOSEDLY RATED FOR...LARGE RIFLE AND ARMOR PIERCING ROUNDS.. A True LvL IV plate would have stopped that 308. Granted it's going to hurt but you stand a chance of living. You come of of your test claiming that was great performance? Mind you after you have shot the plate with PISTOL rounds?!?!?! Why didn't you just shoot up your soft panels instead? That was a waste bro..

    • @civilianangle
      @civilianangle 9 місяців тому

      This is an ICW plate. ICW = In Conjunction With. You only achieve level 4 protection with soft armor behind them. I shot them to see how they would do as a stand alone plate. I used common rounds that shooters use. As a stand alone they did good for what they are, but with soft armor behind it would provide more protection. They are not true level 4 plates, and I find it annoying that safe life markets them as “Hard Rifle Plate Level IV ICW” because it’s misleading. Being that this is just a soft armor upgrade I wanted to see it on its own without backing. Maybe you missed that part?

    • @civilianangle
      @civilianangle 11 місяців тому

      I think you’d have to check the decibel rating on them. In my experience I’ve only used them for firearms. As far as the digital sound cancellation I’m also not sure if they work for long periods of time, and I think you’d burn through batteries quite a bit. The digitalis detect a certain decibel level and kill it so if that engine or turbine isn’t quite loud enough then you are gonna hear it, and the only way to mitigate that is turn the volume way down which defeats the intended purpose of the muffs or plugs.

    @civilianangle Do you know what is unfair to Fras? Everybody tested it as a stand alone plate rather than what it was meant for and that's as in conjunction with. Nobody has tested it with the accredited plate armor that makes it Level IV armor in the first place. What exactly would that Bernanke Black Magic do if if had the accredited plate to go wit it? Let alone those other pieces of ammunition that pierced it as a stand alone? How would it fair if you pair the full plate in conjunction with a smaller Fras plate in the place of the hard plate? Now that is a fair test to the Fras system sir. The same goes for this plate asxwell. Theyre all in conjunction with plates. Therefore none of the Safelife Defense plates were tested correctly. They qas misding the key component that made them level IV armor in which was the secondary armor that was to be conjoined to it to test it at the level IV armor level.

    I think Safari probably better for competition not on rough or unpredictable situations, as if you roll on floor or tripping may just deactivate the guard and gun may be drawn or taken by others. I still feel the traditional wrap around holster better, you can train yourself to live with the button or velcro buckle system, just my opinions.

    • @civilianangle
      @civilianangle Рік тому

      I see what you’re saying. In my experience with rolling around I’ve not had a problem but that’s not to say someone else won’t. In my local area all LEO’s are running safari land, and theirs are just level 2 without the poly strap mechanism. Which holster do you use specifically?

    • @flyfishing101
      @flyfishing101 Рік тому

      @@civilianangle it all comes down to how each of us being conditioned and trained. I actually use iwb most of time, but if I have to thigh holster it when I use body armor full bundle, I will use universal drop leg holster with Velcro or button activation for two reasons: you sometimes can't know what gun you will holster that day, so universal one can make it always fit; second, Velcro or button is easier to be activated from certain angle quickly, rather than Safari quick draw. Basically, what I mean is quick draw will rarely fit my needs if I have to thigh holster my handgun which is only the secondary weapon. That's why I think it's best for the competition.

    It has mosaic ceramic tile which is supposed to handle rifle rds by itself. Maybe they are thinner than other brand level IV stand alone that use mosaic tile. Plates using this are usually the lighter in weight level IV plates as opposed to monolithic ceramic plates which are definitely heavier. I have a set of RMA level IV monolithic ceramic plates and are 8.3 lbs each for the SAPI cut, swimmer’s cut is 8.0 lbs each. Heavy af! 😅 Why not use another common rifle round like 7.62 x 39? So many have AK47s

      But your plate technology will stop 308 AP and 30 06 AP rounds, along with anything of the lower calibers. That is what LvL IV plates should be able to do without question. I like the idea behind FRAS reducing weight. But we also should note that there are sub 5 LB LvL IV plates on the market using plate technology. There are also duritium plates that can weigh in at I believe 3.5 LBS. This type of plate will also have a positive buoyancy rating. However you will spend quite a bit more money for them. Even more critical is the fact that Safe Life says: "FRAS WITH YOUR IIIA+ VEST: (ICW Maximum Protection) Use this 10×12 plate in your IIIA or IIIA+ Vest plate pocket to achieve level III+ protection against threats up to .308 & 7.62x54r!" So, they sort of let you think it's a LvL IV Armor when they in fact in writing on their own website says it equivalent to LvLIII+. Again, no protection against AP (Armor Piercing) as would be the case with LvL IV plates. If you look at companies like Hesco they create ICW plate such as: 3800LV-SH-MC-L at 2.1 lbs, and 3800LV-SH-MC-S at 1.4 lbs that only need LvL IIIA panels. By comparison Safe Life tell us we need their LvL IIIa+ panels starting at "ONLY" 3.97 pounds. Note what do they mean ONLY, since FRAS is heavier when compared to ICW products from Hesco. Again Safe Life is far too misleading...

When they do their NIJ classification and testings, they are taking into account the blackface deformation that is supposed to be at a certain depth measurement and there is where the trauma pad (the soft armor nij 3a) comes into play,either embedded with the plate or as an add-on - ICW. Just because your not going to use a soft nij 3a as backer (ICW) it does not mean that you are going to get punctured ,but, for sure your going to hurt more because of the back-face (edited here for @YungBeezer,who only understood the typo fault he found) deformation that your body is going to directly be submitted to without the absorber to do its job
